Mr. Charles Meredith Tutton, Jr. Obit (ER)

MR. CHARLES MEREDITH TUTTON, JR., age 83, of Goodwin Drive, Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, May 30, 2015, at his residence. He was a son of the late C. M. Tutton, Sr. and the late Ola H. Herring Tutton. Mr. Tutton was a Veteran of Korea serving in the U. S. Navy, a member of American Legion Post #129, V.F.W. Post #6688, and a member of Chattooga Lodge #704 F & AM. He was a partner in the former Tutton Auto Parts Company. Mr. Tutton was preceded in death by his wife, the late Toni Woods Tutton on August 22, 2014.

Surviving are sons-Charles Randall Tutton of New Zeland and William Meredith “Bill” Tutton of Summerville; grandchildren, Nicholas Tutton and Natalie Tutton; sister, Martha Ballenger of Summerville.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at 1:00 P.M. from Graveside in Lyerly Cemertery with Mr. Sam Finster officiating. The Family request no flowers and suggest contributions to the Hope Rebirth Homeless Shelter #50 Eleanor Avenue, Summerville, Georgia.

Mrs. Vesta Marie Grindstaff Obit (ER)

MRS. VESTA MARIE GRINDSTAFF, age 87, of Longhollow Road, Trion, Georgia passed away Sunday, May 31, 2015, from injuries received in an automobile accident, near Trion. She was born to, the late Grover Cleveland and Mary Meisenhelter Gould, on December 28, 1927 in Joplin, Missouri. Ms. Vesta was a retired medical records technician for Ozark Mental Health, and a member of Summerville First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late James A. Grindstaff, Jr., two Sisters, and three Brothers.

Survivors include son & spouse, Jim and Patti Grindstaff of Trion; grandsons and spouses, James IV & Melissa Grindstaff and Jada Ryan & Cheryl Grindstaff; great grandchildren, Jackson, Nolen, Allison, and Wyatt Grindstaff; several Nieces and Nephews also survive. 

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 3rd, at 3:00 P.M. from the Summerville First United Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Pinson officiating, interment in Pine Knoll Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Sheriff Mark Schrader, Chief Jason Kellett, Commissioner Jason Winters, Ricky Hughes, Honorary Pallbearers, the Triangle Sunday School Class of Summerville First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 P. M. until the hour of service at the Church.

Mr. Charles Clifford Wilson Obit (M)

Mr. Charles Clifford Wilson, age 81, of Breman, GA, died Tuesday, May 26, 2015

in Haralson Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

 

Mr. Wilson was born June 12, 1933 in Smyrna, GA, the son of the late Richard

Dewey Wilson and Hattie Sue Butler Wilson.  He was retired from Overnite

Trucking.  Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise

Tudor Wilson.

 

Survivors include a sister, Martha Sue Cox; and brothers, John Lewis Wilson and

Richard “R D” Wilson, JR.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Fisher Chapel

with Rev. Art Graves officiating.  Burial will follow in Fisher Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Beggs, Bryan Bracewell, Andy Tudor, Andy Narmore,

Edward Tudor, Johnny Camp, and Randy Wilson.

 

Mr. Wilson will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive

at Fisher Chapel from 10:00 AM until the service hour on Saturday.

Mrs. Maggie Kathleen McGill Obit (M)

Mrs. Maggie Kathleen McGill, age 83, of Menlo, GA, passed away Wednesday May 20, 2015, in Riverside Medical Center Franklinton, LA.
 
Mrs. McGill was born September 16, 1931, in LaFayette, GA, the daughter of the late Lester and Jewell Slayton Amos.  She was a member of the Faith Baptist Church and was retired from the Summerville School Lunch Room.  Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert L. McGill.
 
Survivors include a son, Robert L McGill, III, daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Billy Sumrall, 3 grandchildren, Harley Sumrall, Megan Walker, and Jordan Sumrall.
 
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Wilborn officiating. Interment will follow in the LaFayette City Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Nephews.

Mr. Donald Lee Bearden, age 57, of Summerville, GA, passed away Saturday May 23, 2015, at his residence.

Mr. Bearden was born January 5, 1958, in Rome, GA, the son of the late D.A. and Sarah Ruth Rollins Bearden.  He was  employed with Frank Bearden Logging.

Survivors include his children, Donavaughn Bearden, Maekayla Bearden, sister, Virginia Stratton, brothers and  sister-in-law, Frank & Darlene Bearden, Jim Bearden, grandchildren, Gavin, Alexis, Emarie, and Rhylin Bearden.

 MR. J. HAROLD JACKSON, SR., age 91, of Woodhaven Drive, Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, May 22, 2015, morning at his residence. Native to Carrollton, Georgia He was born to the late A. E. and Lois Bagwell Jackson on December 1, 1923. Mr. Jackson, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, was retired auto dealer, along with his father and late brother, Alton, owned and operated the former Jackson Chevrolet-Oldsmobile Dealership, in Summerville. He was a veteran of WW II, having served in the U. S. Navy, and was a member and deacon of the Summerville First Baptist Church, and a member of the Baraca Sunday School Class.


Surviving are His wife, Martha Sue Robbins Jackson; sons, Jamey Jackson of Atlanta, John Jackson of Marietta, and Joseph Jackson of Summerville/LaFayette; grandchildren, Katie & Ben Hill, Sarah Jackson, Dylan Jackson, Ethan Jackson, and Brooklyn Jackson; great grandson, Jackson Hill.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 24th, at 3:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, with Dr. David Hunter officiating, eulogy by Mr. John Jackson. Mr. James Louis Haney Jr Obit (M)

Mr. James Louis Haney, Jr., age 67, of Summerville, GA, died Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at his residence.
 
Mr. Haney was born May 26, 1947, in Valley Head, AL, son of the late James Louis Haney and Betty Jo Wofford Haney.  He was Baptist by faith, and prior to his retirement, was employed with Roper Corporation. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., Sons of the American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans.  Mr. Haney was also a member of the Free and Accepted Masons as well as a Shriner.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Carl David Haney, and a sister, Pamela Joyce Haney.
 
Mr. Haney is survived by his son, Mark Lee; daughters, Lacey Haney, Shannon Haney Ball, Eydie Rowland, Karen Broome, and Beth Pressley; a sister, Brenda Grogan; grandchildren, Clay Haney and Alex Helton.
 
Funeral services for Mr. Haney will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, May 24, 2015, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Holman officiating.  Interment will follow in the AMI Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 Honor Guard of the American Legion.  Active pallbearers will be Mikey Willingham, Clay Haney, Austin Rowland, Aaron Rowland, Billy Willingham, Dillion Sims, and Zack McGuire.  Honorary pallbearers will be the Staff of Amedisys Home Health and all members of the Chattooga County Memorial Home.

Mrs. Edna “Granny” Swanson Obit (ER)

Mrs. Edna “Granny” Swanson, age 82 of Summerville, GA, passed away Wednesday morning, May 20, 2015 in a Rome Nursing Home. Mrs. Swanson was born on April 19, 1933, a daughter of the late Andrew Andy and Etta Mae Westbrooks Campbell. Mrs. Swanson was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, the late Rev. C. L. Swanson on Aug. 19, 1997; a son the late Clarence Eugene Swanson; Sister- Annie Ruth Davis; Brothers- Clifford Campbell, Gerald Campbell and Ray Campbell. Mrs. Swanson was retired from The Defenders of Mount Vernon Mills.

Surviving are daughter: Lisa Gilliland of Rome; Grandchildren: Amber Peace and Emily Peace; Great Grandchildren: Cameron Dowdy and Aubrey Dowdy. Several nieces and nephews also survive. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 1:30 P. M. from graveside in Greenhills Memory Gardens with Rev. Ricky Biddle officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 A. M. until 1:00 P. M. at Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.

Ms. Carolyn “Caddy” Marie Callaway Obit (M)

Ms. Carolyn “Caddy” Marie Callaway, age 60, of Gaylesville, AL, died Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at Floyd Medical Center.
 
Ms. Callaway was born July 11, 1954, in Trion, GA, the daughter of Bonnie Callaway and the late James Callaway.  She was a supervisor for the Operation Department at Mount Vernon Mills where she was employed for 41 years.  She was a member of the Mill Creek Baptist Church.
 
Ms. Callaway is survived by her daughter, Christie Selman (Brad Hurley); mother, Bonnie Callaway; brother, Jimmy Callaway; and granddaughters, Angelina Sims and Anna Beth Hurley.
 
Funeral services for Ms. Callaway will be held at 4:00 P.M. Thursday, May 21, 2015, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charlie Long officiating.  Interment will follow in the Johnson Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be John Johnson, Jerrett Lambert, Daniel Laney, Douglas Spivey, Bobby Millican, and Mark Stoker.  Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Wiggley and the Employees of Mount Vernon Mills.
