Mrs. Sarah Lee Smith Obit (M) Comp

Mrs. Sarah Lee Smith, age 76, of Gaylesville, AL, died Sunday, May 17, 2015, at her residence.

 

Mrs. Smith was born February 20, 1939, in Cherokee County, AL, daughter of the late Herschel Renfroe Van Pelt and Nora Lee Lewis Van Pelt.  She was a member of the Blanche United Methodist Church, and prior to her retirement, she was employed as a Librarian with the Cobb County School System.

 

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, William Maurice Smith; sons, Michael Smith, Mark Smith, and Lee Smith; brothers, Dow Van Pelt and Lewis Van Pelt; a sister, Gayle Johnson; 5 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be held at 12:00 Noon (E.S.T.) Thursday, May 21, 2015, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Dow Van Pelt officiating.  Interment will follow in the Van Pelt Family Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Blake Smith, Andrew Smith, Patrick Smith, Paul Van Pelt, Daniel Johnson, and Colton Johnson.  Savannah Smith will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

 

Mrs. Smith will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) Wednesday, May 20, 2015.  She will also be in state from 11:00 A.M. (E.S.T.) until the hour of service on Thursday.

Mr. Carliss Leroy Buice Obit (ER)

Mr. Carliss Leroy Buice passed away on Sunday morning, May 17. He was 76 years old.
He is preceded in death by his parents Carliss and Lenora Buice and is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jo, and their three children: Mrs. Sonya Stallings (Bruce), Jake, Kit, Ben and Mary, Birmingham, AL.; Dr. Shawn Buice (Gloria), Shawn Jr., Nicole, Francina and Laura, Malone, FL.; and, Mr. Scottie Buice (Paula), Tyler, Lance, and Nathan Schuster, Summerville, GA. He is also survived by his brother Mr. Gary Buice (Janice) and Austin, Taylors, SC.; Eleven Grandchildren.
Mr. Buice was born in Calhoun, GA, and grew up in Trion, GA where he was active in several sports. After High School, he served our country in the Navy. He was employed by Max Jones Insurance Agency in Summerville, GA, where he eventually became an owner in Jones and Buice Insurance Agency. Leroy was very active in youth recreational sports. He also enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Trion and LaFayette Golf Clubs. His favorite thing was spending time with his family. He was an active Deacon at Summerville First Baptist, where he also served as the Deacon Chairman, Church Treasurer and assistant teacher of the Seekers Sunday School class.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 21st, at 4:00 P.M. from the Summerville First Baptist Church with Dr. Shawn Buice, Rev. Bruce Stallings, and Rev. Doyle Waters officiating, entombment in Greenhills Memory Garden. Active Pallbearers Tyler Buice, Jake Stallings, Shawn Buice, Jr., Lance Buice, Ben Stallings, and Nathan Schuster; Honorary Pallbearers, all Active and Inactive Deacons of Summerville First Baptist Church. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 P.M. until the hour of service at the Church. The Family requests no flowers and suggests contributions to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Lottie Moon Missions.

Mr. Elbert “Buck” Morgan Obit (M)

Mr. Elbert “Buck” Morgan, age 82, of Menlo, GA, passed away Saturday May 16, 2015, in Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Morgan was born May 23, 1932, in Leesburg, AL, the son of the late Emmett and Eunice Morgan.  He was a well known businessman, and used car dealer for over 50 years, he loved trading, buying and selling numerous things.  He also loved riding motorcycles and going for wagon rides with his mules.  He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Jeffery Morgan, brother, Alvis Morgan.

Survivors include his former wife  and mother of his children, Lois Winters, sons and daughter-in-law,  Wayne and Jane Morgan,  David Morgan, daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and William Hughes, grandsons, Tommy Morgan, Kyle Hughes, granddaughter, Cindy Morgan, great-grandchildren, Wes Blackmon, Taylor Ozment, Krista Ozment, Alexis Hughes, Tara Morgan, niece, Janice Morgan Boyd.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday May 19, 2015 from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mr. Herman “Bud” Wilbanks Obit (C)

Herman “Bud” Wilbanks, age 82 of Trion, GA passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015 at his residence.  Mr. Wilbanks was born in Trion, GA on July 18, 1932, son of the late Charles Herman and Lily Maxwell Wilbanks.  He was a member of the Waterville Baptist Church.   Other than his parents he was preceded in death by a son, James Ray Wilbanks; great-grandson Grant Taylor; 3 sisters, Helen Williamson, Frances Spraggins, and Ann Elliott.

 Mr. Wilbanks was retired from Mount Vernon Mills and Trion City Schools.  He was a loving Husband, Daddy, and PaPaw.  He was a carpenter by trade and could look at anything and build it.  He enjoyed playing golf, but more than anything he loved spending time with his family and loved raising and playing with his animals.

Mr. Wilbanks is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Margaret Phillips Wilbanks; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Wanda Wilbanks; daughters and son-in-law, Linda and Stan Rosser and Sheila Wilbanks; grandchildren, Michelle and D. J. Driver, Mandy and Todd Taylor, J. R. and Ashley Wilbanks, Zachary and Christin Rosser, and Valerie Rosser; great-grandchildren, Maverik Powell, Morgan Driver, Kaylee Driver, and Oakley Taylor; brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Nellie Wilbanks; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty Brinkley and Marlene and Winston Renfroe; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. from the Petitt Chapel of Coffman Funeral Home with Pastor Sam Barrettt officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Garden.

Mr. Wilbanks will lie-in-state on Saturday, May 16, 2015 where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mrs. Helen Wiggins Ludy, age 74, of Summerville, GA, died Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at her residence.
 
Mrs. Ludy was born August 30, 1940, in Holland, GA, daughter of the late Oben Perry and Flonnie Wiggins.  She was a member of the Pond Springs AME Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Georgia Glove Mill.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Ludy.
 
Mrs. Ludy is survived by her son, William L. Ludy III; daughters, Charlene Draper, Paula Wiggins, and Terra Ludy; brothers, Harold Wiggins, Jerome Wiggins, and Gregory Wiggins; and 9 grandchildren.
 
Funeral services for Mrs. Ludy will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, May 16, 2015, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Jerry Taylor officiating.  Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery.

Mrs. Shirley Hutchins Obit (ER)

MS. SHIRLEY YVONNE WOFFORD HUTCHINS, age 80, of Summerville, Georgia, was welcomed to heaven Tuesday, May 12, 2015, following a lengthy illness, surrounded by family and friends at her bedside. She was born March 2, 1935 in LaFayette, Georgia. She was a daughter of the late Ernest I.V. Wofford and Ruby Nations Wofford. Ms. Hutchins was a member of the Summerville Pentecostal Worship Center and was retired from machine operator for Mohawk Industries. She excelled in creative and artistic design: floral arrangements, ceramics, and the culinary arts. She was gifted with a beautiful voice as she continued to sing until moments before her passing.

Survivors include daughter & son-in-law, Judy and Ricky Woods; son & daughter-in-law, Pastor Andy and Dorothy Hutchins both of Summerville; sister, Ernestine Scoggins of Rossville; brother, Robert Wofford of Summerville; Four grandchildren, Todd Woods, Kevin Woods, Bryn Hutchins, and Ty Hutchins all of Summerville; 1 step grandson, Steve Woods of LaFayette; Fourteen great grandchildren, Jarad Woods, Brianna Woods Chastain, Christian Woods, Rachel Woods, Billy Woods, Sarah Woods, Kaeli Patterson, Branson Woods, Eli Hutchins, Ben Woods, Gavin Collier, Sophia Hutchins, Ian Conley Hutchins, Ella Hutchins; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 16th, at 12:00 noon, from the Summerville Pentecostal Worship Center with grandsons Brother Bryn Hutchins and Kevin Woods officiating along with Brother Dollas Messer. Interment will be in West Hill Cemetery. Mr. Curtis Knowles Obit(Willis)

MR. CURTIS KNOWLES- Age 69, Of Menlo, Georgia passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015 with his family at his bedside. He was the son of the late Pete Knowles and Elizabeth Knowles Hamlin. He retired from Mt. Vernon Mills (Regel Mills) after forty-two years, was a faithful member of Lawrence Chapel United Methodist Church, and was preceded in death by one sister, Laura K. Black, three brothers, Henry Knowles, Nathaniel Knowles, and James Knowles, and stepfather, Carroll “Red” Hamlin.

Those left to rejoice in his memory are his soul-mate of fifty years, Ruth Starr of Summerville, Georgia; two sisters, Theresa K. Harris of Menlo and Myrtis K. Evans; one brother, Marcellous Knowles; daughters, Debra Shepherd, Catherine Green of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Hilda Copeland of Summerville; son, Edwin Starr of Marietta, Georgia; great aunt, Jerrell Dean Hudgins of Chickamauga, Georgia; two special nephews, Nathaniel Knowles of Menlo and Kelly Harris of Lyerly, Georgia; special niece, Tracey Esmann of Menlo; sisters-in-law, Laura Dean Knowles of Summerville; special friends, Debbie Turner and William Hyden; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

The Service to Celebrate the Life of Mr. Curtis Knowles will be held Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at New Hope United Methodist Church with Pastor Robert Barrett and other ministers officiating. His remains will lie in state at the church from Noon until the funeral hour. Interment, Summerville Cemetery. Mrs. Jessie Lockey Wallin Obit (M)

Mrs. Jessie Lockey Wallin, age 75, of Summerville, GA, died Monday, May 11, 2015, at Floyd Medical Center.

 

Mrs. Wallin was born August 14, 1939, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late Albert Cummings and Beulah Dover Cummings.  Prior to her retirement, she worked as a newspaper delivery carrier for the Chattanooga Times Free Press for 42 years.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Harold Avery Williams; a daughter, Glenda Gail Luttrell; brothers, Jackie Cummings and Billy Cummings; and a grandson, Donnie Ray Fowler, Jr.

 

Mrs. Wallin is survived by her sons, Nicky Lee Carter, Homer Alexander Williams, and Hilliard Anderson Williams; a daughter, Annie Fowler, a sister, Gertie Pearson; a granddaughter, Jessica Ann Park; and several other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Wallin will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, May 14, 2015, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow in the Ridgeway Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be grandsons.  Honorary pallbearers will be all of her newspaper route customers.
