Labor Commissioner Comments On January 2023 Data

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson announced recently that Georgia’s January unemployment rate was 3.1 percent, unchanged from a revised 3.1 percent in December. Job numbers reached another all-time high, increasing by almost 17,000 from December. Georgia’s unemployment rate was three-tenths of a percent lower than the national January 2023 unemployment rate of 3.4 percent. Every year, the data used to calculate each state’s unemployment rate is reviewed and re-estimated to ensure more accurate estimates nationwide. January data is released in March.

Stolen Guns Reported In Summerville

Summerville Police are investigating the theft of a shotgun and pellet gun that was reported on Thursday of last week.  A Northwest Congress Street resident told a responding officer that a 12-gauge shotgun and a pellet gun were located in his shed a few days earlier.  The complainant said he asked someone to go to the shed and retrieve the guns for him, because he was physically unable to do so himself.  The man said a few minutes later the other man came back and said there were too many boxes on top of the guns for him to get them.  A few days later, the complainant learned that the guns were missing.  The incident was turned over to an investigator.

High Profits For Georgia Power Means A Slight Break In Your Bill

If you’re a Georgia Power customer, you will see a one-time credit on your March power bill.  That’s because Georgia Power made more money than they expected last year – $297 million more – and the state of Georgia requires the utility company to give back profits over 12%.  But at the same time Georgia Power is reporting record profits, they are going to the state’s public service commission with a request for even more money.  That’s because they say with the rising cost of fuel prices, they need a rate hike to the tune of $2 billion.  This month’s one-time credit will be somewhere between $17 and $23 for most customers.
