Mrs. Dorothy Manship Obit (M)

Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth Parr Manship, age 88, of Trion, GA, (formerly of Hiawassee, GA) died Friday, October 19, 2012 at the Suites at Oakview.

Mrs. Manship was born May 30, 1924 in Falls Township, PA. She was the daughter of the late Josephine Greeniee Foell Parr and Harry Parr. She was a member of Trion United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the Hiawassee United Methodist Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Manship; and a sister, Margaret Trofe.

Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Karen and Joe Cook, Trion,GA, and Linda Sawyer, LaFayette, GA; grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann (Robin) Livesay Oak Ridge, TN, Laura Cullen, Decatur, GA, and Lucy Sosebee, Suwanne, GA; great grandchild, Joseph Livesay, Oak Ridge, TN; sisters, Mary Jane Harris, Langhorne, PA, and Joan Hanna, Mankin Sabot, VA.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Woods Grove Memorial Cemetery in Hiawassee, GA, with Rev. Jennifer Andone officiating.

Mrs. Manship will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m Tuesday, October 23, 2012. She will also be in state at Cochran Funeral Home in Hiawassee, GA on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 from 1:00 p. m. until the service hour.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Trion United Methodist Churh or Hiawasse United Methodist Church.

MS. KATHLEEN TERESA WATKINS

MS. KATHLEEN TERESA WATKINS– AGE 65, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2012. She was a member of the West 5th Street Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Kathleen Black Watkins, Sr.

Survivors are two brothers, Richard Watkins, Jr. and James (Freda) Watkins; four aunts, Eva Byron, Carrie Young, Annie Black, and Idella Black; a host of nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service will be held Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 2:00 P. M. from the West 5th Street Church of Christ with Bro. John Lewis and Bro. J. J. Bankston officiating. Her remains will lie in state at the funeral home after 11:00 a. m. on Saturday. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Interment, Summerville Cemetery. 

Mr. Ernest Charles “Chuck” Gayton

 
Mr. Ernest Charles “Chuck” Gayton, age 24, of Summerville, GA died Thursday,
October 18, 2012 at his residence.
 
Mr. Gayton was born November 6, 1987 in Rome, GA, son of Bobby Charles
Gayton, Jr. and Cindy Lee Ivie.  He was employed as a roofer with Atlas Roofing
and was of the Baptist faith.  Mr. Gayton was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ralph Ivie.
 
Other than his parents, Mr. Gayton is survived by his wife, Whitney Alayna King Gayton; brother, Jacky Gayton; sister, Mary Riggs; grandparents, Bobby Charles Gayton, Sr., Jonan Ivie, and Larry and Phyllis Tucker; mother-in-law, LeAnne King Palmer; brothers-in-law, Skyler King, Ross Palmer, and Matt Riggs; and a sister-in-law, Amanda King.
 
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 20, 2012 from the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Decker and Rev. Mrs. Hellene Lousie Wooten Obit (M)

Mrs. Hellene Louise Wooten, age 69, of Summerville, GA, died Monday,
October 15, 2012 at her residence.
 
Mrs. Wooten was born June 28, 1943 in Summerville, GA, the daughter of
the late Lovett Johnson and Surlina Ryles Johnson.  She was retired
from Best Manufacturing.   Other than her parents, she was preceded in
death by sisters, Edna Sewell and Evelyn Bankston; brothers, Frank
Johnson, Billy Johnson, and James Johnson.
 
Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Wooten; companion, John Q. Adams;
grandchildren, Breland Wooten and Te’Kierah Wooten; great-grandson, Tyson
Wooten; sisters, Mary Daniel, Hazel Price and husband, Mark Price; brother and wife, Rufus and Annie Johnson; and a host of Nieces and Nephews.
 
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Friday, October 19, 2012 from the
chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. James Loveless and Rev. Greg
Ludy officiating.  Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.  Active
pallbearers will be Breland Wooten, Theron Findley, Andre Fleetwood, and

Mr. John L Monroe Burke, age 74, of Summerville, GA died Sunday, October
14, 2012 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
 
Mr. Burke was born October 28, 1937 in Trion, GA, the son of the late Fred
Stoney Burke and Evie Irene Jones Burke.  He was retired from the city
of Summerville.  Mr. Burke was a member of the Harrell Street Church of God.
 
Survivors include a sister, Mary Ellen Norris; and brothers, Ed Burke, Melvin
Burke, and Leo Burke.
 
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Wednesday, October 17, 2012

Mr. Andy Toles Obit

Andy Toles, age 59 of the Scottsville Community, passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 due from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Murray County.

Andy was born on February 19, 1953 in Floyd County. He was the son of the late William Porter Toles and Laverne Scott Toles. Andy was a member of the Meadowdale Baptist Church and “Missionaries on Bikes.” He was employed by Allied Transportation / TSU of Ranger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Albert and Stella Scott.

Survivors include: his wife, Neva Toles of the Scottsville Community; two step-sons: Shane Patterson of Calhoun and Ben Patterson of Asheville, NC; one sister, Pam McMurray and her husband Bill of Hendersonville, NC; four beloved grandchildren: Dakota, Cheyenne, Hunter and Tate Patterson. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 4pm on Saturday, October 13th from the Meadowdale Baptist Church with Dr. Steven Pearson officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery.

Pallbearers serving include: Jonathan Scott, Bron Scott, Roger Scott, Dakota Patterson, Dutch Scott, Kelly Scott, Danny Goswick and Danny Hensley.

Honorary Pallbearers will be “Missionaries on Bikes.”

Mrs. Esther Lynn Thompson, age 66, of Gaylesville, AL, died Thursday, October 11, 2012 at her residence.

Mrs. Thompson was born April 20, 1946 in Trion, GA, the daughter of the late Bertha Ingle Mitchell. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Thompson was a member of Faith Baptist Church. Other than her mother, she was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Mitchell.

Survivors include her husband, James Thompson; son, Michael Thompson, daughters, Cindy Rowlls, Paula Penson, and Beth Storey; brothers, Roy Mitchell and J. W. Mitchell; sisters, Evelyn Burleson and Betty Sue Sanford; 11 Grandchildren; and 3 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m EST on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Sanford DeBerry and Rev. J. W. Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Union Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Donovan Thompson, Dale Storey, Michael Thompson, Jordan Penson, Austin Penson, Terry Rowlls, Richard Penson, and Tim Bullington. Mr. Benny Seals Brown Obit (M)

Mr. Benny Seals Brown, age, 66, of Calhoun, GA died Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Kindred Hospital in Rome, GA.

Mr. Brown was born May 29, 1946 in Trion, GA, the son of the late Willie Matt Brown and Sara Mae Sparks Brown. He was a self-employed truck driver. Mr. Brown was a member of the Berryton Church of God. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Benji Brown.

Suvivors include sons, Chris Brown, Tracy Brown, and Mitchell Brown; sisters, Doris J. White, Willie S. Sizemore, and Leila Ward; brother, Freddy Brown; grandchildren, Brittny Walker, Ryan Brown, and Seth King; great grandchild, Annabella King.

Graveside services will be held at 4:30 p. m. Friday, October 12, 2012 at Summerville Cemetery with Rev. Barry Brown officiating.

T/SGT. Donald Edwin Baggett Obit (Henderson)

  U.S. Air Force Retired. T/Sgt. Donald Edwin Baggett, age 73, of 160 Meadowbrook Lane, Summerville, passed away on Monday morning, October 8, 2012, in a local hospital.

Mr. Baggett was born in Chattooga County, Georgia on September 4, 1939, son of Bessie Josephine Rosser Baggett and the late John Franklin Baggett.  He was a graduate of Pepperell High School and was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 22 years of service.  Prior to ill health, Mr. Baggett was a volunteer with Heyman Hospicecare of Floyd Medical Center.  He was a member of the Lyerly First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class.  In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra Holsomback Baggett, in 1993, and by a sister, Judy Kyzar.

            Survivors include his wife, the former Mary Elizabeth Sims, to whom he was married on October 13, 1994; 2 sons, Donald Jeffrey Baggett and his wife, Tina, Summerville, and Jonathan Baggett, and his wife, Leisa, Plainville; his mother Mrs. Bessie Josephine Baggett, Lindale; a sister, Barbara Baker, Silver Creek; 4 grandchildren, James Christopher Baggett, Jenifer Miller, Sandra Baggett, and Caitlin Baggett; nieces and nephews also survive.

            Funeral services will be held at 3pm on Wednesday, October 10, 2012, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Barry Peppers and the Rev. James Baird officiating.  Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens at 4:30pm Wednesday with military personnel from Robins Air Force Base providing military honors.

            The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6pm until 8pm.  At other hours, they may be contacted at the residence.

Mrs. Frances Ponder Obit (ER)

MRS. FRANCES PONDER, age 82, of Hammond Drive-Summerville, Georgia passed away Monday, October 8, 2012, morning. She was a member of South Summerville Baptist Church, born in Trion, Georgia on June 13, 1930, a daughter of the late Robert E. and Mae Bohannon Gilmer, who died while Mrs. Ponder was a young child and was reared by her grandmother the late Maebelle Gilmer. 

Surviving are husband-Henderson F. Ponder; two Daughters and sons-in-law- Claudette and Jerry Mahan of Summerville and Jenette and Coleman Slay, Jr. of Armuchee; Five Grandchildren, Four Great Grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 10th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Bryant and Rev. David Craven officiating, interment in the Family Plot of Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Jeremy Mahan, Terry Mahan, Rainer Slay, Robert Floyd, Emory Gilmer, Randall Ledford, and Eric White. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home. At other hours the Family will be at the residence of a daughter Jenette & Coleman Slay, Jr. #562 Floyd Springs Road-Armuchee.
