Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger led the successful launch of the GA WORKS Licensing Commission on Monday, May 15th. The GA WORKS licensing commission is reviewing nearly 100 years of licensing rules and regulations and implementing a 21st century regulatory framework to accommodate the rapidly changing Georgia workforce.

Trion Girls Golf Team Headed To State Championship

The Trion Lady Bulldogs golf team is headed to the GHSA State Golf Championship tournament after advancing with a qualifying spot at the area tournament that was held at Stonebridge Golf Course in Rome.  The Lady Bulldogs finished with a score of 224, qualifying for third-place.  Other area schools advancing are Heard County (second place area) with a score of 216 and Darlington (first place area) with a score of 150.  The GHSA Girls State Golf Tournament will be held at Arrowhead Point in Elbert County.  Good luck to the Lady Dogs as they head to the state championships!

Chattooga BOE Meeting Thursday

The Chattooga Board of Education will hold their May meeting coming up on Thursday of this week.  The meeting will be held at the Chattooga Education Center, located on Penn Street in Summerville and the public is invited to attend.  The meeting gets underway at 6 PM.

Rhododendron Festival This Weekend In Mentone

Mentone, Alabama’s Rhododendron Festival will be taking place this weekend on Saturday, May 20th from 10 AM until 3 PM.  The event will featured 30 artisans to display photography, oil paintings, handmade jewelry, and more. The weekend Farmer’s Market will also be part of the festivities.

Earlier this month, Walker State Prison held its first Georgia State University Prison Education Project graduation for students who completed all requirements for their Associate Degree in General Studies.
