Ronald Stephen “Butch” Camp, Obit (M)

Mr. Ronald Stephen “Butch” Camp, age 76, departed this life on Monday, June 9, 2025, at his home in Menlo, Georgia. Butch resided in Menlo off of Peach Orchard Road with his wife, Alisa Camp. Butch was Baptist by faith and was a true disciple of Jesus Christ. He was kind, caring, and always willing to help anyone in need. Butch’s personality was larger than life. He was a gentle soul that always filled every room with laughter, and he uplifted those around him.

Butch was born July 5, 1948, in Trion, Georgia. He is the son of the late Elbert T. “Muley” Camp and Dorothy “Dot” LeCroy Camp. Butch worked hard his entire life providing for his family. He worked most of his adult life at Reichhold Chemicals and continued working in retirement, managing a lawn care business for many people, churches and businesses.

Butch is survived by his wife, Alisa Camp, daughter and son in law, Erica and Don Thompson, step-sons, Patrick Camp and Jason Thomas, step-daughter, Felecia Floyd, his sister, Susan Strickland and nephew, Darren Strickland, five grandchildren, several other nieces and nephews, and a multitude of personal friends that Butch connected with over his lifetime.

There will be a memorial gathering of family and friends at Mason Funeral Home from 12:00 noon until 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 21, 2025

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Christopher Dewayne “D.J.” Chapman Obit

Mr. Christopher Dewayne “D.J.” Chapman, age 27, of Cedar Bluff, AL, died Friday, June 6, 2025.

Mr. Chapman was born June 11, 1997, in Alabaster, AL, son of Dewayne Chapman and Debra Jean Sparman Cruz.  He was employed with Northwest Georgia Paving.

Mr. Chapman was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lorene Dupree, Robert Mosteller, Debbie and Jerry Sparman.

Survivors include his wife, Alexis Sluder Chapman; parents, Dewayne and Stephanie Chapman; son, Tyson Chapman; daughter, LaVada Chapman; brothers, Tucker (Baylee) Terry, JaCameron Chapman, Joshua Chapman; sisters, Brooke Sparman and Aneetra Harris.

Funeral services for Mr. Chapman will be held at 3:00 P.M. (Eastern Time) Friday, June 13, 2025, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Warren officiating.  Interment will follow in Weiss Lake Memorial Gardens.  Pallbearers will be Tucker Terry, JaCameron Chapman, Jordan McElroy, Kurtis McDaniel, D’Andre Autry, and Carson Keen.

Mr. Chapman will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. (Eastern Time) until the hour of service on Friday.

Mr. James Wiley Keen, Obit (ER)

MR. JAMES WILEY KEEN, age 73, of Cedar Bluff, Alabama, formerly of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday morning, June 10, 2025, in a Decatur health care. A native of Trion, Georgia, He was born on October 21, 1951; a Son of the late Herbert Greeson and Myrtle Bell Simmons Keen. Mr. Keen was a member of Beersheba Presbyterian Church, prior to retirement was Supervisor of the Dye Plant for Shaw Industries, and a Veteran of Viet Nam serving in the U. S. Army.

Surviving are His wife, Kathy Keen; sons, James Christopher Keen and Brick Wiley Keen; sisters, Ortha Ward and Lois Smith; brother, Charles Keen; grandchildren, Cody Keen, Ramsie Keen Wright, Carly Keen Wigley, Chandler Keen, Lily Raine Keen, Amber McGraw, Autumn Burdick, Meg Helms, and Ashle Bruce; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 12th, at 2:00 P.M. from the Beersheba Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jennifer Walker officiating, interment in Macedonia Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Cody Keen, Chandler Keen, Jared Wigley, Braden Johnson, Chais Helms, and Laramie Wright. The Family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 P.M. from the Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.

Mrs. Katy M. Arden James, Obit (C)

Mrs. Katy M. Arden James, age 73 of Trion, Georgia, passed away Monday, June 9, 2025 at her residence.

Kathy was born in Trion, Georgia on September 20, 1951, daughter of the late Louie B. Arden and Hildred Marie Knight Arden.  She was retired from Walmart, where she was a claims associate.  She enjoyed being outside and gardening and taking care of her flowers.  In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Dereck McCoy.

Kathy is survived by her husband, William Steven James; and a number of cousins and extended family members.

Graveside and Interment services for Kathy will be held Thursday, June 12, 2025 in the Green Hills Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will include Steve James, Jody James and Gerald James.

Kathy’s family will receive friends at the Coffman Funeral Home Thursday from 12:00 Noon until 1:30 P.M.

Sylvia Ann Porter Vaughan, Obit (M)

Ms. Sylvia Ann Porter Vaughan age 78 of Trion, GA passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at a local hospital.

Mrs. Vaughan was born November 15, 1946 in Portsmouth, VA to the late Elvin and Doris Thomas Porter and she was retired from the Bertie Correctional Institute. She was a devoted Christian and member of Midway Baptist Church where she served as church pianist for over 70 years.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her grandson, Chase Keener; and brothers, Buddy Porter and Fred Porter.

Survivors include her sons, John (Cheri) Jett and Joseph Reid; sister, Sara Wright; 5 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be planned for Ms. Vaughan by the family at a later date.

Beverly Fowler Sumner, Obit (C)

Beverly Fowler Sumner age 58, of Louisville, KY formerly of Summerville, GA. passed away on Friday, May 30 at The University of Louisville Hospital, Mary and Elizabeth.

Beverly was born on July 24, 1966 in Anniston, Alabama, daughter of the late  Alex Fowler and Carol Ann Mitchell Fowler.  She graduated from Chattooga High School in 1983 and later attended Georgia Northwestern Technical college pursuing a degree in Computer Science. Beverly worked at Roper Corporation for a number of years and was known for her love of music, reading, and learning.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Jimmy Fowler.

She is survived by her daughters, Charis (Jordan) Baird, and Caitlan Sumner; a grandson, John Luke Baird; a sister, Selena (Tim) Wester; nieces and nephews, Samantha, JT, DJ, and Micah; numerous Aunts and Uncles; and her beloved cocker spaniel, Tyra.

A memorial gathering of friends will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025 from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 P.M. at the Coffman Funeral Home, Summerville GA.

Judge Jerry Westbrook, Obit (ER)

JUDGE JERRY WESTBROOK, prominent Chattooga County Attorney and Judge, passed away Saturday afternoon in a Rome hospital following an illness. Judge Westbrook was born in Trion, Georgia on June 22, 1938, a son of the late Wilmer Carlyle and Dorothy M. Colbert Westbrook. He was Chattooga County Juvenile Judge for forty nine plus years and a Master Wood Crafter. In addition to Parents, He was preceded in death by brothers, Charles David Westbrook and Donald Carlyle Westbrook.

Surviving are His wife, Judy Westbrook; sons, Parks Westbrook (Taner Ergin) and Jud Westbrook; grandchildren Trey Westbrook and Madelyn Westbrook.

Graveside and interment service will be held Thursday, June 5th, at 4:30 P.M. from West Hill Cemetery with Parks Westbrook and Albert Palmer officiating. Active Pallbearers, Kenneth Underwood, Tracy Maddux, Lanny Harrelson, Maxey Colbert, Tommy Taylor, and David Tomlin; Honorary Pallbearers, Jeff Ingram, Rip Keef, Tommy Keef, Clint Woodall, Walt Woodall, and Ralph Tomlin. Alice Elaine Dotson, Obit (M)

Mrs. Alice Elaine Dotson, age 79, of Summerville, GA, died Saturday, May 24, 2025, at her son’s residence in Trion, GA.

Mrs. Dotson was born September 7, 1945, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late Everett William James and Dovie Mae Lipham James. Prior to her retirement, she was employed with Roper Corporation. Mrs. Dotson loved her family and always treated everyone else’s children as if they were her own. Nothing pleased her more than planning and hosting family get-togethers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Tim Dotson; and her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Chapman.

Survivors include her sons, Jimmy (Debbie) Tapp; Darian (Anna) Dotson; a brother, Everett (Gail) James; sister, Hattie Foster; and grandson, Jared William (Heather) Tapp.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dotson will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, May 31, 2025, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sanford DeBerry officiating. Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Billy James, Brad James, Andy James, Chuck Noles, Timothy Brooks, Thomas Brooks, Jonathan Durham, and Brook Morgan. Honorary pallbearers will be the Staff of Tapestry Hospice, especially her nurse, Emily, and her C.N.A., Gabby.

Matthew Wayne Reynolds, Obit (M)

Mr. Matthew Wayne Reynolds, age 51, of Cedar Bluff, AL, died Friday, May 23, 2025, at Atrium Health Floyd Cherokee.

Mr. Reynolds was born March 4, 1974, in Atlanta, GA, son of the late Jimmy T. Harris and Charlotte Faye Smith Wallace. He was of the Pentecostal faith, and prior to his illness, was employed as a foreman with Century Fire Protection.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Frankie Lynn Reynolds.

Survivors include his wife, Tabitha Reynolds; sons, Jared Reynolds, Austin Christensen; daughters, Abby Bryant, Breanna (Jacob) Huff, and Adriana (C.J.) Christensen; a brother, Jason Delk; sisters, Martha Jean (Mark) Foley, and Beth Hamby; and grandchildren, Kinley Huff, Jake Huff, Raelynn Huff, and Malakai Lomnick.

Funeral services for Mr. Reynolds will be held at 1:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leon Craig officiating.

Mrs. Louise Mitchell Fuller, age 85, of Summerville, GA, died Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Mrs. Fuller was born January 23, 1940, in Centre, AL, daughter of the late Elbert and Dorene Love Mitchell. Prior to her retirement, she was employed with Bigelow-Sanford as well as C.V.S. Mrs. Fuller was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and volunteered with various activities assisting the Shriners.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Harold Fuller; and a brother, Marion Mitchell.

Survivors include her son, Larry Fuller; a sister, Jean Watwood; 3 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Fuller will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.

There will be no formal funeral service.
