Mrs. Betty Jean Talley, Obit. (C)

Mrs. Betty Jean Talley, age 71, of Summerville, passed away Friday, July 15, 2016 at her residence.

 

Mrs. Talley was born in Lafayette, Georgia on April 26, 1945, daughter of Juanita Rogers Reeves and the late Merdie Henry Reeves. Mrs. Talley was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church, and prior to retirement, was employed in the Card Room at Mt. Vernon Mills for 40 years.  She was a member of the Quarter Century Club, loved to read and was an avid animal lover.  Mrs. Talley was preceded in death by her father, Merdie Henry Reeves on January 29, 2016.

 

Mrs. Talley is survived by her sons, Jeff DeBerry, and Kelly Ray; daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Wayne Crowe and April and Tracy Trammell; grandchildren, Justin and Khrista Crowe, Haley Lloyd, Colt Trammell. Tyler DeBerry and Chance DeBerry; great grandchildren, T.J. Crowe, Neiko Crowe and Tucker Crowe; and a number of nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for Mrs. Talley will be held Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. in the Pettit Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in the Green Hills Memory Gardens.

 

Mrs. Talley will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.

Ms. Lillie Jordan, age 79, of Summerville, GA, died Friday, July 15, 2016, at the residence of her daughter, Diane Woodall.

Ms. Jordan was born May 30, 1937, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late Isaac and Ethel Boyd Jordan.  She was a member of the Beersheba Presbyterian Church and the Reading Buddies in Menlo, GA.  Prior to her retirement, she was employed with Galey and Lord.

Ms. Jordan is survived by her daughter, Diane Woodall; brother, Wayne Keith; sister, Kathryn Chitwood; grandchildren, Jamye and Kandy Dawson, Jason and Shanna Dawson, Josh and Candy Dawson; great-grandchildren, Ryan Dawson, Abby Dawson, Bella Dawson, Ava Dawson, Jenna Dawson, and Jake Dawson.

Memorial services for Ms. Jordan will be held at 6:00 P.M. Sunday, July 17, 2016, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Thomas Quarles officiating.

Mr. David LaVaughn Mitchell Obit (M)

Mr. David LaVaughn Mitchell, age 75, of Menlo, GA, passed away Friday, July 15, 2016, at Floyd Medical Center.

Mr. Mitchell was born May 2, 1941, in Menlo, GA, son of the late James Wiley Mitchell and Gladys McElhaney Mitchell.  He attended the Summerville First Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, was employed as a Train Master with CSX Railroads.  After his retirement, he and his partner, June, raised cattle.  Mr. Mitchell also served his country in the United States Army, serving as a Medic in Germany during the Vietnam Era.  He was well liked by all who knew him, and he loved people and animals, especially his rescue dog, Jake.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Mitchell; and a nephew, Dale Mitchell.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, June Woods Mitchell; sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Clifford Allmon; nephews, Ken Gilreath, Brad McCurry, Caleb Johnston, and Blake Campbell; nieces, Ginger Johnston, Tammy Campbell, and Madison Campbell.

Funeral services for Mr. Mitchell will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday, July 18, 2016, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny Decker officiating.  Interment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens.  Pallbearers will be nephews.

Mr. Mitchell will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Monday.

Mrs. Janice Knox Hutchins, age 67, of Rome, GA, died Thursday, July 14, 2016, at her residence.
 
Mrs. Hutchins was born January 16, 1949, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late John and Rachel Crye Knox.  Prior to her retirement, she was employed with the State of Georgia.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Hammond.
 
Mrs. Hutchins is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Jeromie Hartline; brother and sister-in-law, John and Suzanne Knox; nephew, Terry Eller; and nieces, Amanda Sellers and Leslie Brady.
 
Funeral services for Mrs. Hutchins will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, July 17, 2016, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenny Roach officiating.  Interment will follow in the Alpine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Knox, Ben Sellers, Jeromie Hartline, Mike Hutchins, Terry Eller, and Jimmie Hartline.

Mr. Billy Joe “Bill” Bentley Obit (M)

Mr. Billy Joe "Bill" Bentley, age 80, of Lyerly, GA, died Thursday, July 14, 2016, at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Bentley was born February 11, 1936, in Jamestown, AL, son of the late John William and Etna Tucker Bentley.  He attended the Lyerly Baptist Church for more than 50 years, and prior to his retirement, he was employed with Riegel Textiles.  Mr. Bentley had also worked in retail sales with cloth, notions, and textile tufting, working throughout Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Alabama.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Otis Bentley, Clarence Bentley, and Bobby Bentley; and a sister, Fay B. Carr.

Mr. Bentley is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Williams Bentley; a daughter, Heather Mistijo Bentley; grandchildren, Lee Lynn and Elizabeth "Beth" Lynn.  A host of nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside and interment services for Mr. Bentley will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, July 16, 2016, from the Lyerly Cemetery with Rev. Abraham Baker and Rev. Andy Pilgrim officiating.  Active pallbearers will be Brandon Gurley, Ryan Graveley, David Tidmore, Jon Dennis, Jonathan Campbell, and Larry Weesner.  Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Crawford, Bill Ramsey, Monroe Glass, Hulett Brooks, Billy Locklear, Bobby Daniel, Stephen Dodd, Harold Ragland, Royce Chitwood, Wilburn Ragland, Frank Cranmore, Ernest Alexander, Jerry Bentley, Greg Bentley, Ronnie Carr, and the members of the Men's Bible Class of the Lyerly First Baptist Church.

Mr. Bentley will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 P.M. on Saturday.

Mr. Francis William Steiner, 81, of Haze Green, AL passed away Monday, July 11, 2016 at a Huntsville Hospital.
 
Mr. Steiner was born December 19, 1934 in Bismarck, ND to the late Verie Leon and Marcella Milsow Steiner. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and retired from D&E Plumbing.
 
Mr. Steiner is preceded in death by his wife; Betty Anne  Cooper Steiner. Survivors include sons; Danny Steiner, Dennis Steiner, D'Lee Steiner, and D'wayne Steiner, daughters; Juverna Roosa, Janine Hutton, Jane Lynch, Carrie Tucker, and Leah McCantz, 29 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
 
Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, July 16  at Little Sand Mtn. Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be James Hutton, CJ Tucker, Heath Lynch,  and Raymond Jones, Jr.

Mr. Byron Augustus Wofford, 52, of Summerville, GA passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Floyd Medical Center.
Mr. Wofford was born April 27, 1964 in Summerville, GA to   Peggy Smith Wofford Bennett and the late Ralph Wofford, He owned/operated  The glass and mirror shop.
Survivors include his wife; Rhonda Johnston Wofford, mother and step-father; Peggy (Bob) Bennett, daughter & son-in-law; Brittany Wofford Dean  & Jon Dean, brothers & sister-in-law; Phil & Becky  Wofford, Greg Wofford, Gary Bennett, and Charles Bennett, and sisters & brothers-in-law; Lynn Wofford & Frank Guyton, Sue Willingham, Betty Clark; sister-in-law, Pam Johnston, mother and father-in-law, Don and Anita Johnston.

MRS. JUDITH WRIGHT BECKER, age 73, of Roberts Street, Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at her residence following an extended illness.  Mrs. Becker was born in Ft. Payne, Alabama on December 29, 1942, a daughter of the late Rufus “Toby” and Geraldine Hall Wright.  She was a member of Dry Valley Baptist Church and retired pattern designer from Best Mfg. Company.  Mrs. Becker was preceded in death by her husband, the late James J. Becker., Sr.

        Surviving are daughter, Melody D. Becker of Trion; sons, James J. Becker and Richard W. Becker both of Summerville; sister, Mary Tripp of Trion; brother, Donald Wright of LaFayette; grandchildren, Reisha D. Hoffman, Kayleigh Becker, Josey Becker, and Kiersten Becker; great grandchildren, Kelsey Weaver and Scarlett Purvis; several Nieces and Nephews.

Ms. Debora Winifred Purcell age 60 of Summerville, GA died Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Floyd Medical Center.

Mrs. Purcell was born April 1, 1956, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late Winfred Perry and Annie Mildred Williams Purcell.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jo Wright.

Mrs. Purcell is survived by her special friend, Ken Touchstone; son and daughter-in-law, Stacey and Keisha McGuire; daughter, Tracey Alexander; sister and brothers-in-law, Diane and Charles Bryson, Fondren Wright; grandchildren, Stacey and Keisha's children, Shilah McGuire's children, Justice Wilson, Brianna Lynn, Corey Wilson, and Delany Key; great-grandchildren, Erica Alexander, Tiffany Alexander, Jessica Alexander, and John Alexander; and great-great-grandchild, Emerie Cox.

Mrs. Carrion is survived by her husband, Radames Carrion; son, Anthony Lewis; daughter, Alexandra Lewis; mother, Donna Lee Smith; and sisters, Lisa Piccinini and Raqueal Smith.
