Trion Mayor Lanny Thomas says that the Trion Town Council will have a called meeting this Thursday, August 15th. Georgia gas prices dropped at the pumps compared to a week ago. Georgians are paying an average price of $3.23 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average was 5 cents less than a week ago,16 cents less than a month ago, and 41 cents less than this time last year. It costs drivers an average price of $48.45 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline. Georgians are paying almost $3.00 less to fill up at the pump compared to a month ago.
The Summerville City Council held their monthly meeting for August on Monday evening and named former Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters as the finalist for the city manager position. Winters was one of three finalists for the position. Current City Manager Andrea Surratt had served as city manager for eighteen months when she announced her resignation in May of this year. In other action, the Summerville City Council turned down a proposal that would have allowed Mayor Harry Harvey to begin the process of implementing a city property tax. When the Summerville City Council meets this evening for their regular monthly meeting, one of the items on the agenda is a resolution by the city council to “authorize the mayor to sign a resolution to begin the process of implementing a city property tax”. One city councilman is expressing his opposition to the measure and is encouraging the public to let their voice be heard if they are against a city property tax.
On July 7, 2024, at about 3:30 a.m., the GBI was requested by the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office to assist with an investigation into a shooting that occurred at a large venue rented as an Airbnb in Fairmount, Georgia. The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office received calls about the event and complaints about loud music. When deputies arrived, they discovered a man who had been shot and injured.
