Mr. Earl Clint Barfield Obit (C)

Mr. Earl Clint Barfield, age 88, of Rome, formerly of Trion, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2015 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center. 

Mr. Barfield was born in Trion, Georgia on February 18, 1927, son of the late Clifford Ray Barfield and Neva Price Barfield.  He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps.  He retired from GE in Rome in 1992, but had previously worked at Riegel Manufacturing.  Mr. Barfield was a member of the American Legion and the VFW here in Summerville, and loved to play Poker, Slot Machines, Pool and bowl, and was an avid fisher.  He was a true family man and loved spending time with his kids and grandchildren.  Mr. Barfield was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Barfield; former wife, Betty Anne Adams; and two brothers, Kelly Barfield and James “Slats” Barfield. 

Mr. Barfield is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy Marquez Whitaker and her husband, Dwayne and Trisha and Joe Bice; grandchildren, Laney Marquez Dyson, Casei Jordan Burkhalter and Preston Lee Barfield; great grandchildren, Taylor Grace Dyson, Chloe Anne Burkalter and Charlotte Corrine Burkhalter; nieces, Jan Morris, Elaine Hammond and Raye Dean Mahoney; and one great niece, Christy Hammond. 

Funeral Services for Mr. Barfield will be held Monday, January 4, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. David Hayes and Rev. Valerie Loner officiating.  Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery with the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion Honor Guard conducting Military Graveside Rites. 

Pallbearers will be Joe Bice, Dwayne Whitaker, Preston Barfield, Colton Burkhalter, Joey Price, Randy Pauley and Tim Mahoney. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Summerville American Legion and VFW Post, as well as members of the Ladies’ Auxiliary. 

Mr. Barfield will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Monday from 12:00 Noon until the funeral hour.

Ms. Lola M. Evans, age 78, of 251 State St. in Summerville, Ga. transitioned December 29, 2015.  Celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 2, 2016 at New Bethel Baptist Church, 200 Congress St., Summerville, GA at 2:00 pm.  The body will lie in state from 12 noon until the funeral hour. Mrs. Gevetta U. Samples obit (ER)

 MRS. GEVETTA U. SAMPLES, age 48, of Rocky Hollow Road, Summerville, Georgia passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, December 30, 2015, evening in a Rome hospital.  She was born on April 28, 1967, to the late C. D. “Tiney” Long, Jr. and Judy Jackson Long, who survives.  She was active in the family business, Judy’s Herb Shop, in Summerville and a member of Freedom Tabernacle.
            Surviving are Her husband, James Samples; Mother, Judy Long; daughter, Charletta Samples; granddaughter, Iris Lillie Samples; sisters, Melissa (Thomas) Hamilton and Retta (Stephen) Sprayberry of Summerville; brothers, Danny (Jean) Hester of Trion, Charles Daniel (Donna) Long, III, and LeBron (Corrinna) Long of Summerville; step children, Randy Pritchard, Julie Gow, Gary Pritchard, David Pritchard, Jennifer Sullivan, Marcie Samples; several Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins also survive.
            Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 3rd at 2 p.m. from the Freedom Tabernacle with Pastor David Reeves and LeBron Long officiating, interment in Greenhills Memory Garden. Mr. Johnny Abernathy obit (Perry )

Mr. Johnny Abernathy, age 66, of Piedmont, passed away Monday December 28th at his residence. 

Graveside service will be 1 P.M. (EST) Thursday, December 31st at Lyerly Cemetery, with Steve Morgan officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 PM to 8 PM Wednesday at Perry Funeral Home. 

Survivors include his wife Elaine Morgan Abernathy; daughter Janice Welsh of Piedmont; Sister Betty Harrelson of Berryton, GA; grandchildren Michelle Parris, April Westbrook, Christi Bishop, Greg Welsh; great granddaughter Serenity Parris. Special friends Perk Schrader, Jerry Wilson, Richard Echols. 

Mr. Abernathy was a native of Dekalb County, and the son of the late Sebie and Bertha Mae Schrader Abernathy.

Mr. Earl Gene Wilbanks obit (C)

Mr. Earl Gene “Pop” Wilbanks, age 80, of Trion, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center. 

Mr. Wilbanks was born in Trion, Georgia on January 6, 1935, son of the late Charles Herman Wilbanks and Lily Maxwell Wilbanks.  He was an avid outdoorsman that loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed the sport of Archery.  Mr. Wilbanks was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills, where he was a loom technician for over 40 years.  Following retirement, he worked on the side installing chain link fencing, but also worked as a Custodian with Trion City Schools for over 10 years.  He was a member of the Quarter Century Club.  Mr. Wilbanks was preceded in death by a brother, Herman “Bud” Wilbanks and sisters, Helen Williamson Ann Elliott and Frances Spraggins. 

Mr. Wilbanks is survived by his wife, Nellie Wilbanks; daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Wes Armstrong; two grandchildren, Sean Claire and Seth Claire; and a number of nieces and nephews. 

Graveside and Interment services for Mr. Wilbanks will be held Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in the Howell Cemetery with Mr. Johnny Todd officiating. 

Pallbearers will be Sean Claire, Seth Claire, John Wilson, Mike Hegwood, Keith Spraggins and Charles Oliver.

Mr. George Paul Treadaway obit (ER)

MR. GEORGE PAUL TREADAWAY, age 64, of Allen Street, Summerville, Georgia passed away unexpectedly Monday, December 28, 2015, near Calhoun, Georgia.  A native of Trion, Georgia, he was born to the late Lee Riley and Flora Grace Parker Treadaway, on March 13, 1951.  Mr. Treadaway was a Trion High School graduate, served during peacetime in the U. S. Air Force, and before retirement worked for Auto Zone; He was also a member of the Gaylesville First Baptist Church.

        Surviving are companion, Rhoda Howell of Summerville; daughter & son-in-law, Dana & Ivan Holden; grandchildren, LeAnn Holden and Levin Holden all of Taylorsville, GA.

        Funeral services will held Thursday, December 31st, at 3 p.m. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, with Rev. Chris Nixon officiating and a poem by Dana Holden, His daughter, interment in West Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1 until the hour of service Thursday at the funeral home.  Pallbearers will be Ivan Holden, Melvin Parker, Kenneth Parker, Allen Sanders, Ed Parker, Neal Shropshire, Steve Pledger, and Levi Holden.

Miss MaKayla Gail Hope Sims obit (M)

Little Miss MaKayla Gail Hope Sims, infant daughter of Christopher Jay Sims and Crystal MaKayla Geer, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015, at Northside Hospital. 

MaKayla was born December 8, 2015, at Northside Hospital.  She is survived by her parents, Christopher Jay Sims and Crystal MaKayla Geer; brothers, Christian Sims and Brantlee Sims; grandparents, Darlene Geer, Jamey and Michelle Geer, Gary and Marcy Sims, Nancy and Terry Sneed; great-grandparents, Betty Rhymer, Wendall McClure, Bonnie Woodfin, Shoshannah Blalock, Jeffery Blalock, and Charles Gary Sims, Sr.  Several aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive. 

Funeral services for Little Miss Sims will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 29, 2015, from the City of Praise Worship Center in Cartersville, GA, with Pastor Jeff Phillips officiating.  Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Christopher Sims and Brandon Geer. 

Little Miss Sims will be in state at the City of Praise Worship Center and the family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service on Tuesday.

Mrs. Wanda Josephine Watson Obit (C)

Mrs. Wanda Josephine “Bobbie” Watson, age 82 of Trion, Georgia, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015 at the Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. 

Mrs. Watson was born in Madisonville, Tennessee on March 23, 1933, daughter of the late Harvey Watson and Mary Crowder Watson.  She was a member of the Trion First Baptist Church and prior to retirement, was employed with Mount Vernon Mills for over 35 years.  Mrs. Watson loved to travel, play bingo and spending time with her family and friends, and was well known for her years as a hostess at the Round Table.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by two brothers, Osben Watson and R.C. Watson; and three sisters, Evelyn Bailey, Ocie Stakely and Ersa Yearwood. 

Mrs. Watson is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Michael Tinney; brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Emma Watson; sisters, Ethelyne Murr and Peggy Holland; grandchildren, Taylor Tinney, Shane Tinney and Tiffany Bean; special niece, Patti Bailey, as well as a number of additional nieces and nephews. 

Memorial Services for Mrs. Watson will be held Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Rickey Biddle officiating.  Private Interment will follow at a later date in Pikeville, Tennessee. 

The family of Mrs. Watson will gather at the Coffamn Funeral Home on Tuesday afternoon and will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.

Ms. Helen Ruth Youngblood Vine, age 88, of Summerville, GA, passed away Thursday December 24, 2015, at her residence.

Ms. Vine was born November 14, 1927, in Dalton, GA, the daughter of the late Tom and Hettie England Youngblood.  She was retired from Peterson Farms, a member of the Chesterfield Baptist Church, and preceded in death by a daughter, Jackie Sammons, grandson, Chad Thompson, granddaughters, Tracy Honeycutt, Wendy Riley, 1 sister and 4 brothers. 

Survivors include sons & daughter-in-law, Buddy Purcell, William & Doria Purcell, daughters & sons-in-law, Linda & Harley Lawson, Charlotte & Thomas Flood, Wanda & Wayman Styles, Dorothy Thompson, Debra McCary, 23 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren. 

Graveside Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday December 30, 2015,  in the family lot at AMI cemetery, with Rev. Greg Ledford and Rev. Steve Bishop officiating.

Minister Forrest Clyde Thompson Obit (M)

Minister Forrest Clyde Thompson, age 87, of Mentone, AL, passed away Thursday December 24, 2015, at his residence.
Rev. Thompson was born May 26, 1928, in Cedartown, GA, the son of E.C. and Hattie Anderson Thompson.  He was an ordained Minister of the Congregational Methodist Church, a graduate of Westminister Bible College, Tehuacana, TX, was a pastor in TX, FL, & GA, taught Sunday school for 11 years at the Ider Church of God, was a leading sales agent for Liberty National Life Insurance for 21 years, served in the US Army, and never retired from the ministry.
 
Survivors include his wife, Annie Sue Blevins Thompson, sons &s daughters-in-law, Ricky F & Trang Thompson, Mark & Sally Thompson, daughters & sons-in-law, Delilia & Neal Seagler, Sherry & Terry Dobson, Shelia & Mike Adams, step children, Paul Averett, Samantha Chambers, sister & brother-in-law, Patricia & Charles Williams, brothers and sisters-in-law, Ernest & Molly Thompson, Arvil & Betty Thompson, William & Nellie Thompson, 14 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren.
