Mrs. Lola Mae Mathis, age 88, of Little Sand Mtn. Community, Armuchee, GA died Sunday, December 25, 2011 at Floyd Medical Center.

Mrs. Mathis was born October 17, 1923 in Little Sand Mtn., GA, the daughter of the late Huston and Mamie Ward Cargle. She was a homemaker and former employee of the Glove Mill at Trion. Mrs. Mathis was a member of Little Sand Mt. Baptist Church, the Homemaker’s Club, and the Knitting Club. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel D. Mathis; sister, Dorothy Cargle Milam; brothers, Huston Cargle, JR, and Billy Cargle.

Survivors include sisters Thelma Ruth Rench and Carolyn Geneva Gentry,and her husband, James Gentry; brothers, James Oliver “Shorty” Cargle, Hugh Carlton Cargle, and his wife, Gumelda Cargle; Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces, and Great Nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Little Sand Mt. Baptist Church with Rev. Max Carver, Rev. Larry McCoy, and Rev. Larry Scoggins officiating. Burial will follow in Little Sand Mt. Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tim Mathis, Roger Mathis, Allen Ridge, Terry Cargle, Eddie Gentry, Tony Rench, Tommy Cargle, and Jeff Cargle.

Mrs. Mathis will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Tuesday, December 27, 2011.

MRS. ILEEN BOWLING, age 92, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, December 24, 2011, morning in a Rome hospital. A native of Randolph County, AL, She was born to the late Milford Green and Viola Henderson Overton on March 10, 1919. Mrs. Bowling was a Charter member of Pentecostal Worship Center and was preceded in death by her husband the late Joseph Lemuel Bowling on September 26, 1996 and a grandson the late Luke Grogan. Surviving are daughters-Shirley Grogan, Brenda Martineau, and Dorothy Hutchins, Rebecca Dyer, and Marlene Watwood all of Summerville; son Dwight Bowling of Lyerly; Ten Grandchildren, Twelve Great Grandchildren;; sister & brother-in-law, Mary & Randall Slater of Rising Fawn, GA.; sisters-in-law, Lillian and Louise Overton; special cousin, Ola Bowling; several Nieces and Nephew also survive. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 27th, at 2:00 P.M. from the Pennecostal Worship Center with Pastor Andy Hutchins, Dr. Terrell McBrayer, Pastor Gary Howell, Pastor Kenny Morris officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Mr. Latta was born December 22, 1935 in Centre, AL, son of the late Edd C. and Cynthia Ida Godfrey Latta. He was a member of the Central Avenue Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. Latta was a veteran of the United States Air Force and prior to his retirement, was employed with Mt. Vernon Mills.

Mr. Latta is survived by his wife, Martha Anderson Latta; sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Theresa Latta, Gary and Melinda Latta and Grant and Kendra Latta; brother, Otis Latta; sister, Ellen Garmon; grandchildren, Andy Latta and Ben Latta; one great grandchild, Knox Latta.

Funeral Services for Mr. Latta will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. in the Central Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor John Leatherwood, Rev. Scott Quinn and Rev. Owen “Bud” Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Andy Latta, Ben Latta, Kenneth Cox, Blake Crabtree, Ross Crabtree and Larry Gilreath. Honorary Pallbearers will be Albert Rutledge, the Deacons and Men of Central Avenue Baptist Church, Randy Crabtree, John Young, Bruce Wallin and Jim Persons.

On Tuesday, Mr. Latta will lie in state at the Central Avenue Baptist Church from 2:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.

Mr. Luther William Ward Sr., age 88, of Summerville, Ga, passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Redmond Regional Medical Center. Mr. Ward was born October 23, 1923 in Cherokee County, AL. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah‘s Witness where he was very active with his faith and served as an elder in the congregation. Mr. Ward was preceded in death by his wife, Rosie Irene Sims Ward, a son, Albert Ward and 7 brothers and sisters. Survivors include his children, Luther Ward Jr., Annie Ruth Chapman, Patricia Smith and husband Charles Smith, brother, Sandy Ward, 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 8:00 p. m. Tuesday, December 20, 2011 from the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Barney Mason officiating. Mr. Ward will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Tuesday.

Mrs. Alberta Johnson Snider, age 85, of Summerville, GA, passed away Monday December 19, 2011 at the Floyd Medical Center. Mrs. Snider was preceded in death by her parents Gordon and Bonnie Johnson, her husband, Charles Edward Snider, and a son Gary Brown.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Beverly Kay and Alfredo Nazario, daughter-in-law, Becky Brown, sister-in-law, Christine Johnson, 2 special grandchildren, Wes and Will Allen, grandchildren, Sherry & Glen Elsberry, Buffy & Randy Stephens, Vince & Amanda Nazario, great-grandchildren, Mason & Jackson Elsberry, B.J. Vaughn, R.J. Stephens, Ashley & Arron Nazario.

Graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday December 22, 2011 from the Lyerly Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Wilborn officiating.  Pallbears  will be Wes Allen, Will Allen, Glen Elsberry, Eddie Elsberry,  Randy Clayton, and David Combs.

Mrs. Snider will lie in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday December 21, 2011.  Mason Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Clicky Wooten, age 89, of Albertville, AL, formerly of Gaylesville, AL died Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Cherokee County Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Wooten was born April 16, 1922 in Fort Payne, AL, the son of the late Robert and Ella Mae Couch Wooten. He was a farmer for many years and later retired from Harriett and Henderson Cotton Mill. He loved to dance and to listen to blue grass gospel music. Mr. Wooten was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Ruth Morris Wooten; son, Charlie Wooten; daughter, Linda Mullins, sons-in-law, Burland Mullins and Steve Woodall; daughter-in-law, Elsie Wooten; and 21 Brothers and Sisters.

Survivors include his children, Marvin “Bud” Wooten, Cedar Bluff, AL, Pat and Mike Mason, Huntsville, AL, Peggy and Henry Mason, Summerville, GA, Jerry and Dolly Wooten, Covington, GA; Mary and Debo Busby, Chattoogaville, GA; 21 Grandchildren; 32 Great-grandchildren; 11 Great-Great- Grandchildren; and several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p m Monday, December 19 from the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Wilborn officiating. Burial will follow in Mill Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Grandsons.

Mr. Wooten will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Sunday.

MR. E. J. BROWN, age 87, of Wayside Community, Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday (December 16, 2011) morning in a Rome hospital. A life time resident of Chattooga County, Georgia, He was born to the late Henry and Emma Headrick Brown on January 28, 1924.

 Mr. Brown was a member of the Berryton Bible Mission and was retired from Barwick Mills and Riegel Textile Corporation slacher rooms. He served in the U.S. Navy in WW II and was preceded in death by his wife the late Nellie Bell Armstrong Brown and step son the late Ronnie Headrick.

Surviving are grandchildren-Tony Headrick, Kimberly Headrick, Melissa & Kirk Fauscett, Leann & Don McGrath; great grandchildren-Kristen & Dakota Headrick, Lauren Fauscett, Emily & Jonathan McGrath; step children-Douglas & Joann Headrick, Johnny Headrick, and Sharon Headrick; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 18th, at 1:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Rutledge officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 5 until 8 P.M. at the Funeral Home. MRS. GENEVA SKINNER SHIREMAN, age 89, of Highway #337 Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, December 16, 2011, morning in a Rome hospital. Born in Chattooga County, Georgia on August 5, 1922, She was a daughter of the late Sam and Ella Broome White.

Mrs. Shireman was a member of New Antioch Baptist Church, retired from the spinning department of Riegel Textile Corporation, and was preceded in death by her husbands the late Earnest Shireman and the late Bill Skinner, and a daughter-the late Jeannette Hill.

Surviving are son-Douglas & Vivian Shireman; daughter-Sharon & Mickey Collins of Carrollton; step daughter-Karen & George Stivers; step son-Darrell & Annette Skinner all of Summerville and Richard & Sandy Skinner of Indiana; 9 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 19th, at 2 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Helton and Rev. David Pettyjohn officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery.
