The runoff election will be held tomorrow and Chattooga County voters will go to the polls to decide who the next county coroner will be.  Those voting on the Republican ticket will choose between Jeremy “Big Mac” McElhaney and Savanna McGill. The winner of that race will replace retiring Democratic Coroner Earl Rainwater.   Also, voters in the city limits of Summerville may vote in a runoff race between Simone Adams and Pam Albert for Seat One on the Summerville City Council.  Voting will take place in local precincts in the county runoff election and at Summerville City Hall for the city runoff election.

Registration is underway for the Trion Football Youth Camp for children ages 5-13.  The camp will be held July 17th, 18th and 19th from 6 PM until 7:30 PM at Sam R. McCain Stadium in Trion.  The cost is $30 per camper and a T-shirt is included.  Payment and registration may be done in advance, or the day of the camp at the stadium.  The camp will include skills, drills and instruction from Trion coaches and players.  You may register HERE

The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) Commissioner Tyrone Oliver announced the promotion of Jackson DeFore to Assistant Commissioner for Administration and Finance, effective June 16, 2024. In this role, DeFore will be responsible for overseeing all functions under the administration unit to include human resources, grants management, fleet management and the call center. Additionally, he will supervise all functions under the finance unit to include budget services, business management, business processes, financial services, fiscal audits and purchasing for the agency.

WHAT: Weather permitting, crews on Monday will close the US 411 bridge from Rome heading toward Cartersville. The bridge will be closed for about two weeks while it is repaired.

WHEN: Beginning on June 17 for about two weeks, weather permitting

DETOUR: Vehicles traveling from Rome toward Cartersville will take US 27 to US 411 toward Cedartown/Gadsden then turn on to Darlington Drive Southwest to return to US 411 toward Cartersville.

Summerville residents will be going to the polls to vote in a runoff election for Summerville City Council Seat One.  Simone Adams and Pam Albert are running to fill the unexpired term of former Councilman David Ford who passed away earlier this year.
