Man Arrested After Altercation With Sister

Summerville Police arrested a twenty-seven-year-old man on Friday of last week after he got into an altercation with is sister at Bittings Avenue address.  According to a report released on Monday, the complainant said that she and her brother had been arguing.  According to the victim’s statement and witness statements, the suspect was ordered to leave the house by his sister and he hit her with the door on his way out.  Children witnessed the altercation.  Police say that based on the victim’s and witness statements and the fact that there were children present at the time, they arrested Travis Eugene Bailey and charged him with disorderly conduct.

Update On Fair Armband Prices

The Chattooga County Agricultural Fair will be taking place next month and once again this year Peachtree Rides will be providing the midway.  The ride arm bands will be $25 on Thursday night and $30 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  The fair will take place Thursday, August 24, 2023 – Sunday, August 27, 2023.  Thursday night is student night and students get in the gate free.  Also, Sunday is a free admission day, sponsored by the Town of Trion.

Pelham, Harris & Nix Receive “Friend Of The Community Award” On Monday

On Monday, the City of Summerville gave Mrs. Beth Pelham,  principal of Trion Elementary School, the “Friend of the Community Award” as well as Mrs. Katee Harris, Guidance Counselor at Menlo Elementary School and Tiffany Nix, who works at the Circle K on the Lyerly Highway.   The awards are being given during Friendship Week, leading up to the Friendship Festival this weekend.

Reminder About Venue Change For Tax Assessment Appeal Town Hall Meeting

Chattooga County Concerned Citizens will be hosting a town hall, educational meeting tomorrow evening.  The venue for the event has changed.  Organizers told WZQZ News that based on the response from the public, they determined the Chattooga County Civic Center would not have adequate space for the number of people planning to attend.  Organizers approached the Chattooga Board of Education about having the meeting in the cafeteria of Chattooga High School.  The board of education voted 5-0 to allow the group to have the town hall meeting at the high school tomorrow, July 25 at 7 PM.  Those attending will learn how to properly appeal their tax assessments.  The meeting is expected to last about 2 hours.

Menlo Looks For Grant To Update Equipment

The Menlo City Council met last Thursday for their July meeting.  Council members have been discussing updating the city’s backhoe for several months.  The current backhoe is in poor shape and needs to be replaced, according to the city.  Council members have decided to apply for a Menlo-Tillotson Grant to replace the city’s backhoe with a tractor with front-end loader.  Also, the council discussed increasing sewer rates.  The rate for sewer service has not been increased in thirty years.  Also, the Menlo City Council will be having their August meeting at the new Menlo Elementary School which will be followed by a tour of the new facility.

Chattooga 4H Students Excel At Statewide Competition

Georgia 4-H Project Achievement empowers young people with skills for a lifetime. Students choose a project area of interest, research the topic, and write and present a presentation. Several Chattooga County students competed in statewide Project Achievement this past weekend.  Lane Bridges was named Master 4H-er for the second time and Izzy Wooten also achieved Master 4H-er status.  Callie Brown received second place and Carter Loughridge third place.  Lexi Lemmings and Joshua Willingham both were fourth place winners.

Woman Arrested After Trespassing At Sister’s Apartment

A twenty-six-year-old Summerville woman was arrested last week after she entered her sister’s apartment without permission, and locked her sister out of her own apartment.  Summerville Police responded to a call at the Alred Street apartment on Thursday of last week.  When they arrived, the Summerville Housing Authority unlocked the door and police found Jodeci Walker in her sister’s bed.  Police ordered her to get up and arrested her for criminal trespass.  Walker had previously received a trespass notice about being at her sister’s residence.
