Here is the latest arrest report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office for Monday, August 19, 2024:
A deputy was killed while responding to a domestic dispute in Northwest Georgia on Saturday evening. This is the first time the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office has lost a deputy in the line of duty, Maj. Ashley Henson said in a news briefing Saturday.
Summerville Police were called to a West First Street address this past week in reference to a theft. The responding officer met with the complainant who said that someone had thrown a rock through the window of her daughter’s car overnight and stolen items from the back seat. The stolen items included a Northface backpack containing school work, Apple Airpods and a Vera Bradley lunch box. The driver’s side window on the vehicle was shattered and a rock was found in the floorboard.
Lyerly Elementary School PTO will meet on Wednesday, August 28th in the Lyerly School Cafeteria at 4:15 PM. The meeting will be an opportunity for parents to connect, stay informed, and get involved in their children’s education. Also, the meeting will provide a platform for parents to hear updates on news and upcoming events at Lyerly School. Those who attend may voice their opinions on activities supported by the Lyerly Parent Teacher Organization and help make a positive impact on the students and the Lyerly Community. Residents of Chattooga, Gordon, Walker and Floyd Counties in Georgia and from DeKalb and Cherokee Counties in Alabama are encouraged to enter items for blue ribbon judging starting today.
Oak Hill & the Martha Berry Museum will once again host its Senior Scholars program, a series of courses for adults aged 55 and up, beginning the week of Sept. 16 and running throughout the fall.
Walker County Government and Thrive Regional Partnership will host another community engagement session on digital connectivity at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 26th at the Walker County Civic Center. The purpose of this session will be to gather input from residents about the first draft of the county’s Digital Connectivity Plan, which will be released soon.
Trion School Supt. Dr. Phil Williams is looking to build a covered walkway for high school students who must go from the main building to the gym. Dr. Williams says that with students having to switch buildings during the school day, there is a need for a covered passage between the two buildings.
The State Transportation Board (STB) of Georgia elected its new executive leadership team at its monthly board meeting on Thursday, August 15 held at Georgia DOT headquarters in Atlanta. Ann R. Purcell was named chairwoman; Jamie Boswell was named vice chairman; and Dennis McEntire was named secretary.
Trion defeated arch-rival Gordon Lee in a game Saturday night after a delay in the opening of high school football season for both teams due to stormy weather on Friday night. The teams rivalry is the longest running in Georgia’s high school football history. The Trojans were no match for the Bulldogs. Trion was leading 13-6 at halftime and shutout Gordon Lee in the second half for a final score of 30-6. Trion has won the game the last four consecutive contests. The Bulldogs will be on the road this week as they take on Dade County on Friday.
