June Numbers Show Unemployment Steady In Georgia

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson has announced that Georgia’s June unemployment rate remained steady at 3.2 percent, unchanged from a revised 3.2 percent in May. The unemployment rate is also four-tenths lower than the national average of 3.6 percent.

Two Municipalities Prepare For Fall Elections

Two Chattooga County municipalities are preparing for elections this fall.  The Town of Lyerly and the City of Menlo will both be holding elections for municipal offices.  Lyerly will be having an election for two seats on the town council.  In Menlo, there are two council seats and the mayor’s post on the ballot.  Qualifying for Lyerly Seats Three and Four will take place August 14th-18th. All qualifying takes place at the Lyerly Town Hall.  In Menlo, qualifying will be held for mayor and Menlo Council Seats One and Two.  Qualifying in Menlo will take place at Menlo City Hall August 21st-23rd.

Venue Change For Town Hall Meeting

Chattooga County Concerned Citizens announced on Thursday evening that they were changing the venue for the Town Hall Meeting scheduled for next Tuesday evening.  Originally, the meeting was to be held at the Chattooga County Civic Center – now it will be held at the Chattooga High School Cafeteria.

Japanese Probiotic Beverage Company Locating In NW Georgia

Governor Brian P. Kemp announced Wednesday that Yakult U.S.A., a Japanese probiotic beverage company, will build its second U.S. facility in Bartow County, creating more than 90 new jobs and investing an estimated $305 million in a new beverage production facility.

Fifth-Sunday Singing July 30th

The county-wide Fifth Sunday Singing is making a comeback.  Organizers say that the event will be held the last Sunday of this month at Chesterfield Baptist Church, located just south of Menlo on Jamestown Road.  The singing will take place on Sunday, July 30, 2023.  Chesterfield Baptist Church will be celebrating the completion of their new fellowship hall.  All churches are invited to attend and those attending are asked to bring a covered dish for the fellowship meal.  For more information, or if you would like to sing that evening, call Gail at 706-859-1832.
