Racoon Creek Bridge – One Year Into Construction

One year ago, work began on construction of a new bridge over Raccoon Creek between Summerville and Menlo.  The job was contracted out to C.W. Matthews Company who submitted the lowest bid of $4.9 million.  The Georgia Department of Transportation had estimated that the bridge would cost $5.3 million to complete.  So how long will it be before the new bridge is finished?  The project specs called for the bridge to be completed by April 30, 2024, which means commuters can expect another nine months of construction work.  According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, the project will be about 38% complete by the end of this month.  The project area is about three miles west of Summerville, on the way to Menlo, and also includes upgrading the approaches to the bridge.
