MRS. MARY LAURA ANN SMITH CHILDERS, age 85, of West Tate Road, Summerville, Georgia, passed away peacefully, at home, Thursday morning, surrounded by her Family. She was born in Chattooga County, Georgia on March 25, 1939, a daughter of the late Forney Wes Smith, Sr. and Alma Lee Brown Smith. Mrs. Childers was a Homemaker, member of Dry Valley Baptist Church where She was a Sunday School Teacher, Flower Lady, and Christmas Play Director. In addition to Parents, She was preceded in death by husband the late James Marvin Childers, Sr., sons-Larry Randell Childers and James Marvin (Jimmy) Childers, Jr., and grandson, Joshua James Childers.

Surviving are daughter, Susan Elaine (Paul) Dodd; sons, Stephen Landon Childers and Gary Lee Rape; daughters-in-law, Debbie Childers and Raynell Childers; sisters, Rebecca Ann Pettyjohn and Judy Lynne (Scott) Noel; brothers, Richard Franklin (Linda) Smith and Forney Wes (Tonia) Smith, Jr.; 14 Grandchildren, 34 Great Grandchildren, 6 Great Great Grandchildren; special friend, Dennis Crews; several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral and interment service will be held Saturday, June 22nd, at 11:00 A.M. from the Greenhills Memory Garden with Dr. Lee Hickman and Kendrick Shelton officiating.

Harold Eugene Callan, Sr, Obit (C)

Mr. Harold Eugene Callan, Sr. age 76 of Subligna Area of Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, June 20, 2024 in a Rome hospital.

Harold was born in Trion, Georgia on January 13, 1948, son of the late Will Callan and Ila Mae Comer Callan.  He was a member and Sunday School Teacher at the Bethlehem Baptist Church, and was retired from the Packing Department of Mt. Vernon Mills.  In his younger days, Harold enjoyed playing softball, but as his boys got older, he chose to help coach and mentor them, rather than play.  He loved being outdoors and spent many hours gardening and working in the yard.  In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by a brother, Ken Callan.

Harold is survived by his wife, Diane Callan; sons and daughter-in-law, Gene Callan and Corey and Angela Callan; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nellie and Larry Clements and Ann and Tom Rhinehart; brothers and sisters-in-law, Doug and Anita Callan, Bill and Jan Callan, Tommy Callan, JR and Carol Callan and Jack and Melinda Callan; and a number of nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Funeral Service for Harold will be held Sunday, June 23, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in the Bethlehem Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Hobbs and Rev. Larry Scoggins officiating.  Interment will follow in the Subligna Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Gene Callan, Corey Callan, Bill Callan, Jack Callan, JR Callan and Tommy Callan.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Doug Callan and the members of the Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Harold will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.  On Sunday, Harold will lie in state at the Bethlehem Baptist Church from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service

Mr. Wayne Andrew McArthur, age 90, of Summerville, GA, died Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at his son’s residence.

Mr. McArthur was born May 21, 1934, in Summerville, GA, son of the late Andrew Gordon Lee McArthur and Grace Mitchell McArthur.  He was a member of Berryton Baptist Church and prior to his retirement, was employed with Mount Vernon Mills.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Espy McArthur; and a sister, Florence Cavin.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Paula McArthur; grandchildren, Cody McArthur, Lacey McArthur Ward; great-grandchildren, Colt McArthur, and Dusty Ward.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 22, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Barry Brown and Bro. Frances Ramey Patterson, Obit (M)

Mrs. Frances Sue Ramey Patterson, age 88, of LaFayette, GA, died Wednesday,  June 19, 2024, at her residence.

Mrs. Patterson was born February 17, 1936, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late Paul and Daisey Durham Ramey.  She was a homemaker and was Baptist by faith.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Patterson was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Rev. James Robert Patterson; brothers, Billy Ramey, Clifford Ramey, and Hoyt Ramey; sisters, Elsie Chastain, Mary Ruth Woodard, Elizabeth Ramey, Kathryn Ramey, Yvonne Sawyer, and Nebalene Ramey.

Survivors include her sons, Randall (Lolly) Patterson, Charles (Sandra) Patterson; daughter, Robin (Brent) Bruce; grandchildren, Heath (Rhiannon) Patterson, Daniel (Kristen) Patterson, Chad Patterson, Luke Patterson, Hannah (Nathan) Schuster, Devan (Jeanie) Bruce, and Ashlyn Bruce; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Patterson will be held at 4:00 Friday, June 21, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Lewis officiating.  Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be grandchildren.

Mrs. Patterson will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Friday.

Jacquelyn Glenda (Jackie) Shiflett, Obit (ER)

MRS. JAQUELYN GLENDA (JACKIE) SHIFLETT, age 66, of Menlo, Georgia, passed away Friday morning at Her residence. Mrs. Shiflett was born in Rome, Georgia on May 16, 1958, a daughter of the late John Clifford Holder and Patricia Lee Aycock Holder, who survives. Mrs. Shiflett was a Para Legal, retiring from Albert Palmer Law Firm in 2021 after thirty three years of service.

Surviving are Her husband, Tim Shiflett; mother, Patricia Holder; sons, Chris Shiflett and Michael Shiflett; Six Grandchildren; sisters, Kathy and Terri; brother, John; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Annie “Ruth” Kinsey, Obit (M)

Mrs. Annie “Ruth” Kinsey, age 93, of Summerville, GA, died Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at her residence.

Mrs. Kinsey was born January 30, 1931, in Lyerly, GA, daughter of the late Hobert and Laura Wheeling Stallings. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed in the lab at Mount Vernon Mills. She was also a member of the Red Hat Club.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Allard Stinson; a son, Ricky (Cynthia) Stinson; brothers, Hobert Junior Stallngs, Jet Stallings, and Fred Stallings; a grandson, Justin Stinson; and son-in-law, Gary Wayne Talley.

Survivors include her daughter, Shelby Jean Talley; brother, Billy (Angie) Stallings; a sister, Bessie May; sister-in-law, Joyce Stallings; grandchildren, Kevin Battles, Brian Stinson, and Chris Stinson; and great-grandsons, Jacob Battles, Logan Stinson, and Nolan Stinson.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 15, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Peppers and Mr. Lance Stallings officiating. Interment will follow in Lyerly Cemetery.

Charlie Monroe Hogue, Obit (ER)

MR. CHARLIE MONROE HOGUE, age 68, of Marks Road, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday morning in LaFayette, Georgia health care. He was born in Summerville, Georgia on January 12, 1956, a son of the late Fred Deforest and Audra Mae Hogue. Mr. Hogue was a retired textile worker and in addition to Parents, was preceded in death by his companion, Treva June Fowler and several Sisters and Brothers.

Surviving are sons, Charles Dewayne Hogue and Joshua Monroe McGuire; daughters, Kimberly Rollins, Rachel McGuire Dotson, and Shawna McGuire; brothers, Calvin Hogue, Howard Hogue, and Dewey Hogue; several Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 15th, at 1:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Tony Samples officiating, interment in Subligna Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Fred Hogue, John Hogue, Michael Hogue, Buster Hogue, Ronnie Wilson and Corey Wright. Katheryn Lee Borman, Obit (C)

Katheryn Lee Borman passed away peacefully in her home Tuesday, June 11th 2024 surrounded by her family. Kathy was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Kathy was born April 4, 1955 in Trion, Georgia. She was the eldest of three siblings and known for her gentle spirit and her deep love for her family. She never had a harsh word to say about anyone and devoted her life to serving the Lord and raising her family.

Kathy stayed at home until her youngest started school. She then went back into the work force and worked at Best Manufacturing for several years before joining the team at Roper Corporation. She retired from Roper after 22 years.

Kathy loved a house full of family and her happiest moments were the hustle and bustle when her six kids and 16 grandkids came and filled her home. She had a special place in her heart for each and every one.

Kathy was baptized at an early age and found the Lord. Her faith grounded her and she had a spirit of calmness and peace in the midst everything she endured. She had the most sweetest voice and kindest words to lift and encourage. She will be greatly missed by so many. If there is one verse that stands out to describe mom it is, Proverbs 31:26 “She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.”

Kathy was preceded in death by a daughter, Terri Best; two grandchildren, Logan Suggs and Matt Snider; sister, Lisa Cox and a brother, Gene Lively. She is survived by her children, Bobby and Julie Snider, Clay Borman, Tina and Michelle Snider, Jill Nichols and Jacy Borman; grandchildren, Jacob and CC Gill, Brooke and RJ Brown, Kinsey and Josh Ables, Karlah Snider, Gracie Borman, Cavryn Borman, Haley Nichols, Shawn Hightower, Jose and Justin Broyles, Taylor and Ian Crawford, Daulton Vaughn, Gavin Porter and Jonte Porter; numerous great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In accordance with Kathy’s wishes, she will be cremated and there are no plans at this time for any formal services.

Miss Wanda Sue Barr, age 62, of Trion, GA, died Monday, June 10, 2024, at Oakview Health and Rehabilitation.

Miss Barr was born May 28, 1962, in Atlanta, GA, daughter of the late Robert Barr, Jr. and Mary Magdeline Chapman Barr.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert “Junior” Barr.

Survivors include her sisters, Lesia (Timmy) Barr, Tammy (Joe) Barr, and Mary Alice Barr; and 27 nieces and nephews.

Graveside and interment services for Miss Barr will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, June 14, 2024, at West Hill Cemetery.

Howard Dale Scoggins, Obit (ER)

MR. HOWARD DALE SCOGGINS, age 74, of Summerville, Georgia, Subligna Community, passed away Monday afternoon, June 10, 2024, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Scoggins was born in Chattooga County, Georgia to the late Howard Smith Scoggins and Christins Pledger Scoggins on October 23, 1949. He was a member of the Perennial Springs Baptist Church and retired Salesmen.

Surviving are His wife, Dianne Scoggins; daughter and son-in-law, Shelley Scoggins (Adam) Hawkins; sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen (Stacy) Barnes and Michael Dale (Dayna) Scoggins; sisters, Sandra Martin and Brenda (Ralph) Teems; brother, Larry (Pat) Scoggins; grandchildren, Abby Scoggins Hill (Terry), Alex Bonine, Caleb Barnes, Morgan Barnes, Mattison Hawkins (fiancée Gauge Burkett), Ally Hawkins, Jackson Willis, Judson Willis, and Rylan Scoggins; Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June13th, at 2:30 P.M. from the Perennial Springs Baptist Church with Rev.
