The man wanted in connection with a shooting incident Saturday night in Cherokee County, Alabama is now in custody.
The City of Summerville is seeking bids for the fireworks display for the annual Celebrate Independence event. The council voted at their last meeting to hold the celebration on Wednesday, July 3rd. The event will take place at the Chattooga County Ag Building off Highway 100 in Summerville. The fireworks display is the culmination of a variety of family-friendly events each year and the event is free to the public.
More U.S. counties experienced population gains than losses in 2023, as counties in the South saw faster growth and more Northeast and Midwest counties had population losses turn to gains, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s Vintage 2023 estimates of population and components of change released last week.
A Summerville man reported a case of possible fraud on Wednesday. According to a report from the police department, the complainant said that he had ordered a 6.7 Power Stroke engine from a place called King’s Automotive. The complainant advised that he spoke with a woman named “April Ross” at the company who took his payment of $7,758. The transaction took place on February 20th. The company advised to allow 10 days for shipping. The complainant showed the responding officer an invoice showing that the engine had been paid for but the engine still had not shown up and when he attempted to call King’s Automotive – the number had been disconnected. The incident was turned over to an investigator with the Summerville Police Department.

State Rep. Eddie Lumsden has released his weekly legislative report for last week – the tenth week of the 2024 General Assembly legislative session. The House has been considering pending Senate Bills dealing with a variety of issues including the issue of “swatting” that has plagued public officials in Georgia when emergency services are called to their private residence by pranksters. Also the House is considering a senate bill dealing with safeguarding children from sexual violence and protecting victims from human trafficking.
