A twenty-nine-year-old Summerville man was charged with DUI for multiple substances last Thursday. According to a report released by the Summerville Police Department on Friday, Joshua Aaron Shepherd came up to a check point being conducted by Summerville Police and Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputies on Northwest Congress Street near the intersection of Mitchell Street. Police said that Shepherd had the smell of alcohol on his breath when he rolled down the window. Shepherd admitted to consuming alcohol before the stop. Police also say that Shepherd had suspected marijuana in his possession. He was arrested and charged with DUI and booked into the Chattooga County Jail.

Floyd County Police responded to a call about a possible rabid raccoon on Clinton Drive in Rome late last week. When police arrived, they found an extremely skinny and fly infested raccoon near a small creek alive but struggling to move. The officer asked the family to return to the house before dispatching the animal humanely with a single shot. He also reported to dispatch that he was going to fire his weapon in case neighbors reported a gunshot.
