John Martin “Marty” Gary, Obit (M)

Mr. John Martin “Marty” Gary, age 54, of Trion, GA, died Friday, March 22, 2024, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Mr. Gary was born March 18, 1970, in Rome, GA, son of Roy David Gary, Sr. and the late Christine Azlee Sims Gary. He was Baptist by faith and owned and operated Tootsie’s.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a son, Joshua Martin Gary; and a brother, Roy David Gary, Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Harley Stricklin Gary; sons and daughter-in-law, Dylan (Derrian)Gary, Preston Gary, and Brixton Gary; daughters, Marlee Gary, Joni Gary, and Ellie Gary; father and step-mother, Roy (Marie) Gary; a brother, Jerry (Anna) Gary; grandchildren, Asher Baker, Rilyn Neal, Leo Baker, Declan Gary, and Sawyer Gary.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 28, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Min. Hugh Glaze and Mr. Richie White officiating. Interment will follow in Summerville Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jeff Strickland, Isaac Morgan, Marcy Yancey, Larry Bishop, Lamar Fowler, and Ricky Sims. Chris Smith will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Mr. Gary will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service on Thursday.

Vesta Stephens Helton, Obit (ER)

MRS. VESTA STEPHENS HELTON, age 84, of Helton Drive, Summerville, Georgia, Berryton Community, passed away early Saturday morning, March 23, 2024, at her residence. A native of Berryton, She was born on September 16, 1939 to the late G. W. and Catherine Magdalene Nelson Stephens. Mrs. Helton was retired lab tech for Best Mfg. Company and a member of North Summerville Baptist Church. In addition to Parents, She was preceded in death by a brother the late Doug Stephens.

Surviving are husband, Harold Lee Helton; daughters, Cheryl Farrar (Brent Williamson) and Stephanie Helton (Jeff Dotson); granddaughter, Jennifer Turner; great grandchildren, Stella Turner, Annabelle Turner, and Vivian Turner; brother, Bruce (Ruth) Stephens; sister-in-law, Barbara Stephens; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 25th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Smith officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Joseph Stephens, Brent Williamson, Evan Stephens, Chuck Helton, Tommy Maynor, and Terry Scoggins.

Gregory Wayne “Greg” Brown, Obit (C)

Mr. Gregory Wayne “Greg” Brown, age 56 of Summerville, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at his residence.

Greg was born in Rome, Georgia on August 4, 1967, son of Charlotte Young Brown and the late Freddy Letell Brown. He was former team leader at the Roper Corporation and had attended the Berryton Church of God. Greg was a loving father and a great grandfather, lovingly call Paw Paw Brown by his grandson. He enjoyed drawing, writing stories and romantic poems for his wife, Tammy. In addition to his father, Greg was preceded in death by a brother, Josh Brown.

Greg is survived by his wife of over 35 years, Tammy Brown; son and daughter-in-law, RJ and Brooke Brown; brothers and sister-in-law, Scott and Rhonda Brown and Guy Brown; grandson, Dax Brown and a number of nieces and nephews and additional family members.

Visitation for Greg will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Coffman Funeral Home.

Hugh Goodwin Tucker, Obit (M)

Mr. Hugh Goodwin Tucker, age 71, of Summerville, GA, died Saturday, March 16, 2024, at his residence.

Mr. Tucker was born April 6, 1952, in Summerville, GA, son of the late John Andrew Tucker and Agnes Thomas Tucker. He attended the Pennville Community Church, and prior to his retirement, was employed as a Counselor with the State of Georgia. Mr. Tucker was also a veteran of the United States Air Force.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Tucker was preceded in death by siblings, Maxine (Melvin) Brown, Robert Tucker, Bonnie Smith, Gail Tucker; and a brother-in-law, Jerry Shaver.

Survivors include his brother, John Thomas (Linda) Tucker; a sister, Delaine “Dee” Tucker Shaver; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at the Pennville Community Church Cemetery with Rev. Jon Davis officiating. Pallbearers will be David Owens, Gary Abernathy, Roger Owens, Matt Tucker, and Samuel Wysong.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery from 1:30 P.M. until the service hour on Tuesday.

Michael Ray “Fuzz” Parker, Obit (M)

Mr. Michael Ray “Fuzz” Parker, age 68, of Gaylesville, AL, died Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Oakview Health and Rehabilitation.

Mr. Parker was born April 4, 1955, in Trion, GA, son of W.A. and Bettye Vaughn Parker. He attended Chelsea Baptist Church and was employed as a block mason.

Survivors include his parents, W.A. and Bettye Parker; a brother, Tony Parker; sisters, Debbie (Ernie) Hester, Shelia (Donnie) Bullard, Bonnie (Dan) Bullard; and Pam (John) Mason.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 16, 2024, at AMI Cemetery with Rev. Bobby Lemons officiating.

MR. ELVIN EARL PATTERSON – Age 83, – Of Summerville, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at Oakview Health Care. He was born on May 5, 1940 to the late James Patterson, Sr. and Delia McMichael Patterson. He was preceded by his five brothers, Nathaniel, Joe, James, Emmanuel, and John Wesley Patterson. Mr. Patterson joined New Bethel Baptist Church at an early age.

Survivors are his devoted close friend and caregiver for many years, Ike M. Henderson and family; a host of loving cousins; and many friends. Special thanks to the Staff at Oakview Health Rehabilitation Center and the Summerville Community.

Rico Auntuan Perry, Obit (W)

MR. RICO AUNTUAN PERRY – AGE 53, – Of Summerville, Georgia passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024. He was born on December 1, 1970 to the late Deborah R. Perry and Ralph Slack. He was a member of the World’s Church Of The Living God and he was a graduate of Chattooga High School, Class of 1989 where he was on the football team. He was employed at Mount Vernon Mills as long as his health permitted. Mr. Perry was preceded by his daughter, Cijivea Mitchell, grandmothers, Clara Johnson, and Christine Slack, grandfather, Ben Perry.

Wanda Ann Edenfield Eller, Obit (M)

Mrs. Wanda Ann Edenfield Eller, age 54, of Summerville, GA, died Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Emory University Hospital.

Mrs. Eller was born August 21, 1969, in Metter, GA, daughter of the late Lee and Edna Cleghorn Edenfield. She was a homemaker and was Baptist by faith. She also enjoyed arts and crafts. She also enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Boggs.

Survivors include her husband, Timothy Eller; a son, Derek Eller; and a daughter, Tonya Eller.

MR. JAMES PATRICK (PAT) GAINES, age 66, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Monday, March 11, 2024, in the local nursing home. Mr. Gaines was born May 1, 1957 in Summerville, Georgia to the late Joe B. and Martha Bartlett Gaines. He graduated from Chattooga High School Class of 1975, attended Jacksonville State University and was a member of the JSU Marching Southerners from 1976 and 1977. Pat was Baptist by Faith, was an ordained Deacon, and actively attended church until His illness. In addition to Parents, He was preceded in death by brothers-in-law Alan Dean and Nelson Wilson.

Surviving are His wife, Karen Dean Gaines; son, Ethan Gaines; sister, Brenda Gail Wilson; special sister, Cece Laney; special brother, Andy Hutchins; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Mrs. Judy Ann Mitchell Allmon, age 81, of Summerville, GA, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2024, at Advent Health Redmond.

Mrs. Allmon was born April 21, 1942, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late J.W. and Harriet Cash Mitchell. She was Baptist by faith, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Mohawk.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Allmon; sister, Sandra Henderson; and a granddaughter, Jamie DeLee.

Survivors include her daughter, Julie Keen; sister, Becky (Steve) Osby; grandchildren, Drake Keen and Jennifer Burrage; 4 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
