Mr. Curtis Knowles Obit(Willis)

MR. CURTIS KNOWLES- Age 69, Of Menlo, Georgia passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015 with his family at his bedside. He was the son of the late Pete Knowles and Elizabeth Knowles Hamlin. He retired from Mt. Vernon Mills (Regel Mills) after forty-two years, was a faithful member of Lawrence Chapel United Methodist Church, and was preceded in death by one sister, Laura K. Black, three brothers, Henry Knowles, Nathaniel Knowles, and James Knowles, and stepfather, Carroll “Red” Hamlin.

Those left to rejoice in his memory are his soul-mate of fifty years, Ruth Starr of Summerville, Georgia; two sisters, Theresa K. Harris of Menlo and Myrtis K. Evans; one brother, Marcellous Knowles; daughters, Debra Shepherd, Catherine Green of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Hilda Copeland of Summerville; son, Edwin Starr of Marietta, Georgia; great aunt, Jerrell Dean Hudgins of Chickamauga, Georgia; two special nephews, Nathaniel Knowles of Menlo and Kelly Harris of Lyerly, Georgia; special niece, Tracey Esmann of Menlo; sisters-in-law, Laura Dean Knowles of Summerville; special friends, Debbie Turner and William Hyden; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

The Service to Celebrate the Life of Mr. Curtis Knowles will be held Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at New Hope United Methodist Church with Pastor Robert Barrett and other ministers officiating. His remains will lie in state at the church from Noon until the funeral hour. Interment, Summerville Cemetery. Mrs. Jessie Lockey Wallin Obit (M)

Mrs. Jessie Lockey Wallin, age 75, of Summerville, GA, died Monday, May 11, 2015, at Floyd Medical Center.

 

Mrs. Wallin was born August 14, 1939, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late Albert Cummings and Beulah Dover Cummings.  Prior to her retirement, she worked as a newspaper delivery carrier for the Chattanooga Times Free Press for 42 years.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Harold Avery Williams; a daughter, Glenda Gail Luttrell; brothers, Jackie Cummings and Billy Cummings; and a grandson, Donnie Ray Fowler, Jr.

 

Mrs. Wallin is survived by her sons, Nicky Lee Carter, Homer Alexander Williams, and Hilliard Anderson Williams; a daughter, Annie Fowler, a sister, Gertie Pearson; a granddaughter, Jessica Ann Park; and several other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Wallin will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, May 14, 2015, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow in the Ridgeway Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be grandsons.  Honorary pallbearers will be all of her newspaper route customers.

 

Mrs. Wallin will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 13, 2015.

Mr. Curtis Knowles, age 69, son of the late Mr. Pete Knowles Mrs. Elizabeth Knowles Hamlin, formerly of Menlo, passed away on Sunday, May 10th at the Redmond Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Mr. Stuart Tripp Marks Obit (M)

Mr. Stuart Tripp Marks, age 89, of Summerville, GA, died Friday, May 8, 2015, at Oakview Nursing and Rehab.
 
Mr. Marks was born October 23, 1925, in Summerville, GA, son of the late Harry Marks and Maude Nichols Marks.  He was a member of Summerville First Presbyterian church, where he was a charter member and was an Elder, he also attended West Georgia College and served in the Marines during World War II. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Nellie Marks
 
Mr. Marks is survived by his son, Will Marks, brothers, Charles Marks, Jamie Marks, grandchildren, Ethan Hutchins, Tripp Marks and Hannah Marks.
 
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M.  Monday May 11, 2015, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Norton officiating. Interment  will follow in the Summerville Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Arch Farrar, Robert McWhorter, Mark Fisher, Mike Poole, Rusty Dooley, Paul Marks, Chuck Marks, Ladell Norton, Robert Norton.
 
Mr. Marks will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. Sunday, May 10, 2015 and Monday from 1:00 until the funeral hour.

Mr. Gene “Geno” Marlon Grogan Obit (C)

Mr. Gene “Geno” Marlon Grogan, age 65 of Trion, GA

passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at his residence.

Mr. Grogan was born April 9, 1950 in Shannon, GA.  He had

been employed as Construction Worker with Skanska.  Mr.

Grogan was a member of the Spring Creek Baptist Church.

 

Mr. Grogan was preceded in death by son, Carey Langston;

daughter, Melissa Grogan; granddaughter, Haley Battles;

and parents, Leon and Datha Wallace Grogan.

 

Mr. Grogan is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Gina

Battles, Dana and Al Roach; brothers and sisters-in-law,

Odis and Shirley Grogan, J. C. Grogan, and Alvin and Joyce

Grogan; sisters and brother-in-law, Magdeline LeMaster

 and Wylene and Burl McFrye; grandchildren, Will and

Ethan Battles, Jacob and Landon Barrett, and Josh White.

 

Funeral  services will be conducted Saturday, May 9, 2015

at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coffman Funeral Home

with Bro. Derek Hall and Bro. Max Reed officiating. 

Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Ruby Jewell Bennett Obit (ER)

MRS. RUBY JEWELL BENNETT, age 83, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2015, morning at her residence.  A native of Chattooga County, she was born to the late William B. and Alma Potts Starkey on May 16, 1931.  She was a homemaker, a member of Sonrise Community Church, and was preceded in death by her husband the late James William Bennett; a daughter, the late Karen Bennett; a sister Eunice Willingham; three brothers: James Starkey, Judson Starkey, and Charlie Starkey.

Surviving are son & spouse, Jim and Liz Bennett of Summerville, 2 Grandsons, Shannon Bennett (Kerri) and David Tapp (Amber), Great Grandsons – Rhett Maddux, Jacob Bartels, Keith McGraw, Matthew Tapp, Chris Craig, Great Granddaughters-Kelsey Craig, Liz Craig, Destinee McGuire, Reese Bennett, Sydney Bennett, and Alexia McGuire; One Brother- David Harrison Starkey of Trion and Special close friend- Pat Woods; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

The funeral services will be held Thursday, May7th,  at 2 p.m. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Ricky Biddle officiating, Interment will be in the West Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Mildred Juanita Miller Obit (M)

Mrs. Mildred Juanita Miller, age 74, of Summerville, GA died Saturday, May

2, 2015 at her residence.

 

Mrs. Miller was born October 24, 1940 in Summerville, GA, the daughter of

the late Amos Jackson and Vinnia Elizabeth Huggins Jackson.  Mrs. Miller was

a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.  Other than her parents, she was preceded

in death by her husband, Rev. Billy Joe Miller, SR; and sisters, Beverly Jackson and

Martha Nell Miller.

 

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Riley Miller, Bill and Susan Miller,

Randy Miller, Danny Miller, David and Denise Miller; brothers, Edward Jackson,

Melvin Jackson, and Carlton Jackson; sisters, Annie Lee Colbert, Linda Jackson,

Joan Keef, and Betty Jean Broom; 17 Grandchildren; and 20 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Mason Funeral

Home Chapel, with Rev. Gary Wells officiating.  Burial will follow in Garrett Cemetery.

MRS. FRANCES KNOWLES, age 85, of Hartline Street, Summerville, Georgia passed away early Saturday, May 2, 2015, at her residence. Born in Walker County, Georgia, on November 9, 1929, She was a daughter of the late William Arthur and Lillie Ann Nuckles Bowman. Mrs. Knowles was a self employed seamstress and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late James Robert Knowles on July 4, 1989.

Surviving are daughter & spouse, Denise and Randy Haygood; son & spouse, Rev. Don and Mary Knowles all of Summerville; brother & spouse, Bill and Hilda Bowman of Watkinsville, Georgia; best friend, Doris Bowman; grandchildren, Elizabeth and David Amis, Holly Haygood, Jeremy and Tiffany Knowles; great granddaughter, Sarah Bell; step great grandchildren, Josh and Colin; several Nieces and Nephews.

MR. JAMES C. HAMPTON, age 82, of L. M. Thomas, Jr. Road, Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday at his residence. A native of Hollywood, Alabama, He was born to the late W. C. and Julia Adams Hampton. He was retired from Canagra Feed Mill’s maintenance department. Mr. Hampton was a member of the Ark of Faith Holiness Church and was preceded in death by his wife, the late Girthie Louise Cooper Hampton on June 24, 2009.

Surviving are son & spouse, James Leon and Vickie Ann Hampton of Summerville; sisters, Elizabeth Riddle, Beatrice Nichols, & Hazel Hampton all of Dalton, Barbara Spencer of Trion, Minnie Trittiion of Greensboro, N.C., & Doris Hampton of Dalton; brothers, David Hampton of Scottsboro, Al. and Preston (Pete) Hampton of Summerville; grandchildren, James B.
