A thirty-nine-year-old Walker County man was indicted by the Chattooga County Grand Jury in connection with an incident in February of this year, when he was accused of stealing three Klondike ice cream bars from the Family Dollar store in Summerville.

Summerville Police arrested a forty-seven-year-old Rome man last week after he was found sitting in a parked vehicle behind a residence on 4th Street. Police say that when they approached the vehicle and spoke with the man who was sitting in the driver’s seat, the man had slurred speech and showed signs of having consumed alcohol. After speaking with the man, he admitted to having consumed alcohol and agreed to an alcohol test. Sigmond D. White was charged with public intoxication and booked into the Chattooga County Jail.

CVS Health wants to alert the public of recent phone calls that are believed to be made by criminals who are posing as pharmacy representatives.

The Summerville City Council will hold their regular monthly meeting for the month of July this evening at Summerville City Hall at 5 PM. A coalition of community organizations recently collaborated to provide boxes of food to families and patients affected by cancer. A community partnership formed by the AdventHealth Redmond Oncology Committee, the Northwest Georgia Regional Cancer Coalition (NGRCC), Helping Hands Ending Hunger INC., Summit Quest, and the UGA Extension recently hosted a food distribution event for patients and families affected by cancer.

Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) will host a Free Application Week this week, July 11-15, to help those who are seeking to enroll in the fall semester.


The Chattooga County Garden Club is sponsoring a Basic Design Workshop Series at Paradise Gardens from July through September on select dates. It is open to anyone interested in arranging flowers for your home, church or event. Emphasis will be placed on flowers from your yard and “grocery store” bouquets. Each class will be taught by a different instructor certified by Garden Club of Georgia. Classes will begin at 10am and provide two to three hours of practice to complete designs to take home.
