Mr. Charles Douglas Tudor, age 60 of Trion, Georgia passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, February 21, 2024.

Doug was born in Summerville, Georgia on July 24, 1963, son of Martha Oneida Williams Tudor and the late Charles Milton Tudor. He had attended the Pennville Church of Christ and was a talented Welder. Doug enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially turkey hunting. He was a skilled craftsman, and could do anything from wood burning and carpentry to furniture making. He was well loved and will be missed by many. In addition to his father, Doug was preceded in death by a niece, Jessie Elizabeth Tudor.

Doug is survived by his wife of 17 years, Jennifer Tudor; mother, Martha Tudor; brothers, Virgil (Christy) Tudor and David (Tom Strayhorn) Tudor; sisters, Susan (Rusty) Webb and Jan (Britt) Willingham; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Heather Brady; mother-in-law, Betty Brady; father-in-law, Terrell Brady; nephew, Weston Brady; special friends Brody McCarty and Tufton Blanks; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services for Doug will be held Sunday, February 25, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:00 P.M. until the service hour.

Mr. Martin Scott “Marty” Greene, age 53 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, February 16, 2024 in Rome Hospital.

Marty was born in Rome, Georgia on June 27, 1970, son of Brenda Ann Rogers Mason. He was a self employed handy man and had attended the Connect City Church. Marty loved to sing and play drums, and anything related to music. He enjoyed playing baseball and softball and riding roller coasters.

Marty is survived by his children, Kayla Marie Rogers, Nevaeha Noles, Bailey Noles and Lyric Wilson; mother, Brenda Mason; grandchildren, Kierra Rogers, Bentley Harmon and JT Noles; and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

Funeral Services for Marty will be held Friday, February 23, 2024 at 4:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Jarred Pickard and Rev. Mike Odom officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Paul Brown, Brandon Brown, Shawn Brown, Alan Lamar Brown, Cody Harmon, Scott Hardisty and Robert Sumner.

Charles Russell Shockley, Obit (M)

Mr. Charles Russell Shockley, age 67, of Summerville, GA, died Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Atrium Health Floyd-Chattooga.

Mr. Shockley was born March 7, 1956, in Oakhill, WV, son of the late Isaac Shockley and Rosa Lee Brown. He was retired from the United States Army where he attained the rank of E-5. Mr. Shockley enjoyed fishing, football, and spending time with his grandchildren. He also served as chairman of the policy counsel for Chattooga County Head Start.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Ricki Ann Davone; and a brother, Tom Brown Shockley.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Betty Funderburk Shockley; sons, Charles Shockley, II, Malcom Shockley; daughters, Savanah Shockley, Tyshara Shockley; brothers, William Brown Shockley, Isaac Shockley; sisters, Savannah Turner, Eleanora Shockley; 34 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Shockley will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 24, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Brown Shockley officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Ronald Calvin Blalock, Obit (M)

Mr. Ronald Calvin Blalock, age 90, of Summerville, GA, died Sunday, February 18, 2024, at Advent Health Redmond.

Mr. Blalock was born January 17, 1934, in Broomtown, AL, son of the late Francis Calvin Blalock and Lula Don Hartline Blalock. He was a member of Wayside Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, was employed with General Electric. Mr. Blalock had served in many roles at Wayside Baptist Church including Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendant, Chairman of the Deacon Board, Treasurer, and Chairman of the Building Committee. He was also a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Katherine Vernon, Nell Dood; brothers, Hugh Blalock and Bobby Blalock.

Survivors include his wife, Eleise Bramlett Blalock; daughters, Sharon (Sammy) Padgett, Melissa (Allen) Cummings, Scarlet (Jared) Makohon; brothers, Benjamin Blalock, Sammy Harold Blalock; grandchildren, April Padgett, Chris Padgett, Shawn Cummings, Michelle Young, Amanda Hughes, Heaven Broome, Anslei Broome, Shade Patterson, Stormie Johnson, and Jace Makahon; great-grandchildren, Timothy Chitwood, McKenzy Chitwood, Bethany Chitwood, and Blakely Padgett; special caregivers, Tina Cordle, Tracey Spraggins, and Pat Roberson; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 23, 2024, from the Wayside Baptist Church with Rev. Joel Smith and Rev. Mike Odom officiating. Mr. Timothy Lee Elrod, age 48 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, February 17, 2024 at a Rome hospital.

Mr. Elrod was born in Summerville, Georgia on June 30, 1975, son of Roy T. Clayton “Junior” Bryant, Jr. and the late Rebecca Ann Kirby Bryant. He was a jack of all trades, working on cars, construction projects, working with his chainsaw and making canes from bamboo. He was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his mother, Mr. Elrod was preceded in death by his stepfather, Garles Elrod and a niece, Amber Wright.

Mr. Elrod is survived by his father, Junior Bryant; daughters, Mysteri Owens, Xena Spraggins and Destini Elrod; sister, Cindy Reed; grandchildren, Allison Bowman, Amira Bradford, Akira Bradford, Alaric Bradford and Ruby Martin; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Elrod will be held Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Berryton Cemetery.

Mr. William Hugh (Bill) Barbee, Obit (ER)

William Hugh (Bill) Barbee passed away unexpectedly on February 10th, 2024 in Gainesville, Georgia. Bill was just 34 years old.

Bill was born April 3rd, 1989 in Hammond, Indiana to the late Ms. Sue Johnson and the late Mr. J.B. Barbee. He lived his early years in Indiana before moving to Georgia at the age of 3. He attended Chattooga County High School.

Bill was full of energy and lived life to the fullest. He never met a stranger, and truly loved people from all walks of life. Bill’s greatest joy in life was being the dad of three amazing, beautiful children: Jadon (13), Braydon (11), and Avery Cate (8). He enjoyed his time with them immensely, and was extremely proud of the people they are becoming. Bill was also a very giving person, even to the point of death, donating his organs so that others may live.

Bill was the youngest of 10 siblings, with 5 sisters and 4 brothers. Siblings include: Jacqueline Barbee, the late Deborah Barbee Peace, Michael (Dee) Barbee, Steve Barbee, Candace (Dennis) Brown, Natasha (Jason) Judge, Branden Riner, Natalie Johnson, and James (Danielle) Barbee. He had countless nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are being provided by Rainwater Funeral Home in Summerville. The funeral is at 4pm on February 24th, with visitation from 3pm to 4pm. Misty was born in Ft. Oglethorpe, GA on June 21, 1985, daughter of Danny Ray Bradley and Tina Louise Clifton Blalock. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist Faith, often visiting Spring Creek Baptist Church. Misty was a member of the Unified in Recovery Group. She was an avid music lover, enjoyed art, working puzzles and taking pictures, especially selfies. Misty was preceded in death by a son, Lonnie Floyd Treadaway; her paternal grandmother, Flora Melvina Bradley; maternal grandfather, David Floyd Clifton; uncles, Billy Joe Clifton and John David Clifton; nieces, Arabella and Willow Parker; former father-in-law, Jerry Treadaway; bonus Dad, Mike Ellis; Maw-Maw, Ann Holloway; second Mom, Shirley; and step-mother, Angela Dempsey; and a cousin, Tonya Ingram.

Mrs. Bowman is survived by her husband of 51 years, Jackie Paul Bowman; son, Jeremy (Lacy) Bowman; daughter, LeAnn (Dustin) Webb; sister, Shirley (Roger) Farmer; grandchildren, Chase and Coley Bowman, Sophie and Paisleigh Webb.

Funeral services for Mrs. Bowman will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Ridgeway Baptist Church with Mr. Robert “Bug” Thomas and Rev. Gary Lewis officiating. Mr. Key was born July 6, 1981, in Fort Payne, AL, son of Kathy Darlene Palmer Brown and the late Gordon Phillip Key. He was previously a member of Chelsea Baptist Church and was a self-employed handyman. Mr. Key was also an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs.

In addition to his father, Mr. Key was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Gordon and Helen Key; and maternal grandparents, Huston and Bessie Palmer.
