No Beauty Pageant For This Year’s Fair

The Chattooga County Agricultural Fair announced on Thursday that there will be no fair beauty pageant this year, but they hope to have it back in 2024.  Fair Council member Zach Hughes said, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the 2023 Chattooga County Fair beauty pageant has been cancelled. The pageant is a great addition to the fair and we are working diligently to ensure the pageant will return in 2024. We look forward to seeing everyone at the fair”.

Man Arrested For Passing Fake $100 Bill

A fifty-one-year-old man was arrested last week for passing a fake $100 at Mountain View Grocery Store.  The store owner contacted the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office after he found that the phony money had been used to purchase $30.50 worth of cigarettes and was then given change.  The bill said “For Motion Picture Use Only” and “In Props We Trust”. Deputies spoke with the suspect, Billy Ray Hill, at a McGinnis Circle, Summerville address about the fake bill.  Hill at first tried to tell deputies that his bank gave him the phony money and then said “some girl” gave it to him.  Hill was arrested and booked into the Chattooga County Jail on charges of first degree forgery.

Missing Person In Walker County

The Walker County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s help in locating a man who was reported missing on Wednesday of this week.  According to information released, fifty-one-year-old Tony Hall was last seen at his workplace in Collegedale, Tennessee on August 2nd.  Hall left work early that day.  He is driving a blue, 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 with Georgia tag number RST8248.  Anyone with any information about the whereabouts of Tony Hall should contact Walker County Sheriff’s Detective Andy Cash at 706-670-1938 or email: acash@walkerso.com, or contact your local law enforcement.

Trion Football Reserved Seats Information

No Wings Over Northwest Georgia Air Show This Year

The Rome News Tribune reported this week that the organizers of the Wings Over Northwest Georgia Air Show have said that the show will not take place this year.  The organizers say that their decision was due to construction at Rome’s Richard B. Russell Airport.  The show, which has been ongoing since 2012, except for 2019 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, has a multi-million dollar impact on Floyd County’s economy.  The organizers say that they are working on another air show at a different venue for this year, but details were not immediately available.  They also say that the show will return to Rome next year.

Back To School In Trion Today

It is back to school today for students in the Trion City School District.  Superintendent Phil Williams told WZQZ News that traffic will be an issue this morning as parents are dropping off kids for the first day of school.  Dr. Williams said that for a time, drivers dropping off students will only be able to make a right-hand turn as they get back on to Allgood Street after dropping off or picking up students at school.  There will be a Trion Policeman on site to help direct traffic.  Drivers should slow down and use extra caution in the area if they are traveling from Trion-Teloga Road and Allgood Street into Trion in the mornings and the afternoons.

Man Claims Police Are “Running Drugs” Before Being Jailed

A man was arrested for unlawful conduct during a 911 call after he called Chattooga 911 multiple times and requested a detective, but would not give his name or location.  A Chattooga County Deputy tracked down the man who was behind a gas station on Highway 27.  The man claimed that someone at 911 had “strapped him to a chair and thrown him in jail”.  The man also told the responding deputy that police were “running drugs”.  Thirty-one-year-old Matthew Steven Webb continued to “talk nonsense”, according to a report from the sheriff’s office and was arrested and taken to the Chattooga County Jail.

MTG Town Hall Meeting

Residents of the 14th Congressional District are invited to a town hall meeting with Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene next week in Gordon County. The town hall will begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, August 8. Attendance is limited to constituents only.  Each attendee must complete the registration form. Location details will be emailed in advance of the town hall. A valid government ID matching your registration is required for entry.
