Mrs. Mildred Estelle Cooper Obit (M)

Mrs. Mildred Estelle Cooper, age 87, of Summerville, GA, died Monday, January 25, 2016, at her residence.
 
Mrs. Cooper was born March 8, 1928, in Jamestown, AL, daughter of the late James Luther "Jim" and Julie Ann Dearing Tucker.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Chelsea Baptist Church.  She raised five children whom she loved dearly.  Mrs. Cooper was an avid gardener, seamstress, and cook, and she was a frequent visitor of Trade Day.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Mack Cooper; brothers, Lewis Tucker, Bobbie Purcell, and Walter Tucker; and a sister, Ruth Lemming.
 
Mrs. Cooper is survived by her husband of almost 70 years, Paul Mack Cooper; sons, James David Cooper and Paul A. Cooper; daughters, JoAnn Stowe and Nancy Tapp; brothers, Tom Tucker and Jackie Tucker; sisters, Annie Mae Jennings, Mary Jo Guffey, and Glenda Gass; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
 
Funeral services for Mrs. Cooper will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 28, 2016, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Shores and Rev. Mike Odom officiating.  Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Don Lemming, Willie Elmer Tapp, Benjamin Martinez, Frank Lemming, Jamey Cooper, Tracy Barksdale, and Dwayne Hampton.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Staff of Hearth Hospice, the Women's Sunday School Class of Chelsea Baptist Church, Prime Care C.N.A.'s Tracy and Mary, and Joe Lemming.
 
Mrs. Cooper will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 27, 2016.

Miss. Kathleen Poovey Obit (M)

Miss. Kathleen Poovey, age 92, of Lyerly, GA, passed away Friday January 22, 2016, in Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Miss. Poovey was born May 2, 1923, in Gaylesville, AL, the daughter of the late Carl Smith Poovey and June Little Poovey.  She was retired from Best Mfg, a member of the Sardis Baptist Church and preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy June Poovey.

Survivors include her sister, Mabel Poovey, Lyerly, GA, brother, Cecil and Jane Poovey, Centre, AL, niece and nephew, Cecilia and Dion Hudson, Mark Alan Poovey.

Funeral service will be  held 2:00 p.m. Monday January 25, 2016, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dewayne Teague officiating with interment in the Lyerly Cemetery.

Mrs. Katherine Echols Camp Obit (ER)

MRS. KATHERINE L. ECHOLS CAMP, age 87, of Perennial Springs Road, Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, January 22, 2016, in the local Nursing Home. She was born, October 16, 1928, living  her entire life on the family property in the Perennial Springs Community of Chattooga County, Georgia. She was a daughter of the late Charles Richard (Charlie) Echols, Sr. and the late Mary Berry Echols.  Mrs. Camp taught school for two years during WW II and was the Office Manager of Echols Appliance over 65 years.  She served on the Chattooga Democratic Committee for over 50 years and was a member of the Perennial Springs Baptist Church.  Mrs. Camp was preceded in death by her husband, the late Roy Fayette Camp and a daughter, the late Mary Katherine Camp Bullard.
            Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Caroline and Chuck Harris; son-in-law, Steve Bullard; granddaughter and grandson, Charlie and Sam Bullard; granddaughter, Marti Green; great grandsons, Camp Bullard and Cooper Bullard; special niece, Honey Housch; several Nieces and Nephews.
            Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 24th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Alton Stamey officiating, interment in the family plot of Perennial Springs Cemetery.  Active Pallbearers Richard Echols, Greg Echols, Jim Echols, Erick Housch, Ben Housch, and Marty Green; Honorary Pallbearers special care givers, Opal Deering and Mary Rape, the ladies Sunday School Class of Perennial Springs Baptist Church, and the Staff of Oak View Nursing & Rehab. Mr.James Thomas McGraw obit (M)

Mr. James Thomas “Tommy” McGraw, age 72, of Lyerly, GA, died Thursday, January 21, 2016 at his home.

Mr. McGraw was born March 29, 1943 in Berryton, GA, the son of the late Andrew McGraw and Annie Mitchell McGraw.  He was retired from Mohawk Industries after 43 years.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Francis Beason and Dorothy Saylors; grandchildren, Kelsey and Jeffrey McGraw. 

Mr. McGraw is survived by his wife, Joyce McGraw; daughter, Terri McGraw Blair; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Pam McGraw, and Jeff and Susan McGraw; sisters, Rosa Nell Trammell and Jean Crabtree; brother, A. J. McGraw; 7 Grandchildren; and 7 Great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charles Bishop and Rev. Brandon Bishop officiating.  Burial will follow in Lyerly Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be William Lewis, Don Trammell, Doug Tudor, Kevin Scoggins, Virgil Tudor, Joe Reed, Jeff Ratliff, and Allan Trammell.

Mr. Jay William Shore Obit (ER)

MR. JAY WILLIAM SHORE, age 76, of Trion, Georgia passed away Thursday evening, January 21, 2016, in a Rome hospital.  A native of New York, New York, He was born to the late Hyman and Melba Jacobs Shore on April 26, 1939.  Mr. Shore was a member of the Highway 27 South Church of Christ, LaFayette, Georgia and was retired from the U. S. Navy after 20 years of service, the last four years a Submariner on the USS Von Steisben.  He was preceded in death by a grandson, the late Jonathan Shore.
Surviving are His wife, Ellie Shore; daughter, Sarah Shore of Summerville; sons, John Bohannon of Atlanta and Casey Bohannon of Grand Rapids,MI, Davis Bohannon of Trion; brother, Murray Shore of New York;  grandchildren, Mary Shore, Jeyda Bohannon, Alex Bohannon, Tylan Bohannon, Shawn Bohanon and Justin Bohannon; several Nieces and Nephews also survive. 
 
Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 23rd, at 4:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Ministers Daniel Curtis and Mark Hogan officiating, interment in Chattanooga National Cemetery.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Men of the Highway 27 South Church of Christ.  The Family will receive friends Saturday at the Funeral Home from 2 P. Mr. James Michael Nicholson Sr. Obit (ER)Correction

MR. JAMES MICHAEL NICHOLSON, SR., age 54, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016, in a Rome hospital.  Mr. Nicholson was born February 19, 1961 in Spain, while his father was in service, a son of the late Jimmy Mack Nicholson and the late Dorothy Kitchens Nicholson Johnson.  He was an electrician for Triad Electric in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a member of IBEW Local #175, a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp #507, and served in the U. S. Navy for four years.

Surviving are wife-Jelena Nicholson; daughter-Sarah E. (Andrew) Watson of Rome; son-James Michael (Brittney) Nicholson, Jr. of Summerville; grandchildren-Molly Nicholson and Jet Johnson; sisters-P. J. Guthrie of Sarasota, FL. and Amy Johnson Parker of Calhoun; brother-Doug Nicholson of Kennesaw; step sister-Sandra Bockley of Atlanta; step brother-Randy Johnson of Atlanta; several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 21st, at 6 P.M. from the J. D. Mrs. Mildred Irene Taylor, age 86, of Trion, GA died Wednesday, January
20, 2016 at Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
 
Mrs. Taylor was born March 4, 1929 in Chatsworth, GA, the daughter of the
late John and Julie Hughes Gossett.  She was a homemaker and a member of
Trion Heights Baptist Church.  Other than her parents, she was preceded in
death by her husband, W. P. “Doc” Taylor; and a daughter, Martha Sue Butler.
 
Mrs. Taylor is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and Davey Sweet,
and Tammy and Kenny Ledford; son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Debra
Taylor: 7 Grandchildren; and 17 Great Grandchildren.
 
Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p. m. Friday, January 22, 2016 at Mason
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Elliott officiating.  Burial will follow in

Mr. Joe David Reynolds, age 70, of Lyerly, GA, died Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at Redmond Regional Medical Center.
 
Mr. Reynolds was born March 3, 1945, in Lyerly, GA, son of the late Lonnie Lee Reynolds and Alice Ragland Reynolds.  He was a member of the New Hope South Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, had worked with I.T.T. Lester and Mohawk Industries.  Mr. Reynolds was also a veteran of the United States Air Force.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Claude Reynolds; and sisters, Ruby Lecroy and Maxine Lee.
 
Mr. Reynolds is survived by his wife, Joyce Reynolds; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Janet Reynolds; daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Bill Bandy, Emily and Jim Ciavarro; brothers, Leric Reynolds, Bob Reynolds, Raymond Reynolds, and Cecil Reynolds; grandchildren, Autumn Bandy, Ansley Bandy, Allie Bandy, Nathan Reynolds, and Hannah  Reynolds.

Arthur Watkins and Betty Miller Watkins.  He was a self-employed truck driver.
 
Mr. Watkins was a veteran of the United States Army.  Other than his parents, he
 
was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Watkins and Andrew Watkins.
 
Survivors include a sister, Carolyn Ruth Autry; and a brother and sister-in-law,
 
Ronnie and Gladys Watkins.
