Mrs. Mary Lou Schrader, age 79, of Menlo, GA, died Friday, December 27, 2024, at Atrium Health Floyd-Chattooga.

Mrs. Schrader was born May 4, 1945, in LaFayette, GA, daughter of the late Charles W. Smith and Velma L. Mann Smith. She was a member of Chelsea Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Bigelow-Sanford. Mrs. Schrader enjoyed quilting, sewing, and reading. She loved spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids, visiting with others, and spending time at the beach.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Schrader was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Schrader; a brother, Ronald Smith; and sister, Susie Ballinger.

Survivors include her sons, Michael (Starla) Schrader, Timothy Schrader; daughter, Charlotte (Rusty) Gill; brothers, Walter Smith, Bobby (Rhonda) Smith; sisters, Ruth Barrett, Mamie (Rick) Abernathy; 6 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 31, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Smith officiating. Interment will follow in New Home Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Zachary Gill, Mason Schrader, Chris Walsh, Glenn Ballinger, Greg Barrett, and Mark Schrader.

Mrs. Schrader will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service on Tuesday.

Milton “Joey” Griffin, Obit (M)

Mr. Milton “Joey” Griffin age 54 of Chatsworth, GA passed away Thursday, December 26, 2024 at a Rome hospital.

Mr. Griffin was born August 23, 1970 in Rome, GA to Milton and Sarah Cavin Griffin. He enjoyed fishing and drawing.

He is preceded in death by his father, Milton Griffin; and siblings, Myron Griffin and Rachel Griffin.

Survivors include his loving mother, Sarah Griffin: sons, Matthew Griffin and Jeremy Griffin; sister, Samantha Shoemaker; and grandchildren, Easton Griffin and Penelope Griffin.

Graveside and interment services to celebrate the life of Mr. Griffin will take place at 12:00 noon Monday, December 30 at AMI Cemetery with Chaplain Kevin J. Norton officiating. Pallbearers will be Daniel Griffin, CJ Shoemaker, Derek Griffin, Matthew Griffin, Blake Griffin, and Landon Griffin.

Mrs. Linda Sharon Womack Bryan, age 64 of Lyerly, GA passed away Thursday, December 19, 2024 at her residence.

Mrs. Bryan was born April 2, 1960 in Summerville, GA to the late Eugene and Agnes Elrod Womack. She worked as a certified nursing assistant. She enjoyed spending time with her family, taking care of people, going on trips to the Smokey Mountains, fishing, riding four wheelers, riding on country back roads, sitting around a fire, listening to music, and being the boss.

In addition to parents, Mrs. Bryan was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Hines; sisters, Cindy Stancil and Joyce Cleveland; sister-in-law, Dale Bryan; mother-in-law, Shirley Bryan; and a grandson, Aaron Hines.

Survivors include her husband, Alvin Bryan; sons, Kenneth (Julia) Hines, Michael Wooten; a daughter, Lawanda M. Brown; brother, John (Christy) Mize; sister, Tina Steele; sisters-in-law, Darlene (Russell) Cosper, Mary Bryan (Rex) Jones; grandchildren, Darrion Sims (Victoria Lopez), Celina Norton, Brianna Hines, Shayanna Edwards, Sierra Edwards, Skyler Hines, and Luna Faye Wooten; great-grandchildren, Jaxton Hines, Asher Gillis, and Scarlett Brown Edwards.

Donald Lee Purdy, Obit (M)

Mr. Donald Lee Purdy, age 75, of Trion, GA, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Mr. Purdy was born June 25, 1949, in Rome, GA, son of the late Willie W. “Bill” Purdy and Edna Cagle Purdy. He excelled in high school and college football where he played at Gordon Military College He was Baptist by faith and was retired from the pulpwood industry where he had many friends in the logging business. After his retirement, he was employed with Purdy Electric.

Mr. Purdy loved to quail hunt and fish. He was also an avid Georgia Bulldogs Football fan. He worked hard all his life and loved his family. He especially loved spoiling his grandchildren and was very proud of all their accomplishments.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Purdy was preceded in death by a niece, Sherri Purdy Nix.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Caylor Purdy; sons, Brent (Cathy) Purdy, Sly (Lela) Purdy; daughters, Trena Purdy, Dixie (Lane) Warren; brothers, Jerry (Martha) Purdy, Bobby (Elaine) Purdy; a sister, JoAnn (Tommy) Eads; grandchildren, Hudson Purdy, Griffin Purdy, Lyla Warren, Laikyn Purdy, and Nate Purdy; and several nieces and nephews.

MRS. GLENDA “BLONDIE” CLARK, age 58, of Martin Dairy Road, Summerville, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly Monday, December 23, 2024, in a local health care facility. Mrs. Clark was born in LaFayette, Georgia on September 22, 1966 to the late Conal Jefferson and Shirley Thompson George. She was a member of United by Faith Church and was a Homemaker. In addition to Parents, She was preceded in death by a grandson, the late Camron Clark, and a brother, the late Steve George.

Surviving are Her husband, Allen Clark; daughter, Heather Leann Clark (Kyle); sons, Allen Dewayn Clark, Timothy Allen (Nicole) Clark, Jonathan Michael (Tina) Clark, and Nathan Daniel (Melissa) Clark; sisters, Linda Clark, Annette Pritchett, and Heather Boyd; brother Jeff George; grandchildren, Nasiah McVay, Hunter Clark, Brantley Clark, Elijah Gordon, Harper Gordon, Camron Driver, Donovan Warren, Layla Mae Clark, Braxton Clark, Brice Major, Leland Rose, and Debbie Rose; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Mrs. Winifred Scoggins, age 105, of Trion, GA, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Oakview Health and Rehabilitation.

Mrs. Scoggins was born May 9, 1919, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late Gordon William Chandler, Sr. and Grace Buckalew Chandler. She was the last charter member of the Trion Church of God of Prophecy, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Sewing Circle Fabrics in Trion as well as in the family business at Chandler Fabrics

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Doyle “J.D.” Scoggins; a daughter, Peggy Lavon Scoggins Richardson; and by her siblings, G.W. Chandler, Jr., Flavis Chandler, Daughtery Chandler, Violet Chandler Parker, Arah Chandler Bruce, Johnny Chandler, Dearwood Chandler, and Carolyn Chandler.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Robin R. (Dave) Wooten, Van Alan Richardson; great-grandchildren, Briana Chandler (Michael) Moore, Jennifer (Mark) Kellogg, and Edward Wooten; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, and 1 great-great-great-niece.

Sammy Franklin Brown, Obit (C)

Mr. Sammy Franklin Brown, age 83 of Trion, Georgia passed away Sunday, December 22, 2024 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Brown was born in Summerville, Georgia on October 23, 1941, son of the late Judson Brown and Hester Stancil Brown. He was a member of the Teloga Baptist Church and was retired from John D. Stephenson Company, where he was employed as a heavy duty mechanic. Mr. Brown was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed working on cars, lawnmowers and any type of machine, but his favorite activity was spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brittaninee Brown Collins; sister, Grace Ingles and Glenda Ann Wood; and brothers, Gerald Brown, Alvin Brown, Dennis Brown, Paul Brown, Hoyt Brown, JW Brown, James Brown and Steve Brown.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Martha Dean Peace Brown; sons and daughters-in-law, Sammy Brown, Richard and Becky Brown and Tommy and Tammy Brown; sisters and brother-in-law, Dorthene Phillips, Pat and Ivis Harris, and Tammy Jo Brown; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Brown will be held Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 12:00 Noon in the Teloga Baptist Church with Pastor Tony Weaver and Rev. Ivis Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Brooksie “Granny” Mitchell, age 92, of Summerville, GA, took her last breath on this side of life and her first breath in Heaven on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Oakview Health and Rehabilitation.

Mrs. Mitchell was born September 14, 1932, in Cullman, AL, daughter of the late Floyd Williams and Myrtis Willingham. She was a member of Menlo First Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed as a Creeler for World Carpet in Dalton, GA.

Mrs. Mitchell loved her family and was a very strong woman who lived what she believed. She enjoyed working in her flower beds, reading, and putting together puzzles. She loved anything Thomas Kinkade.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Silas Mitchell; the father of her children, Roy Patterson; sisters, Wilda Ashley, Faye Lyles; and daughter, Ann Pritchett.

Survivors include her sons, Ronnie (Wanda) Patterson, Tony Patterson, Wayne (Joyce) Pritchett; step-son, Spunky (Cindy) Mitchell; grandchildren, Julie (Tim) Willingham, Jackie (Angie) Pritchett, Patricia (Dave) Howard, Denita Allmond, Merri (Jesse) Blankenship, Kirk (Jennifer) Patterson, Joe (Becky) Patterson, Neal Patterson, Jennifer (Kasey) Smith, Stacey Mitchell, Josh Mitchell, and Blake Mitchell; 23 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Deborah Jean “Debbie” Hall, age 66 of Trion, Georgia passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2024 in a Rome hospital.

Debbie was born in Trion, Georgia on October 12, 1958, daughter of the late Harry Lowell Peace and Shirley Yvonne Anderson Peace. She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ and was the former owner of Southern Living Farm and Garden and Debbie’s Daycare. Debbie enjoyed mowing her yard, shopping with her sister, watching her grandson in his Rodeo competitions and traveling to the Blue Ridge Mountains. In addition to her parents, Debbie was preceded in death by a sister, Tammy Adams.

Debbie is survived by her husband, Randy Hall; daughter, Ashley Hall; son and daughter-in-law, Zach and Jamie Hall; sister and brother-in-law, Melody and Randy Mitchell; grandchildren, Carsen, Jadon, Nayla, Braxton and Rance; a great grandchild, Kaylee; special niece, Kristy Tucker; and a number of additional nieces, nephews and family members.

MR. JOHN WAYNE CHAMBERS, age 84, of Melba Drive, Trion, Georgia, passed away Monday, December 16, 2024, in Trion, Georgia, He was born in Trion, Georgia to the late John Mac and Mattie Bryan Chambers on January 13, 1940. Mr. Chambers was Methodist by Faith, a Veteran of the U. S. Army serving in Korea, and was retired chemical operator for Rico Industries. In addition to Parents, He was preceded in death by a sister, the late Doris Bryant.

Surviving are daughters, Amy (Ben) Stanfield and Mary Beth (Darrin) Morrison; grandchildren, Micah and Mason Hughes, Levi Stanfield, and Brandon Morrison.
