The Chattooga County Registrars Office has issued 75 Absentee by Mail ballots, accepted 33 Absentee by Mail ballots, and had 744 cast a ballot during Advance Voting for the March 12, 2024 Presidential Preference Primary. They have not had any provisional ballots.  According to numbers released by the Registrars Office, advance voting is up this year compared to the last two election cycles.  So far, 406 people have cast their ballots; that compares to 211 in 2020 and 235 in 2016, after two weeks of early voting.  This is the last week of early voting.  Voting will be taking place from 8:30 AM until 5 PM through Friday at the Chattooga County Registrars Office, located at 10017 Commerce Street in Summerville.

Chattooga County Election Superintendent and Probate Judge Gary Woods is reminding potential candidates that qualifying is taking place this week for local offices.  Voters will be choosing candidates for sole commissioner, sheriff, tax commissioner, magistrate judge, probate judge, clerk of superior court, coroner, and two school board seats on the Chattooga Board of Education.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency are hosting the Boating Basics Course.

The class will be held on Saturday March 9, 2024 at 8:00 a.m.

Class will be at the Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency which is located inside the Cherokee County Administration Building located at 260 Cedar Bluff Road in Centre.

This class is designed for ages 12 and up. Children under the age of 12 are not eligible to take the exam. Anyone under the age of 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult 18 years of age or older. This class is being offered free of charge.

You will need to bring a notepad and something to write with. Please make sure you have your driver’s license with you or your social security number if you don’t have a driver’s license. If you just need a refresher you can attend one of these courses as well.

Georgia’s Republican leadership in the State Senate have pushed through a sports betting referendum despite calls from the state’s largest religious denomination’s objections.  Leaders of the Georgia Baptist Convention are disappointed with the Republican-backed plan that will allow voters to decide if the state should allow an expansion of gambling in the state.
