MR. JERRY LEE STRICKLAND, SR., age 86, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Thursday evening, May 23, 2023, in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. He was born in Thomaston, Georgia to the late Wilson Lee and Lucille Robinson Strickland, on July 6, 1937. Mr. Strickland was a member of the Menlo First Baptist Church, a Veteran of the U. S. Navy, and was a retired store clerk for the Pure Stop. In addition to Parents, He was preceded in death by his wife, the late Martha Wofford Strickland in 2015, sisters & spouse, Evelyn and Horace Williams and Bernice Walters two brothers the late Ernie L. Strickland and Joseph Lamar Strickland.

Surviving, step son, Kevin and Dana Baker; grandchildren, Blake Baker, Haley Baker, Kyle Baker; special friends, Dana Hughes, Louis Parrill, and Simon Parrill; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 28th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Helton officiating, interment in Ami Cemetery. Pallbearers are Thomas Waller, Joshua Jennings, Greg Williams, Barry Williams, Louis Perrill, and Simon Parrill. Visitation will be Tuesday from 12:00 noon until 2:00 P.M. at The Funeral Home.

Vienna Grizzle Jones, Obit (M)

Mrs. Vienna Grizzle Jones, age 74, of Summerville, GA, died Monday, May 20, 2024, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Mrs. Jones was born June 28, 1949, in Dahlonega, GA, daughter of the late George Tate Grizzle and Mozella Margaret Ridley Grizzle. She was a homemaker and a member of Subligna Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Velma Sullens, Vinnie Rodgers, Violet Blackwell, Verbie McClure, and Vivian Grizzle; brothers, Vernon Grizzle, Venson Grizzle, Verlon Grizzle, and Virgil Grizzle.

Survivors include her sons, Roger (Donna) Grizzle, Ricky (Berenice) Jones; daughter, Brenda (Henry) Snelgrove; sisters, Verdie Grizzle, Viola (Charlie) Holden; 7 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Subligna Cemetery with family officiating. Pallbearers will be Roger Grizzle, Ricky Jones, Henry Snelgrove, Brandon Jones, Anthony Head, Frank Ray, and Caleb Lingerfelt.

Mrs. Jones will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday.

Lora Mae Hill, Obit (C)

Miss Lora Mae Hill, age 75 of the Pennville Community, Summerville, passed away Friday, May 17, 2024 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Miss Hill was born in Trion, Georgia on January 2, 1949, daughter of the late Olin Roscoe Hill and Julie Mae Barnett Townsend. She attended the Living Waters Ministries and was retired from Best Manufacturing and WireTech. She enjoyed going to Trade Day and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, Miss Hill was preceded in death by her longtime companion, T.C. Land and a brother, Charles Brooks.

Miss Hill is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Billy Ray Hill and Randy and Lynn Hill; sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Craig and Shirley and Darwin Blansit; brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Susan Hill; grandchildren, Abby Hill and Aiden Hill; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Miss Hill will be held Sunday, May 19, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Wright officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.  Pallbearers will include Edward Craig, Stephen Craig, Timothy Craig, Adam Cochran, Jeff Blansit and Prayten Perry.

Charles William “C.W.” Ray, Obit (M)

Mr. Charles William “C.W.” Ray, age 80, of Cedar Bluff, AL, died Monday, May 13, 2024, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Mr. Ray was born July 25, 1943, in Gaylesville, AL, son of the late Dee Lee Ray and Gussie Mae Holbrook Ray. He attended Freedom Baptist Church in Gaylesville, and prior to his retirement, was employed with General Electric. He was a member of the Yaarab Temple, the Rome Shrine Club, the Hillbilly Unit, a former member and past master of Alpine Lodge # 211, F&AM, and was currently a member of Cedar Bluff Lodge # 486, F&AM.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Ray was preceded in death by his brother, Sonny (Pat) Ray; sister, Evaughn (Joe Wheeler) Cavin; and brothers-in-law, Tom Mobbs and Harry Adderhold.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa Ray; son, Cassey (Megan) Ray; daughter, Mandy (Mark) Ballard; sisters, Sue Mobbs and Margie Adderhold; grandchildren, Connor Ray, Ella Ray, and Ginna Ray.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. (GA Time) on Friday, May 17, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Chapel with Pastor Terry Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow in Weiss Lake Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Bud Willis, Ricky Sumner, Butch Young, Eric Reynolds, Rickey Wheeling, and Jason Winters. MR. EDWIN HILL HAMBY, age 91, of Beavers Road, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Monday, May 13, 2024, at his residence. Mr. Hamby was born in Trion, Georgia to the late Hugh Lee and Margaret Wofford Hamby on September 29, 1932. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran of Korea, member of the Summerville First United Methodist Church, and was retired terminal manager for Mason & Dixon Truck Lines. In addition to Parents, He was preceded in death by siblings, the late Hughbelle Tucker, Joyce Hogg, Peggy Hogg, Margaret Thomas, and Nelle Adamson; and grandson, the late Luke Grogan.

Surviving are His wife, Frances Lucille Hamby; daughters & sons-in-law, Fonda (Dwight) Morgan, Sonya (Ronnie) Dixon, Kim (Tim) Grogan; sister, Jane Stokes; brother, Jerry Hamby; Nine Grandchildren, Sixteen Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 17th, at 4:00 P.M. from The Chapel At Camp Hamby, with Rev. David Autry and Rev. John Wesley Privett officiating, interment in Garrett Cemetery. MRS. RHONDA GAIL WADE, age 75, of Dogwood Drive, Trion, Georgia passed away Sunday, May 12, 2024, at her residence. She was born in LaFayette, Georgia, to the late Ernie M. and Edna H. Owensby Anderson, on June 24, 1948. Mrs. Wade attended the Lookout Hall Church of Christ, and was retired from winding department for Color Spectrum. In addition to Parents, She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Steven A. Wade, to whom she was married on December 22, 1968; and brother the late Richard Wayne (Bud) Anderson.

Surviving are Her son and spouse, Mike and Wendy Wade; sister and spouse, Elizabeth and Leon Williams; brother and spouse, Ken and Freda Anderson; granddaughter, Autumn Wade.

Mrs. Glenda Joy Noles, age 78 of the Dry Creek Community, Summerville, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2024 in a Rome hospital.

Mrs. Noles was born in Trion, Georgia on June 2, 1945, daughter of the late Bernell Atchley and Azzie Lee Loveless Atchley. She was a member of the West Berryton Faith Temple and was retired the tufting department at Mohawk Industries. She enjoyed traveling and taking trips, especially to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Noles was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Archie Noles, Jr.; a sister, Martha Potts; a brother, Darnell Atchley, and a brother-in-law, Billy Joe Simpson.

Mrs. Noles is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Jennifer Noles and Heath and Amelia Noles; sister, Betty Simpson; grandson, Brendan Noles; great grandchildren, Alice Noles and Jax Noles; special niece, Lisa Cordell; and additional nieces, nephews and family members.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Noles will be held Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Shores and Rev. Rickey Biddle officiating. Ms. Farris Christine Hix, age 85, of Summerville, GA, died Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Ms. Hix was born December 10, 1938, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late James Lewis Hix and Gracie Madeline Smith Hix. She was a member of Four Mile Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed as a Registered Nurse with the Veterans Administration. Ms. Hix was also a veteran of the United States Army.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Ed Davis.

Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Linda Wooten Hix; sister and brother-in-law, Ella and James “Jimmy” Taylor; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Ms. Hix will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 13, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joel Smith and Rev. Larry Scoggins officiating. Mr. Michael Wayne Wright, Sr. age 67, of Summerville, GA, died Friday, May 10, 2024, at Advent Health Redmond.

Mr. Wright was born March 5, 1957, in Rome, GA, son of the late Forrest Elsworth Wright and Ada Elizabeth Salmon Wright. He was Baptist by faith, and prior to his retirement, was employed as an over-the-road truck driver with Seven Hills Trucking.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janice K. Wright; and a brother, David Larry Wright.

Survivors include his sons, Michael Wright, Jr., David Allen (April) Wright; daughter, April (Johnny) Thompson; brother, Robert Lee (Sonya) Wright; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and his girlfriend, Beverly Lawless.

MR. JERRY THOMAS WRIGHT, age 84, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Monday, May 6, 2024 in a Rome hospital. Mr. Wright was born in Cedartown, Georgia, July 31, 1939, son of the late Jay Wright and Mozelle Collins Wright. He worked in Chemical Sales for many years before his retirement in 2004. Mr. Wright was a member of the National Guard and Baptist by faith.
