Mrs. Sara Beth Cobb Obit (ER)

MRS. SARA BETH COBB, age 77, of Austin, Texas passed away January 24, 2016, in Austin, Texas.  A native of Trion, Georgia, She was born to the late Carl and Edith Newsome on January 29, 1938.  Sara was a graduate of Trion High School where she was homecoming queen and a beauty pageant winner.  She joyously dedicated her life to loving and caring for her family and was loved by anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

 Surviving are her husband, of 57 years, Clyde; daughters, Laura (Brad),and Carolyn (Lan); son, David (Cindy); grandchildren, Michael, Ben, Weston, Tiana, Chloe, and Atticus; sister, Celia (Jimmy).

 A memorial service will be held Friday, February 5th, at 11:00 A.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.

Mrs. Donna Marie Baty Obit (M)

Mrs. Donna Marie Baty, age 48, of Trion, GA, passed away Saturday January 30, 2016, in Redmond Regional Medical Center.
 
Mrs. Baty was born May 6, 1967, the daughter of Gloria Patricia Reid Floyd and the late Charles Lamar Floyd.  She was  a home maker, other than her father she was preceded in death by a sister, Denise Kilgore, brother, Charles Lamar Floyd, II, grandparents, Curtis Floyd, Sara “Ella Mae” Floyd, nephew, Jamie Fountain.
 
Survivors include her husband, Gerald Baty, mother, Patsy Floyd, children, Patrick Jeffery James Floyd, Cameron Baty, sister & brother-in-law, Stacy and Steven Fountain, and nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held 3:30 p.m. Monday February 1, 2016 from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Phil Minter officiating.
 
Mrs. Baty will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. Monday until the  service hour.

Mr. Robert Eugene Crane Obit (M)

Mr. Robert Eugene "Georgia Boy" Crane, age 72 of Cedar Bluff, AL passed away Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Floyd Medical Center.

Mr. Crane was born November 2, 1943 in Trion, GA to the late Dennis E. Crane and Hazel Browning Crabtree. He was a retired truck driver.

He is preceded in death by his parents; L.C. and Grace Crane, step-children; Christine, Travis, and Charles Trevor Sanders,  and brothers; Wayne and Winston Crabtree, and Eddie Crane.

Mr. Crane is survived by his loving wife; Inez Crane,  son; Robert Eugene  Crane II & wife, Teresa, daughters, Tina Whiteley& husband Mark and Gina Lynn Clark, step-daughters; Teri Tucker and Jackie Sanders, brother; Jerry Crabtree, sister; Brenda Fay Noles, 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 2 at the Mason Funeral Home Chapel  with speakers Andy Noles, Shari Duncan, and Brittany Crane. Interment will follow at Pennville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gene Noles, Dennis Noels, Jessey Hearn, Rodney Dempsey, Cody Crane, Harley Clark, Matt Butler, Dean Glenn, and Logan Adams.

Mr. Crane will lay in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Monday from 6:00-8:00 pm.

Mr. Merdie Henry Reeves obit (M)

Mr. Merdie Henry Reeves, age 89, of Summerville, GA, passed away Friday January 29, 2016. 

Mr. Reeves was born October 15, 1926, in Ft. Payne, AL, the son of the late Cleveland and Sarah Combs Reeves.  He was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills as a member of the quarter century club, and was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church where he served as treasurer, choir director, and deacon. He was preceded in death by his siblings AD, Charles, and Jay Reeves, Bobby Rosich, and Josie Kellett. 

Survivors include his loving wife of over 71 years Juanita Rogers Reeves, daughter; Betty Jean Talley, sisters; Mae Smith and Frances Peeper, grandchildren; Jeff DeBerry, Kelly Ray, April & Tracy Trammell, Lisa & Wayne Crowe, great grandchildren; Tyler DeBerry, Chance DeBerry, Justin & Krista Crowe, Haley Lloyd, Colt Trammell, great great grandchildren; Tucker, TJ, & Neiko Crowe. 

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday February 1, 2016, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Patterson and Rev. Jason Cowart officiating with interment in the West Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Eva Massey Complete Obit (ER)

MRS. EVA MASSEY, age 91, passed away Friday, January 29, 2016, in a Rome hospital.  She was born in the Oak Hill Community, Lyerly, Georgia on February 19, 1924, a daughter of the late Edwin Lumpkin and Lela Addie Holt Harrison.  She was a member of Menlo First Baptist Church.  Mrs. Massey, and her husband, operated a grocery and general merchandise store in Menlo for also most 50 years.  She especially enjoyed offering her customers quality flowers and shrubs for planting each spring, and stocked a selection of country cabinets; she also was a beekeeper and was known for providing sourwood honey in the store.  Mrs. Massey was a devoted wife, supporting her Husband in various endeavors including establishing a family farm.  She and her husband were staunch supporters of Menlo Elementary School.  She was a lifelong Democrat, encouraging numerous friends to take an active part in government at all levels; receiving the 1999 Democrat of the Year Award and was inducted into the Democratic Hall of Fame in 2011.  Mrs. Massey was preceded in death by her husband, of 64 years, the late LeRoy Massey on June 16, 2003 and a sister, the late Betty H. Smith on December 9, 2015, brothers, Herman “Shorty” Harrison and Henry Harrison.

Surviving are daughter, Barbara Massey Reece and son, Charles Edwin Massey and Jerri, all of Menlo; grandchildren, Kelly Reece Floyd & Jeff, Vanessa Massey, Lee Massey, and C.E. Massey; great grandchildren, Leighanne Floyd, Grace Floyd, Sophia Floyd, Noah Floyd, Jesse Floyd, Zaidee Moore, and Sammy Moore; sister-in-law, Frances Seymore; brother-in-law, Leonard E. Smith; several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 1st, at 2 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, with Rev. Kenny Roach and Rev. Mrs. Martha Elizabeth “Mattie Beth” Cordle Obit (M)

Mrs. Martha Elizabeth "Mattie Beth" Cordle, age 92, of Summerville, GA, died Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Cordle was born May 6, 1923, at home on Little Sand Mountain, GA, the youngest daughter of the late Joseph Pinkney Cordle and Avis Victoria Warren Cordle.  She attended school at Armuchee School and Gore School, and worked in the Trion Glove Mill in the 1930's.  She married W. H. "Nub" Cordle in 1941, and they enjoyed 60 years together before Nub's death in 2001.  During those years, she worked as a homemaker, a child care keeper for children of several families, and later for the Chattooga Head Start Day Care in Summerville and in Holland.  She resided at Ellenburg Subdivision for 45 years and enjoyed the friendship of her good neighbors during that time.  She was a member of the Old Armuchee Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry "Nub" Cordle; siblings, Ennis and Turner Cordle, Lena Mae Selman, and Addie Lou Pledger.

Mrs. Cordle is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Alice Cordle; daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Bill Williams; and grandchildren, Asa Cordle , Stephen Williams,, and Terry Morrow; special niece, Judy Spurgeon.  Several other nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Cordle will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 30, 2016, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Scoggins officiating.  Interment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens.  Honorary pallbearers will be the staff and employees of  Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Mrs. Cordle will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family willreceive friends from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service on Saturday.

Adams; daughters, Angela Adams, Michele Jones, Angela Hall, Densie Ruckers; sons, Anthony L. Adams,  & Michael Jones; two sisters Ocie Hudson, & Nancy Allen; aunt Phyllis Mosley; a very special niece, Wendy Martin; 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Wendy Michelle Stoker Blackmon, age 42, of Madison, AL, went to be with the Lord Saturday,  January 23, 2016, at Huntsville Hospital.
 
Mrs. Blackmon was born May 14, 1973, in Rome, GA, daughter of James Michael and Sarah Anna Blackwell Stoker.  She was a member of the Cross Pointe Church in Madison, AL.  She was also a homemaker and had been employed with the Fairfax County Public Schools.  Wendy was an amazing mother, wife, and friend.  She's touched many people's lives, and had angel wings made of gold.  Mrs. Blackmon was preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Sarah Blackwell; uncles, Ralph Blackwell, Tommy Blackwell, Ronald Blackwell, Bill Blackwell, Robert Prather, and Dennis Stoker.
 
Mrs. Blackmon is survived by her husband, Jeffery Lorne Blackmon; sons, Kenneth Wayne Hogue, Jr., Michael Tyler Hogue, and Jeffery Bryan Blackmon; a daughter, Amber Michelle Blackmon; parents, James Michael and Sarah Anna Blackwell Stoker; and grandparents, James H. Stoker and
Alice Pauline Stoker.
