Mrs. Marlene B. Garner, age 89 of Trion, Georgia passed away Friday, April 5, 2024 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Garner was born in Summerville, Georgia on August 22, 1934, daughter of the late Gordon Bartlett and Izetta Mason Bartlett. She was the owner of Marlene’s Fabrics in Summerville and had been the manager of the Crate Ladies Apparel Store for over 20 years. She was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Garner was preceded in death by daughters, Lisa Jo Jarrell and Anggie Lee Chandler; a son, Phillip Wayne Garner; and two brothers, Dewayne Bartlett and Marshall Bartlett.

Mrs. Garner is survived by a sister, Glenia Hayes; brother and sister-in-law, James Lee and Brigette Bartlett; grandchildren, Rebecca Hall, Zach (Erin) Reynolds, Christy Chandler, Chandler Staton and Drew Casteel; two great grandchildren, Sawyer Reynolds and Cullen Hall; 6 nephews and 3 nieces.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Garner will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Minister L.D. Ludy officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Garner’s family will receive friends Tuesday morning from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour.

Dale Warren Stephens, Obit (C)

Mrs. Dale Warren Stephens, age 78 of Trion, Georgia passed away Thursday, April 4, 2024 at the local emergency facility.

Mrs. Stephens was born in Trion, Georgia on September 6, 1946, daughter of the late Zack Taylor Warren and Martha Jane Rickett Warren. She was a member of the Summerville Church of God and was retired following a career as a switchboard operator with the Chattooga County Hospital and working vending machines with Wometco Enterprises. Mrs. Stephens traveled across the country in her younger years singing Gospel music. She was an avid doll collector, Christmas Village collector, but her favorite activity was being a loving Mother and Granny. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stephens was preceded in death by a sister, Tina Warren Ware and a granddaughter, Katelynn Bass.

Mrs. Stephens is survived by her children, Brad Stephens, Allen Stephens and Amy Bass; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jan and Jerry Corbin and Gini and Kelly Hamilton; brothers and sister-in-law, Buddy and Sheila Warren and Don Warren; eight grandchildren, Shawna, Jenna, Dalton, Shelby, Tina, Bubba, Cameron and Skyler; 8 great grandchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews and additional family members.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Stephens will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. David Romine and Rev. Chris Pickle officiating. Private Interment will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Stephens’ family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 Noon until the funeral hour.

Willie Moween Langston Woodall, Obit (M)

Mrs. Willie Moween Langston Woodall, age 87, of Gadsden, AL, died Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at McGuffey Healthcare in Gadsden.

Mrs. Woodall was born June 21, 1936, in Centre, AL, daughter of the late James L. and Ruby Lee Deering Langston. She was retired from the healthcare field where she worked as a nurse’s aide. Mrs. Woodall loved playing bingo and going to church at the nursing home.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Huey Woodall; sons, Kenneth Nix and Keith Nix; and a sister, Joyce Speer.

Survivors include her grandsons Chad Nix and Cris Nix; and 2 great-grandchildren; 3 special nieces, Linda (Dan) Hicks, Christy (Lane) Bailey, Debra (Darren) Hamilton; 4 great-nephews, Brody Bailey, Joey Hicks, David Sanford, Travis Hamilton; and 3 great-nieces, Stephanie Hicks, Amber Cochran, and Nikki Mullins.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 11:00 A.M. (EST) Friday, April 5, 2024, at AMI Cemetery with Rev. Sanford DeBerry officiating.

Mrs. Woodall will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:30 A.M. (EST) on Friday.

Mrs. Jo Ann Jones, age 76, of Gaylesville, AL, died Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at her residence.

Mrs. Jones was born February 26, 1948, in Biloxi, MS, daughter of the late John Franklin Tucker, Sr. and Frances Leora Teague Tucker. She had attended Mount Zion Independent Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Mohawk Industries.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Leon Jones, Jr.

Survivors include her children, Darlene (Richard) McCullough, Franklin (Jenny) Jones, and Beverly Trammell; brother, Junior (Donna) Tucker; a sister, Irene Owen; grandchildren, Eric (Sylvia) McCullough, Lola (Jeremy) Potts, Ashly (Shane) Reynolds, Tiffany (Steven) Ryan, Hillary Atchley, and Melody (Rickey) Turberville; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. (EST) Friday, April 5, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Freddie Waldrop officiating. Interment will follow in the Faith Baptist Church Cemetery in Gaylesville. Pallbearers will be Johnnie Mason, Donnie Duff, Michael Young, William Burkhead, Steven Ryan, and Anthony Patterson.

Connie Luann Short, Obit (M)

Ms. Connie Luann Short age 58 of Lyerly, GA passed away Monday, April 1, 2024 at a Rome hospital.

Ms. Short was born August 22, 1965 in Rome, GA to the late L.C. and Melba Reece Short. She was retired and enjoyed reading, going to the beach, and spending time with her dog Molly.

Survivors include her brother, Mike (Jayne) Short; nephew, Will Short; along with numerous cousins and friends.

Graveside and interment services to celebrate the life of Ms. Short will take place at 2:00 PM Thursday, April 4 at Lyerly Cemetery with Rev. Don Mason officiating. Pallbearers will be friends.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:30 until 1:30 at Mason Funeral Home.

Billy Wayne Mitchell, Obit (ER)

BILLY WAYNE MITCHELL, 71, of Rome, Georgia, passed away March 28, 2024. Born July 20, 1952 in Summerville, Georgia, He graduated in 1970 from Chattooga High School, later from Shorter College with an elementary education major, and then received his Masters Degree from Berry College. Billy taught lower elementary school, mostly second grade, for thirty years at Pennville Elementary School. He was active in the PTT at Pennville School, serving as Treasurer for 18 years; former President of the Chattooga Education Association, he was a GAE member for thirty years. He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association in Chattooga County, a member of the Chattooga County Historical Society and enjoyed doing a great deal of family genealogical research. Billy served many years as Treasurer for the Oakdene Place Neighborhood Association, was on the Board of Directors of the Rome Area Heritage Foundation, and opened his home for several Tour of Homes events. He is preceded in death by parents, Donald and Lucille Whisenant Mitchell, brother, Rodney Mitchell, sister, Elaine Mitchell, great nephew, Eddie Ponder, and many aunts and uncles.

Survived by life partner, of 51 years, Brentz Turner; niece, Cindy (Wayne) Albrecht, great niece, Jamie (Joe) Prince, great nephews Kiley (Jessica), and Isaac (Ashley) as well as great great niece, Ella Prince, great great nephews, Henry Prince, Jared (Elizabeth) Peulausk Ponder, and Ethan Albrecht; sisters-in-law, Ann (Jim) Lynch, and Fran (Ron) Palmer; as well as many friends, neighbors, and extended family.

Celebration of life for Billy Wayne Mitchell will be held Sunday, April 7th, at 3:00 P.M. from the Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Dr. Kenneth Norton, Caroline Jones, Maisha Ludy, and Jamie Prince. Angelia “Darlene” Webb Floyd, Obit (M)

Mrs. Angelia “Darlene” Webb Floyd, age 64, of Mentone, AL, died Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Mrs. Floyd was born December 23, 1959, in Trion, GA, daughter of Barbara Elaine Morgan Webb and the late Grady Monroe Webb. Prior to her retirement, she was employed with the Mentone Mountain View Inn as the inn keeper and manager.

Darlene Floyd was a person who found happiness in the simple pleasures: family, friends, and sunshine. She lived for the days that she could sit on her back porch with her husband, Jerry, beside her, watching their grandkids play and laughing with those around them or walking the shorelines of Daytona Beach. She never met a stranger and had a knack for carrying on a conversation with anyone she met.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by an infant sister as well as her sister, Kathy Webb Henderson.

Survivors include her husband, William Franklin Jerome “Jerry” Floyd; sons, Johnathan Levi Jerome (Candita) Floyd, Nicklos Andrew Morgan (Kelly) Floyd; daughters, Laura Hope Elaine (Benjamin) Windom; mother, Barbara Elaine Morgan Webb; brothers, Steven (Christy) Webb, Jeremy (Lindsey) Webb; and 10 grandchildren.

Memorial services for Mrs. Floyd will be held at 4:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Min. Cat Reynolds officiating.

Sherrie Lynn McWhorter Thrasher, Obit (C)

Mrs. Sherrie Lynn McWhorter Thrasher, age 51 of Summerville, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2024 in an Atlanta hospital.

Sherrie was born in Rome, Georgia on June 22, 1972, daughter of Ralph Edward McWhorter and Vickie Lynn Smith McWhorter. She was a member of the Dry Valley Baptist Church, where she was a member of the New Millennium Sunday School Class, and was the Director of Revenue Cycle at Atrium Floyd Health. Sherrie was a graduate of Trion High School, where she played Tennis and was a member of the band. She loved to sing and had traveled with her family singing for many years. She loved the Lord and her church family and had started teaching Sunday School at the age of 15. Sherrie received her Bachelor’s of Business and her Master’s in Business Health Care from Shorter College. Some of her additional hobbies included shopping, spending time with her family, traveling, collecting shoes and being with her furbaby, Char-Char. Sherrie was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents, Rev. Johnny and Betty Smith and Rev. Emory and Jenny Lee Payne.

Sherrie is survived by her husband, Tracy Thrasher; son, Gavin Blocker; daughter, Jordan Thrasher; parents, Ralph and Vickie McWhorter; sister, Candie McWhorter; brothers and sister-in-law, Jason and Wendy McWhorter and William McWhorter; and a number of additional family members and friends.

Funeral Services for Sherrie will be held Sunday, March 31, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Lee Hickman and Rev. Terry Hampton officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chris Smith, Josh Dodson, Lamar Pettyjohn, Sam Cotroneo, Dillon Thrasher, Simon Veatch and Seth Veatch. Honorary Pallbearers will be the New Millennium Sunday School Class.

James Derek Adams, Obit (M)

Mr. James Derek Adams, age 57, of Summerville, GA, died Sunday, March 24, 2024, at his residence.

Mr. Adams was born September 17, 1966, in Rome, GA, son of the late Herman Winston Adams and Mary Ann Bridges Hale. He was a member of Trion First Baptist Church and was retired from Mohawk Industries. He had also previously been employed with Hurley’s Grocery Store, Miller-Southeastern Mills, and Sysco Foods.

Mr. Adams was a member of the Rodeo Society for 11 years as a bull rider for Charlie Lowry as well as a rodeo clown for 2 years. He drove in the mini-cup NASCAR series for a short time and was an avid fan of Dale Earnhardt, Sr. In his young adult life, he participated in church baseball and volleyball leagues, and prior to his recent sickness, he helped with the youth at Trion First Baptist Church. He also loved to camp and fish.

For the last 16 years, he’s actively competed in barbeque competitions, earning many trophies over the years. His greatest accomplishment was winning the Jack Daniels World Championship Backyard Contest in 2014, where he received a perfect score of 180. Not only did he cook barbeque, but he was also a certified judge for the Kansas City Barbeque Society. He has been a cancer warrior for almost 2 years, but his greatest reward was being a dad.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Adams was preceded in death by twin sons, Brendan Lee Adams and Preston Frazier Adams; his second father, Herbert Hale; brother, Steven Helton “Stevie” Breeden; grandparents, Albert Moody Bridges, Helen Inez Tidmore Bridges, Guy and Sydney Adams; his father-in-law, Nelson Lee Wilson; and special uncle, Pat Gaines.

Survivors include his wife of 23 years, April Lee Wilson Adams; sons, Dylan Chase Adams, Levi Jaden Adams; brother, Stanley (Susan) Hale; sister, Wanda (Dale) Levan; sister-in-law, Cynthia (Nick) Swords; mother-in-law, Brenda Wilson; 6 nieces, 4 nephews; 1 great-niece; 4 great-nephews; 2 great-great-nephews; many cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday, March 29, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Casey Bramlett, Mr. Michael Duvall, and Mr. Ray Henson officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be his friends in the barbeque community, the Men’s Sunday School Class of Trion First Baptist Church; and special friends, Michael Cothran, Phil McGuire, and John Sterner.

Mrs. Jenith Crane Plunkett Lowrance, age 72, of Trion, GA, died Sunday, March 24, 2024, at her residence.

Mrs. Lowrance was born July 6, 1951, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late Harvey N. Plunkett and Velma Crane Plunkett. She attended Pleasant Grove Church of Christ, and prior to her retirement, was employed at Hays State Prison. Mrs. Lowrance loved spending time with her grandkids and enjoyed taking people to church. She also loved all things purple and was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Levon Lowrance.

Survivors include her sons, William Shane Lowrance, Wade (Veronica) Lowrance; grandchildren, Marcos Lowrance, Kaylynn Lowrance, and Haley Lowrance.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 27, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Min. Hugh Glaze, Min. Barry Grinder, and Min. Tyler Gilreath officiating.
