Woman Says FedEx Damaged Utility Pole

The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on Monday of this week about a utility pole that had been damaged at a woman’s house on Sturdivant Drive in Summerville.  The complainant told the responding deputy that the damage happened back in April.  She showed the deputy pictures of where a FedEx driver had backed into the pole and damaged it.  The driver attempted to straighten the pole, but the complainant said that she has been having a problem with her electricity since the accident happened.  When the complainant contacted FedEx, they referred her to their attorney.  When she contacted her home owners insurance, they said she need to have a report on file with law enforcement.

Report Of Rome Man Driving High With Child In Vehicle In Chattooga County

The Georgia State Patrol post in Rome released a report about a Rome man who was stopped in Chattooga County on June 30th and was arrested for DUI for drugs.  The man was driving with a child inside the vehicle.

Friendship Week Continues

Friendship week continues today with “Thank You Being A Friend Day” (Writing Thank You Letters to Service Workers or Others). Summerville Main Street will have a booth with cards and pens on the East Washington Streetscape at the archway and also at Trade Day during the hours of 8:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for those wishing to write Thank You Cards. Main Street will offer limited deliver cards to downtown businesses and local service workers at work.

Tax Assessment Town Hall Meeting This Evening

A town hall meeting, organized by Concerned Citizens of Chattooga County is going to be held this evening at 7 PM at the Chattooga High School Cafeteria.  Organizers had originally planned to host the meeting at the Chattooga County Civic Center, but after an overwhelming response, they moved the meeting to the larger venue.  Organizers tell WZQZ News that there will be several knowledgeable speakers at the meeting this evening.  They said that they have 300 handouts available about how to appeal the property tax assessments.  The hard-copies of the handouts will be given out on a first-come-first-serve basis.  Organizers also told WZQZ News that they have invited Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Eslberry to the meeting, but as of Monday had not received confirmation from the commissioner’s office that he would be in attendance.
