Frances D. Scoggins, Obit (ER)

MISS FRANCES D. SCOGGINS, age 86, of Subligna, Georgia, passed away Friday morning, October 18, 2024, in the local nursing home. She was born in Subligna on March 10, 1938, to the late Lawrence Chapman Scogging, Sr. and Ida Mae Rambo Scoggins. Miss Scoggins was a lifelong member of the Subligna Baptist Church and was a homemaker. In addition to Parents, She was preceded in death by her brothers, the late L. C. (Doc) Scoggins, Jr. (Ina) and Harold Scoggins (Dot), sister, the late Ms. Margaret Scoggins, and nephews the late Daryle Scoggins and Erick Scoggins.

Surviving are nieces and nephews, Sheryl McKinney and Carol Scoggins, Brion Scoggins, Mike Scoggins, and Mark Scoggins; several Great Nieces and Great Nephews; special friend, Odell Anderson.

Graveside and interment service, to celebrate the life of Miss Scoggins, will be held Monday, October 21st, at 1 P.M. at the Subligna Community Cemetery, with pastor Dr. Charles Bishop officiating. Active Pallbearers will be Nephews. In accordance with Miss Scoggins wishes, there will not be a visitation, anyone wishing to attend the service is requested to assemble at the Cemetery. The Family wishes to thank the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the care provided to Miss Scoggins during her stay.

Mickey Hughes, Obit (C)

Mr. Mickey Hughes, age 80 of Trion, Georgia passed away Friday, October 18, 2024 in a Rome hospital.

Mr. Hughes was born in Summerville, Georgia on March 5 1944, son of the late Roland Hughes and Rosa Dell Boyd Hughes Floyd. He was retired from and D Electric, where he was employed as an electrical technician and was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Hughes enjoyed deer hunting and fishing and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Randy Hughes; step-father, Harold Floyd; sisters, Doris Reed and Shelia Winters; and brothers; Terry Winters, David Hughes, Larry Hughes and Ronnie Hughes.

Mr. Hughes is survived by his wife, Joyce Hughes; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tim and Kelli Winters and Allen and Vicki Hughes; sister, Andra Hughes; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bobby and Pru Roberts; special friends, Louvenia McDaniel and Othel Earwood; 2 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren, special niece and nephew, Crystal and Mark Nixon; and a number of additional nieces, nephews and other family members.

Graveside and Interment Services for Mr. Hughes will be held Monday, October 21, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in the West Hill Cemetery with Mr. Steve Morgan officiating.

Pallbearers will include Mark Nixon, Anniston Mann, Blake Mann, Gavin Mann, Casey Brown and Randy McNeese.

Donald Jason Ray Wigley, Obit (M)

Mr. Donald Jason Ray Wigley, age 49, of Trion, GA, died Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Jason was born January 13, 1975, in Rome, GA, son of Yvonne Padgett Wigley and the late Donald Lester Wigley. He was employed with Roper.
Jason also loved reading, science fiction movies, and rock-n-roll music.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his lifelong companion, Linda Jean Smith.

Survivors include his mother, Yvonne Wigley; sisters, Darlene (Tony) Johnson, Madonna Wigley, and Denise (Phillip) Wright; special nieces, Lindsey Wright, Abbi Wright, Chasity Bridges, Candy Hammitt, and Toni Dawn Jones; and a special nephew, Isaac Wright.

Private graveside services will be held at West Hill Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Pastor Ronald Luther “Ronnie” Pettyjohn, Obit (C)

Pastor Ronald Luther “Ronnie” Pettyjohn, age 75 of the Spring Creek Community in Trion, Georgia, passed away Monday, October 14, 2024 at his residence.

Pastor Ronnie was born in Trion, Georgia on March 12, 1949, son of the late Alfred Joseph Pettyjohn and Maybelle Hale Vineyard. He was a member of the Dry Valley Baptist Church and was retired from Mr. Vernon Mills. He also was the former pastor of Foster Mill Drive Baptist Church in Lafayette for 10 years. Pastor Ronnie loved to play golf, coon hunt, play softball, coach sports and talk about his Lord and Savior. He was the past president of the Chattooga River Coon Hunters Club and was a former Amateur Wrestler. In addition to his parents, Pastor Ronnie was preceded in death by his step-father, Marvin Vineyard; sisters, Margaret Hawkins, Mary Nell Mull and Betty Stoner; and a brother, Mitchell Hines.

Pastor Ronnie is survived by his wife, Linda Pettyjohn; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Pastor Terry Hampton; son and daughter-in-law, Lamar and Michelle Pettyjohn; sisters, Barbara Farrow and Ella Jean Allen; grandchildren and their spouses, Brandon and Jennifer Hampton, Hayley and Matt McPhail, Chandler and Josie Pettyjohn, and Courtney and Lee Massey; great grandchildren, Gunner McPhail, Brice Hampton, Baylor Hampton, Charlie Massey and Hallee Pettyjohn and a number of nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank his nephew, Larry Stoker for always being there.

Funeral Services for Pastor Ronnie will be held Thursday, October 17, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with his son-in-law, Pastor Terry Hampton officiating. Interment will follow in the Pettyjohn Cemetery.

MRS. VIOLET RUTH ALEXANDER, age 84, of Dalton, Georgia, formerly of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Sunday morning, October 13, 2024, in Dalton. A native of Trion, Georgia, She was born on November 25, 1939, to the late James Harold Burkhalter, Sr. and Nora Belle Ledbetter Burkhalter. Mrs. Alexander was a member of the Summerville First Baptist Church, retired from the accounting department of Chrysler Corporation, and in addition to Parents was preceded in death by Her daughter, the late Alisa Burkhalter, sisters, the late JoAnn Derusha and Nancy Lambert, and brother James Harold Burkhalter, Jr.

Surviving are Her husband, Don Alexander; grandchildren, Bailee Crowe and Jacob Brown; great grandchildren, Ellie Crowe and Oakland Crowe; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral and interment service will be held Wednesday, October 16th, at 2:00 P.M. from the West Hill Cemetery, in Trion, Dr. Randy Clayton officiating; active pallbearers, Mason Eller, Matthew Johnston, Dakota Crown, Jason Hall, Cole Hall, and Jacob Brown. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12:00 noon until 1:30 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

Michael Paulie Perry, Obit (M)

Mr. Michael Paulie Perry, age 55, of Summerville, GA, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Atrium Health Floyd-Chattooga.

Mr. Perry was born May 3, 1969, in Trion, GA, to the late Tommy Lee Perry and Mary Covington Perry. He was a member of New Sprit and Truth Assembly of Jesus and was previously employed with Mount Vernon Mills.

Mr. Perry was educated in the Chattooga County School System where he graduated in 1988. He had a great love for basketball. He was married to Vanetta Spivey where he was blessed with one daughter, Joshlyn Meckel Perry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.

Precious and fond memories will remain with his daughter, Meckel Perry; brothers, Terrell (Marylynn) Perry, Tommy (Felicity) Perry, Kimmy Perry; sisters, Aletha (Bobby) Johnson, Christie Williams; granddaughter, Zariah Jazalynn Perry; uncle, George Covington; brothers-in-law, Greg Dean and Jermaine Spivey; sister-in-law, Shelia Dean; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Perry will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 15, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop V.T. Hardin and Deacon Michael Mack officiating. Interment will follow in Summerville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tyrone Scales, Preston Foster, Mark London, Parrish Perry, Todd Madden, and Mac Perry. Flower Girls will be family and friends.

MR. HAROLD LEE HELTON, age 87, of Helton Drive, Summerville, Georgia, Berryton Community, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2024, evening in a Rome hospital. A native of Berryton, He was born on August 29, 1937 to the late Lewis Houston and Mary Gertrude Ray Helton. Mr. Helton was a member of the Berryton Baptist Church, retired from the Dye Department of Mohawk Industry, and was preceded in death by his wife the late Vesta Stephens Helton on March 23, 2024.

Surviving are daughters, Cheryl Lee Farrar (Brent Williamson) and Stephanie Helton; granddaughter, Jennifer Lee Farrar Turner; great granddaughters, Stella Frances Lee Turner, Annabelle Dianne Turner, and Vivian Rose Turner; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Jayne Helton; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 11th, at 3:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Smith officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Ms. Jo Ann Derusha, age 80 of Trion, Georgia, formerly of Denver, Colorado, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2024 in a Lafayette Healthcare Center.

Ms. Derusha was born in Trion, Georgia on April 8, 1944, daughter of the late James Harold Burkhalter and Nora Belle Ledbetter Burkhalter. She was from the Denver Public School System and was of the Christian Faith. Ms. Derusha enjoyed traveling, camping, going to casinos and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Burkhalter; sister, Nancy Lambert; sister-in-law, Linda Burkhalter; and a niece, Alisa Burkhalter.

Ms. Derusha is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lee and Kim Derusha and Kevin Derusha; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Don Alexander; nieces, Debbie Bostwick and Donna Lee; a nephew, Grant Burkhalter; special friends, Jane Brown, Vickie Darnell and Ralph Brock; two grandchildren, Jessica Derusha and Stephan Derusha; and two great grandchildren, Roman Derusha and Hunter Derusha; and friend and father of her children, William “Bill” Derusha.

Mr. William Forrest “Bill” Collins, Jr., age 62 of the Pennville Community, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2024 following injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Bill was born in Rome, Georgia on August 19, 1962, son of the late William Forrest Collins, Sr. and Patsy Faye King Collins Perry. He was a graduate of Trion High School, where he played on the Football Team. Bill attended the former Pennville Tabernacle Church and was a self employed contractor and carpenter. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, especially making canes; and was always helping others. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his stepfather, Jim Perry; maternal grandparents, Walter and Faye King; paternal grandparents, William and Ella Collins; and special friends, Liz Bradley and Mr. Bob Evans.

Bill is survived by a son Tray Bruno; sister and brother-in-law, Aleah Collins Joos and her husband, Doug; brother, Rex Collins; honorary sister, Annalisa Hughes; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Bill will be held Friday, October 11, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Green Hills Memory Gardens.

Mr. Donnie Eugene Hollingsworth, age 69 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, October 5, 2024 at his residence following an extended illness.

Donnie was born in Steele, Alabama on April 5, 1955, son of the late Calvin Lindsey Hollingsworth and Lillie Mae Robinson Hollingsworth. He was a member of the Spring Creek Baptist Church and was retired from Attalla Casting. Donnie enjoyed woodworking and made crosses for different fundraising events and donated them to the sick and widowed as well at parents that had lost children. He also liked to garden and be outside. In addition to his parents, Donnie was preceded in death by two sisters, Bonnie Cline and Connie McDonald; and two brothers, Lonnie Hollingsworth and Ronnie Hollingsworth.

Donnie is survived by his wife, Judy Hollingsworth; daughters and sons-in-law, Anna and Darian Dotson and Emily and Darrell Parker; sons and daughters-in-law, Adam and Maddy Hollingsworth, Donald and Crystal Hollingsworth and Kevin and Dee Hollingwsorth; 17 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Donnie will be held Monday, October 7, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. in the Spring Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Holman and Mr. Stacy Evans officiating. Interment will be in the Fisher Cemetery in Ft. Payne, Alabama.

Pallbearers will include Adam Hollingsworth, Darrell Parker, Darian Dotson, Nathan Harris, Roy Dotson and Mac Dotson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kayden Powell and Lilly Parker.
