Pluma Alice Orr, Obit (ER)

MRS. PLUMA ALICE ORR, age 83, formerly of Summervile, Georgia, passed away Wednesday morning, December 11, 2024, in a Rome, Georgia assisted living. She was born in Trion, Georgia on July 12, 1941, a daughter of the late Hubbard and Myrtle Simmons Keen. She was a member of the Pennville First Baptist Church and retired from the Training Department of Mount Vernon Mills. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late James Eugene Orr, and siblings Nellie Woods and Melvin Keen died earlier.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Camille Orr; grandchildren, Alex Orr, Adam Orr, and Emma Orr; sister, Ortha Ward and Lois Smith; brothers, James Keen and Charles Keen; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral service will be Saturday at 12 noon from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Colbert officiating. The Family will receive visitors Saturday from 11 A.M. until 12 noon at the Funeral Home.

Sherry Gail Peters, Obit (C)

Mrs. Sherry Gail Peters, age 68 of Trion, Georgia passed away Thursday, December 12, 2024 in her home after a prolonged battle with cancer.

Mrs. Peters was born at the Trion Hospital on June 6, 1956, daughter of the late Riley Joel Adams and Mildred Louise Bailey Adams. She was the former owner of Sherry’s Conoco and was currently employed as a cashier with United Grocery Outlet. Mrs. Peters enjoyed playing Rook with her daughters, reading, playing online poker with worldwide friends, watching her grandsons play sports, and going to Trade Day and yard sales. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Peters was preceded in death brothers-in-law, Harold Crider, Donald McCord and Larry Peters; and sisters-in-law, Beverly Daniels and Joyce Coller.

Mrs. Peters is survived by her husband of 50 years, Lonnie Peters; daughters, Crystal (Brent) Brady, Misty (Josh) McCullough and Starr (Caitlyn) Peters; grandchildren, Logan McCullough, Lonnie McCullough, Lucas McCullough, and Masen Brady; sisters, Judy Crider and Jean McCord; special niece, Teresa Bishop; nephews, Jeremy McCord and Shane McCord; and a number of additional family members and friends.

Mrs. Peters’ family will receive friends Friday afternoon from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., after which she will be cremated according to her wishes.

Reba Evelyn Gill, Obit (M)

Mrs. Reba Evelyn Gill, age 77, of Summerville, GA, died Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Oakview Health and Rehabilitation.

Mrs. Gill was born December 3, 1947, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late Thomas Watson Garner and Edith Cordelia Gentry Garner. She was a member of Chelsea Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed as a lunchroom manager with the Chattooga County School System.

Mrs. Gill loved her family and was a very strong woman who lived what she believed. She served as Church Treasurer, a job that she took over from her mother. She enjoyed sewing and cooking and was famous for her homemade biscuits.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, James Robert Gill; brothers, Russell Garner, William (Jean) Garner.

Survivors include her sons, Russell (Charlotte) Gill; Thomas Gill (and special friend, Serena Bristol); a daughter, Rebecca (Jason) Tucker; grandchildren, Arielle and Chris Walsh, Zachary Gill, and Alex and Chase Hall; and great-grandchild, Brantley Ford Walsh.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 13, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Garrett Cemetery. Mr. Marty Lynn Hogue, age 61, of Menlo, GA, died Sunday, December 8, 2024, at his residence.

Mr. Hogue was born May 2, 1963, in Trion, GA, son of the late Paul and Parlie Bryant Hogue. He was a member of Faith Temple Baptist Church and was employed with Shaw Industries. Mr. Hogue was an avid fisherman and loved doing yardwork. He was also a very kind, caring, and excellent role model.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lisa Elaine Burrage Hogue; grandparents, Girtis and Erbie Bryant; and a brother-in-law, Mike Ball.

Survivors include his sons, Marcus (Brittany) Hogue, Skylar Hogue; daughters, Brandi Hogue and Halley Hogue; brother, Donald Hogue; sister, Sherrie Ball; and 4 grandchildren.

Mr. William Raymond Giles, age 76, of Summerville, GA, died Friday, December 6, 2024, at his residence.

Mr. Giles was born February 29, 1948, in New London, CT, son of the late Willie Ray Giles and Mary Magdalena Kazimer Giles. He was of the Baptist faith, and prior to his retirement, was employed as an engineer with Windstream Communications. He was also a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the Summerville/Trion Rotary Club and of Northwest Georgia Quail Unlimited.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Giles was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Edward Giles.

Survivors include his wife, Marcia Lacy Giles; a son, Michael Giles; brother, Paul John Giles; and grandchildren, Madison (Carson) DeLoach, and Easton Owens.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 9, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Evans and Mr. Bobby Chisolm officiating. Carolyn Maxwell, of Omaha, Nebraska, gained her angel wings November 29, 2024 surrounded by family.

Carolyn was an angel here on earth and a true warrior to God. Her selfless heart was always full of love and compassion for all who came into her life. She was always there for others even if only to listen. Family and togetherness she held dear to her heart. Carolyn has instilled all these values into her children and into the lives of others.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents: Robert Sneed Chaney, Jr. and Jimmie Clementine Chaney; brothers: Herbert and Ronald Chaney; sisters: Shirley Canatsy and Susan Rice.

She is survived by her husband: Charles Maxwell; daughters: Pamela Maxwell, Melissa Volentine, Rita Nelson (husband: Tim), and Tina Maxwell; grandchildren: Charles Vitols, Carissa Volentine, Courtney Volentine, Wyatt Nelson, and Kinsley Nelson; great-grandchildren: Hudson, Mackenzie, and Dakota Graff; sister: Ileeta Scolaro.

MR. GERONE “LADELLE” EVANS – 58, Georgia was born May 13, 1966 in Summerville, Georgia to Everett Evans and the late Carolyn Printup. He departed this earthly life for his heavenly home on November 27, 2024. He is preceded in death by his mother; brother, Patrick Evans Sr., Step-Father, Homer Printup, grandparents, Henley and Beatrice Hull and John L. and Lelia Evans; Uncles, Alvin Evans and Lenton “O Neal” Evans.

“Dell” as he was lovely called, was educated in the Chattooga County School System and graduated from Chattooga High School in 1985. He was employed by Roper Manufacturing. Dell was an avid horse lover and was known in the community as the “horseshoe man”. His love for horses brought him many relationships and bonds with others that ride horses. His animal IQ was extraordinary, and he was always willing to share his knowledge and help others.

Charles David Lowry, Obit (M)

Mr. Charles David Lowry, age 73, of Shepherdsville, KY, formerly of Trion, GA, returned to the Lord on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at his home. He was born on February 20, 1951, to the late Herman and Robbie Cook Lowry in Trion, GA.

Mr. Lowry was a retired employee of General Electric Company, a proud U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, a member of the VFW, and the Church of Christ. He enjoyed golf, fishing, and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and his dog, Buddy. He was very outgoing and generous to a fault.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Danny and Terry Lowry; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Earl H. and Ruby Tinney.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Lowry; one daughter, Whitnie (James) Hart; two brothers, Gary and Stephen Lowry; two grandchildren, Cooper Payton and Bella Hart; aunt, Glynelle Rowland; uncle, Gene Henderson; two nieces, Rebecca Hammonds and Tereasa Lowry; four nephews, Andrew, Jay, and Jon Lowry, and Mike Arnold, along with a host of great nieces and nephews.

Dr. Douglas Earl Caron, Obit (C)

Dr. Douglas Earl Caron, age 77 of Cave Spring, Georgia, formerly of Trion, passed away Friday, November 22, 2024 at his residence.

Dr. Caron was born in Anniston, Alabama on May 17, 1947, son of the late George Caron and Charlotte Hughes Caron. He had a successful career practicing medicine in several locations throughout Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee and owned the Caron Medical Center and Clinic in Summerville. Dr. Caron was a graduate of Emory University, where he earned his B.A. in 1969; The Medical College of Georgia, graduating in 1997; and East Tennessee University, while he served his residency at CHI Memorial in Chattanooga from 1997-2000. Dr. Caron was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a Military Policeman and earning the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service in 1971. Among his many interests, he enjoyed cooking, traveling, studying, listening to classical music, and spending time with his kids, grandkids and friend, Patti.

In addition to his parents, Dr. Caron was preceded in death by a daughter, Leslie Anne Caron; brothers-in-law, Shag Worley and Johnny “Fuzz” Parker; his grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

Dr. Caron is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Corey Caron, Craig and Theresa Caron and Christopher and Marie Waldrop; daughter and son-in-law, Carrie and Cole Cooper; sisters, Nancy Worley and Cheryl Parker; dear friend, Patricia Simmons; 6 grandchildren, Jack Cooper, Crew Cooper, Jude Cooper, Max Caron, Charlotte Caron and Connor Caron; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Jonathan Odell “Jon” Mitchell, Obit (M)

Mr. Jonathan Odell “Jon” Mitchell, age 51, of Summerville, GA, died Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.

Mr. Mitchell was born November 30, 1973, in Rome, GA, son of Peggy Ann Latta Mitchell and the late James Shamblin “Jimmy” Mitchell, Jr. He was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church and had been employed as a commercial water meter specialist.

Mr. Mitchell dedicated his life to coaching youth sports, sharing his passion for baseball, softball, and football with countless athletes. He also loved spending time on the golf course, playing tennis and volleyball, and enjoying friendly games of cornhole with his family and friends. He spent most of his time on the ball field watching and coaching his kids and grandkids play ball.

He will, no doubt, be front row at every event his youngest son, Will, has, cheering him on from above with the same enthusiasm and love he always showed.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James “Jim” and Clara White Mitchell; maternal grandparents, Herman and Debbie Latta; uncle, Kenny Mitchell, father-in-law, Donald McNeese; brother-in-law, Brad Johnson; and sister-in-law, Teresa Busbin.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry Elrod Mitchell; sons, Collin (Autumn) Cooper, William Mitchell; daughters, Allie Mitchell, Haedyn (Zac) Mobbs; mother, Peggy Mitchell; brothers, Jamie (Tammy) Mitchell, Jason (Misty) Mitchell; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Cleta Farrow, Becky Elrod, Nathaniel (Tammy) McNeese; mother-in-law, Betty McNeese; and grandchildren, Zion Mobbs, Ella Mobbs, and Torin Mobbs.
