Former President Donald Trump won the electoral votes in Georgia on Tuesday night and was declared the winner in the hotly-contested race. Trump garnered almost 51% of the vote to Vice-President Kamala Harris. In Chattooga County, Trump was overwhelmingly the choice on the ballot for over 80% of Chattooga County voters.
Trump carried every precinct in the county but did better in some areas compared to others. The Subligna Precinct was the heaviest pro-Trump area in the county, where the former President won over 90% of the vote. However, in the county’s largest precinct of Summerville, Harris kept Trump below the county-wide average of 80%, with the Vice-President getting over 23% of the vote.
Most notably in Tuesday night’s election, U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene lagged behind the rest of the Republicans on the ticket. Democrat Shawn Harris managed to get almost 24% of the vote in the county. Subligna and Haywood were the two precincts where Greene did the best, and Summerville is where she had the least support.
All of the county-wide races were decided in the Republican Primary in May.
Chattooga High School has been named a “Math Leader” School by the Georgia Department of Education. This recognition is given to schools that have excelled in mathematics achievement or growth. The criteria for the Math Leader Awards focus on the percentage of students scoring at the Proficient Learner level or above in mathematics, emphasizing numeracy skills in fifth and eighth grades.

The Chattooga Chamber invites the community to a special Lunch & Learn event featuring local Boys & Girls Club Director Deb Stowe. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced the awarding of contracts for two significant road improvement projects in Chattooga County. This news was revealed by the state agency on Wednesday, along with bids for other portions of the state. The first project involves the resurfacing of over six-and-a-half miles on State Route 48, also known as Menlo Highway. This section of roadway extends between Summerville and Menlo, with Northwest Georgia Paving of Calhoun securing the contract as the low bidder. The total cost for this project is estimated at just over $4.25 million. The second project focuses on the repaving and shoulder rehabilitation of 4.3 miles of U.S. 27, beginning north of Gore-Subligna Road and extending south of the Chattooga River. The contract for this work has been awarded to C.W. Matthews Contracting of Marietta, who was also the low bidder, with a project cost of $2.96 million. Both projects are set to commence in the near future, with an estimated completion date of August 31, 2025.
Friends, family, and the community celebrated the graduation of 25 students from the Basic POST Certification Class at Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s Gordon County Campus. This program trains graduates to become entry-level police officers certified by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council. The ceremony featured guest speaker Catoosa County Sheriff Gary Sisk, who encouraged the graduates to strive for excellence and be agents of positive change in their communities. The program director highlighted the class’s record size, while students received awards for marksmanship and academic achievement. Graduates pledged to uphold their oath of honor, promising to uphold their integrity, responsibilities, and the law.
