Mrs. Sylvia Brandon Blansit, Obit. (C)

Mrs. Sylvia Brandon Blansit, age 69, of Summerville, passed away Friday, August 12, 2016 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

 

Mrs. Blansit was born in Winchester, Tennessee on October 17, 1946, only daughter of Rev. Douglas Brandon and Lucille Denton Brandon.  She was a member of the Berryton Baptist Church, where she was the Christmas Play Director for many years.  She retired as a machine operator from the American Rug Mill.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Blansit was preceded in death by her daughter, Melissa Skinner.

 

Mrs. Blansit is survived by her husband, Waymon Blansit; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Kathy Blansit; daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Kyle Price; son-in-law, Brad Skinner; and her grandchildren, Tailor Barrett, Tristan and Kayla Price, Terran Skinner, Brandon Skinner and Janna Price.

 

Funeral Services for Mrs. Blansit will be held Monday, August 15, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. in the Berryton Baptist Church with Rev. Mickey Skates and Rev. Kevin Norton officiating.  Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers will be Tristan Price, Josh Bryan, Brandon Skinner, Chad Barnes, Ronnie Croy, Brandon Croy, Jonathan Roberts, Josh Bennett and Brad Skinner.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the Ladies Sunday School Class of Berryton Baptist Church.

Mrs. Vera June Day, age 86, of Trion, Georgia passed away Saturday, August 13, 2016 at her residence.

 

Mrs. Day was born in Berea, Alabama on September 18, 1929, daughter of the late Robert Boyd and Alice Rachel Cash Boyd.  She was a member of the North Summerville Baptist Church, and prior to retirement, was employed as a mender with Mohawk Industries.  Mrs. Day was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

 

Mrs. Day is survived by a son, Greg Day; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Jimmy Williams; special friend, Jennifer Rosson; grandchildren, Allison Lyons, Shadow Day, Corey Day and Casey Day; and 7 great grandchildren.

 

Funeral Services for Mrs. Day will be held Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Russell officiating.  Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers will be Charlie Woody, Blaine Woody, Alan Mowry, Donnie Rutledge and Justin Williams.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff of Hearth Hospice.

Mrs. Mildred Pauline Jennings Hurley, age 94, of Gaylesville, AL, passed away peacefully at her home in Broomtown, AL, on Thursday, August 11, 2016. 
 
Mrs. Hurley was born March 19, 1922, in Centre, AL, the daughter of the late Luther Franklin and Lucy Evelyn Nicholson Jennings.  She was a member of Mount Bethel Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, she had worked at Riegel Textiles, Georgia Glove Mill, and Hurley Farms.   She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, farmer, gardener, and  mill worker.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hurley was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyett Alfred Hurley; siblings, Hobart Jennings, Sybil Jennings Slayton Hoops, Billy Joe Jennings, Bob Jennings; daughter-in-law, Sandra Wright Hurley, and step-mother, Rachel Gladys Jennings.
 
She is the loving mother to  Betty Jo (William) Schatz, Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Larry Hoyt (Sheila) Hurley, Broomtown, AL; grandmother to Larry Dewayne (Shasta) Hurley, Casey Lamar (Amy) Hurley, Amanda (David) Schatz Babst, Megan (Timothy) Kurteff Schatz, Michael Hoyt (Jill) Schatz;  great-grandmother to Logan McKenzie Hurley, Lawson Trent Hurley, William Oliver Kurteff-Schatz, Noah Michael Kurteff-Schatz, Katharine Pauline Babst, Chester Ryan Babst, Margaret Elizabeth Babst, Jacob Wayne Hurley, Mattie Jean Hurley; and sister-in-law to Evelyn Jennings; and step-sister to Judy Mason.
 
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) Sunday, August 14, 2016, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Maples officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mount Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Dewayne Hurley, Casey Hurley, Michael Hoyt Schatz, Logan Hurley, Lawson Hurley, David Babst, and Timothy Kurteff-Schatz.   Honorary pallbearers will be Dean Buttram, Johnny Roberts, Tommy Miller, Neil Compton, Danny Smith, Danny Jennings, and Dickie Jennings.

Mr. Jackie Bruce Burrage, Sr., age 60, of Lyerly, GA, died Thursday, August 11, 2016, at his residence. 
 
Mr. Burrage was born December 24, 1955, in Guntersville, AL, son of the late Joseph Louis and Myrtle Gertrude Bridges Burrage.  He was a member of the Berryton Church of God, and prior to his retirement, worked as a self-employed truck driver.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Louis Burrage, Jr.
 
Mr. Burrage is survived by his wife, Sherry McGraw Burrage; son and daughter-in-law, Jackie Jr. and Jennifer Burrage; daughters and son-in-law, Angie Burrage, Tiffany and Robert Kellett; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ricky and Jan Burrage, Kenneth and Tina Burrage, Iky and Donna Burrage, Larry and Edith Burrage; a sister, Betty McNeese; grandchildren, Kayleigh Burrage, Grayson Burrage, Cassie Burrage, Ethan Kellett, and Maddie Kellett.

Mr. Howard Gene Hartline, age 67, of Summerville, GA, died Monday, August 8, 2016, at his residence.
 
Mr. Hartline was born January 4, 1949, in Trion, GA, son of Gladys Brewster Hartline and the late Homer Charles Hartline.  He was a member of the Cedar Chapel Church of God, and prior to his retirement, was a self-employed carpenter.  In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Hartline.
 
Mr. Hartline is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy Lee and Natasha Hartline; step-daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Job Ledford; mother, Gladys Hartline; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Hazel Hartline, Virgil and Judy Hartline, Jimmie and Trudy Hartline; sister and brother-in-law, Dona and Ricky Busby; and grandchildren, Timothy Hartline and Haylee Hartline.

Mr. Lenwood Lavaughn Owens, age 78, of Port Charlotte, FL, formerly of Trion, GA, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2016, at his residence.
 
Mr. Owens was born July 26, 1938, in Trion, GA, son of the late Pete and Ruby Owens.  He was educated in the Trion School System.  After high school, he served in the United States Air Force.  He was a member of the Peace River Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, worked as a Quality Control Manager for Barwick Industries in LaFayette, GA, as well as Auto Custom Carpet in Anniston, AL.
 
To his family, friends, and neighbors, Lenwood was known as "Mr. Fixit."  He was always ready to lend a hand to those around him.  Whether it be household repairs or computer work, Mr. Owens was always ready to help.  One of his greatest joys was collecting and repairing broken toys to give to children at Christmas.
 
Mr. Owens is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Linda Owens; daughter, Angela Owens; daughter-in-law, Barbara Thwaites; uncles, Ray Owens, Kelly Owens; in-laws, Wanda and Dickey Justice, Vinson and Nell Carver; sister-in-law, Joanne Carver; and numerous nieces and nephews.
 
Memorial services for Mr. Owens will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 13, 2016, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Barry Justice, Mr. Danny Owens, and Mr. Justin Owens officiating.

Mr. Gerald "Keith" Bearden, age 53, of Trion, GA, died Sunday, August 7, 2016, in Huntsville, AL.
 
Mr. Bearden was born May 5, 1963, in Summerville, GA, son of Gerald Clifford and Edna Sue Evans Bearden.  He was a former band director at Capital Heights School System in Montgomery, AL.
 
Mr. Bearden is survived by his parents, Gerald and Edna Bearden; a sister, Lisa Ann Bearden; a niece, Vanessa Brooke Bearden; and a great-niece, Julia Addison Gary.
 
Funeral services for Mr. Bearden will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 13, 2016, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sandra Faye Dunn, Obit. (C) Revised

Sandra Faye Dunn, age 71 of Trion, Georgia, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2016 at her residence.

 

Mrs. Dunn was born in Trion, Georgia on March 22, 1945, daughter of the late Olin Hensley and Laura Viola West Hensley.  Mrs. Dunn, along with her sister, handmade hundreds of quilts and donated them to Hospices and nursing homes. She retired as an inspector with Wiretech Industries, and in addition to her parents, was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Howard Dunn, and a brother, Johnny Lee “Roy” Hensley.

 

Mrs. Dunn is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Bo Dunn and Dwayne and Janet Townshend; daughter, Margo Rilette; sisters, Pat Rutherford and Carolyn Fowler; grandchildren, Nathan Dunn and Travis Farrell; 3 great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

 

Graveside and Interment Services for Mrs. Dunn will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. in the West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Gary Wells officiating.

 

Pallbearers will be Nathan Dunn, Bobby Jones, Dustin Harris, Chuck Harris, Frankie Willingham and Lamar Fowler.  Honorary Pallbearers will be William Fowler, Mitchell Hensley, and Coley Hatcher.

Mr. George Milton Hammond, age 91, of Trion, GA, died Monday, August 8, 2016, at the Mount Berry Hospice.
 
Mr. Hammond was born August 14, 1924, in Rock Mills, AL, son of the late Milton and Etta Mae Henson Hammond.  He was a member of the LaFayette Assembly of God, and prior to his retirement, was employed with Riegel Textiles.  He was also a veteran of the United States Air Force.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Loneita Crowder Hammond.
 
Mr. Hammond is survived by his son, Houston Hammond; a daughter, Loneita Randle; 5 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
 
Funeral services for Mr. Hammond will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 10, 2016, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Casey Bramlett and Rev. Casey Beene officiating. Entombment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens.
