Couple Uses Woman’s Debit Card To Pay For Their Groceries

A Chattooga County deputy was called to the Dollar General Store in Gore last week after a woman said a couple had used her debit card to purchase groceries.  According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, the complainant said that she had left her buggy near the cash register and when she returned her wallet was missing.

Hit & Run Reported At Grocery Outlet

A hit and run accident was reported to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office last week.  According to a report released yesterday, a deputy responded to the Grocery Outlet on Highway 27 in Summerville at 9:40 AM on Wednesday of last week.  The complainant said that someone had hit the bumper of his vehicle, causing damage, and drove away without stopping.  The complainant could not provide the deputy with the make or model of the vehicle that struck him.  The incident was turned over to an investigator with the sheriff’s office.

Summerville Accepting Bids For Oil Changes / Mechanic Work

The City of Summerville is currently accepting bids for oil changes on city vehicles and equipment.  They are also accepting separate bids for mechanic work.  According to public notices that were posted by the city, bids will be accepted until June 12th.  The city is looking for a price per vehicle for oil changes and is looking to pay quarterly for the mechanic work.

UGA Researchers Making Progress In PFAS Study

PFAS are something that people in Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia have grown used to hearing about in the news.  PFAS were to blame for the water crisis in Summerville that shut down the city’s water treatment plant after the level of the chemicals were found to be higher than allowed in the city’s drinking water supply from Raccoon Creek.  Now, researchers from the University of Georgia are making progress into research that would provide advanced technologies to remove PFAS substance from water, wastewater and bio-solids.  The team was awarded nearly $1.6 million through a congressionally mandated grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to mitigate PFAS, which take a long time to break down and can build up in people, animals, water and soil over time. PFAS are commonly found in paper food packaging, stain-resistant and waterproof clothing and furniture, fire-repellents, and nonstick cookware.
