Mr. Eddie Wayne Gentry Obit (M)

Mr. Eddie Wayne Gentry, age 53, of Ellijay, GA, formerly of Summerville, GA, died Saturday, May 2, 2015, at his residence.

Mr. Gentry was born April 8, 1962, in Summerville, GA, son of Ethel Mae Gentry DeBerry and the late J. R. Gentry.  He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was employed with Total Comfort Heating and Air.

Mr. Gentry is survived by his wife, Melessia Hunter Gentry; mother, Ethel Mae Gentry DeBerry; sons and daughter-in-law, Justin Ryan and Jamie Gentry, Skyler Chase Ewing, and Hunter McHugh Gentry; a daughter, Laurie Jane Elizabeth Gentry; step-sons, Aaron Curtis and Zach Curtis; brothers, Johnny & Kathy Gentry and Terry Gentry, stepsisters, Rhonda & Gwen Brown, Tabitha & Rodney Allen, step-brother,  Ron Deberry.

Funeral services for Mr. Gentry will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 4, 2015, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jason Cowart officiating.  Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Terry Ray, Zach Curtis, Aaron Curtis, Blake Gentry, Austin Gentry, Greg Wofford, and Jacob DeBerry.  Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Teloga Baptist Church.

Mr. Gentry will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Sunday, May 3, 2015.

Mr. Walter Ray Walker Obit (C)

Mr. Walter Ray Walker, age 80 of Summerville, GA passed away

Friday, May 1, 2015 at his residence. Mr. Walker was born

January 3, 1935 in Trion, GA. He had been employed as an

Instrumentation Technician with Henkel Chemical Company. Mr.

Walker was a member of the Pennville Alliance Church, member of

the Trion Masonic Lodge #160 F&AM, and was longtime member and

president of ARC.

Mr. Walker was preceded in death by sons, Kevin Walker and Pat

Walker; grandson, Andrew Walker; parents, Walter Fermon Walker

and Rubie Jane Gilreath Walker.

Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Shirley B. Walker; son and

daughter-in-law, Bevin and Rose Walker; daughter and son-in-law

Marianne and Jeffrey Trammell; grandchildren, Bo Walker, Robbie

Walker, Amanda Walker, Laura Walker DeLay, Charles Parris, Anna

Parris, Kyle Parris, and Ray Trammell; and 11 great-grandchildren; and

special friends, Trion Lodge #160.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. from the

Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Pastor Carlos Martines

officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens with

Trion Masonic Lodge #160 F&AM in charge of graveside rites.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at the Coffman Funeral Home

where the family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Bo Walker Robbie Walker, Charles Parris,

Kyle Parris, Ray Trammell, Joey DeLay, and Jeffrey Trammell. Honorary

Pallbearers will be Trion Masonic Lodge #160 F&AM and the staff of

Trion Drugs.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Ray’s

honor to the Chattooga County Food Pantry, Summerville, GA.

Mrs. Wanda Mae Edwards, age 68 of Summerville, GA passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2015 in Redmond Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Edwards was born September 1, 1946 in Fort Payne, AL. She was a housewife and a member of the Lyerly Congregational Holiness Church. 

Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by parents, Wayne Blake and Viola Price Blake and sister, Martha Cooper. 

Mrs. Edwards is survived by husband of 55-1/2 years, Joe Edwards; son, Jeff Edwards; sisters and brother-in-law, Jeanette Chadwick and Linda and Sonny Reece; grandchildren, Matthew Blake Edwards and Tiffany Joann Harvey; great-grandchild, Phoenix Zavier Harvey. 

Graveside Memorial Services will be conducted Friday, May 1, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. from the Lyerly Cemetery with Rev. Glenn Studdard and Rev. Sanford DeBerry officiating. Interment will be in Lyerly Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Mr. Roy Joe Thomas Obit (C)

Mr. Roy Joe Thomas, age 86, of Rome, Georgia formerly of Chattooga County, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at his residence.

Mr. Thomas was born in Trion, Georgia on September 24, 1928, son of the late Luke Thomas and Flora Davis Thomas. He was a member of the New Armuchee Baptist Church, and prior to retirement, was employed with the Farmer’s and Merchant’s Bank, First National Bank at Trion, and was an appraiser for Floyd County. Mr. Thomas was a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Army was an active member of the Lyons Club and the Kiwanis Club. In addition to his parents, Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Thomas Stowe and a brother-in-law, Rev. Darty F. Stowe.

Mr. Thomas is survived by four nephews, Dave Stowe, Donald Stowe, Danny Stowe and Dale Stowe.

Funeral Services for Mr. Thomas will be held Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Dr. David Howard and Rev. Kenneth Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Stowe, Donald Stowe, Danny Stowe, Dale Stowe, Jimmy Barron, and Jim Moser.

Mrs. Sylvia Marlene Burton Obit (M)

Mrs. Sylvia Marlene Burton, age 74, of Summerville, GA, died Monday, April 27, 2015, at Redmond Regional Medical Center.
 
Mrs. Burton was born August 15, 1940, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late James and Bernice Finster Crowe.  She was a homemaker, an Avon Lady, and was a member of the Subligna Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Jerry "Red" Burton; brothers, Junior Woods and Donald Woods; and a sister, Christine Burke.
 
Mrs. Burton is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Pam Coulter, Sherri and William Whitlock, Rebecca and Joe Johnson, and Paula Ulrich; grandchildren, Rickey "R. J." Hughes, Jr., Brett Hughes, Tyler Whitlock, and Brennon Whitlock; and a great-grandchild, Cameron Shane Hughes.
 
Memorial services for Mrs. Burton will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday, May 1, 2015, from the Subligna Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Bishop officiating.
 
There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5:00 P.M. until the hour of service at the Subligna Baptist Church.

Ms. Dawn Renea Wood Obit (M)

Ms. Dawn Renea Wood, 52, of Menlo, GA died Monday, April 27, 2015 at her

home.

 

Ms. Wood was born October 16, 1962 in Valdosta, GA, the daughter of the late

Bruce Franklin Wood, and Gwendolyn Morgan Wood.  She was formerly employed

with Transportation Safety Technology. 

 

Ms. Wood is survived by her companion, Phil Key; sister, Dora Jones; and brothers,

Bruce Wood, and Michael Jackson.

 

Graveside and interment services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Mt. Olive Cemetery with Rev. Roger Kernard officiating.  Pallbearers are Josh Key, Chris

Key, William McKinsey, Scotty Hammett, Mac Shipman, and L. J. Hall.

Mr. J. Hairral Davis, age 78, of Trion, Georgia passed away Monday,  April 27, 2015
 at his residence following an extended illness.

Mr.  Davis was born in Jamestown, Alabama on July 2, 1936, son of the late
Emmet Odell Davis and Martha A. James Davis. He was a member of the
Trion Heights Baptist Church and prior to retirement was employed as a
boiler turbine operator with Georgia Power.  Mr. Davis was the Chairman 
of the Board of Directors for the Chattooga Day Care, was a past PTA and 
PTT Leader and was formerly very active in the Boy Scouts. 
 
In addition  to his parents, Mr. Davis was preceded in death by a granddaughter, 
Sydni Davis and two sisters, Buena Davis and Betty Putnam. 

Mr.  Davis is survived by his wife, Faye McCauley Davis; sons and  daughters-in-law, 
Chris and Lisa Davis, Jon and Deanna Davis and Derek
and Amee Davis; daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Butch Camp, Cecelia 
and Jerry McMichen and Holly Minor; a brother, Charles Davis; sister, 
Patricia Waters; grandchildren, Felecia Floyd, Nicole Branton, Jason 
Thomas, Brock Cigainero, Matt Maxwell, Joseph McMichen, Jeremy McMichen, 
Spencer Davis, Seigar Davis, Hunter Davis, Steiner Davis, Haleigh Davis 
Avery Davis and Anistyn Davis; great grandchildren, Griffin Floyd, 
Sidney Floyd, Ian Walker, Jaydon Walker, Peyton Walker, Ashton Walker,

Mrs. Dora Marie Hurley (C)

Mrs. Dora Marie Hurley, age 99, of Lyerly, Georgia, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015 at the Shepherd Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Hurley was born in Sand Rock, Alabama on July 27, 1915, daughter of the late Homer Odis Cochran and Mary Connie Sims. She was a member of the Perennial Springs Baptist Church and prior to retirement, was employed with the Chattooga County Hospital as a nurse’s aide. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hurley was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Earnest Hurley; brothers, W.H. “Bill” Cochran, Frank Cochran, and J.R. Cochran; sisters, Savannah Warren, Edna Morgan and Kizzie Dutton.

Mrs. Hurley is survived by special nieces, Mary Whittle and her husband, Joel Whittle and Marie Bishop; and a number of additional nieces and nephews.  Funeral Services for Mrs. Hurley will be held Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 4:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Joel Whittle and Rev. Ken Westmoreland officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Hills Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Gary Blankenship, Wayne Dutton, William Warren, Christian Griggs, Tyler Barbee and Devan Byers. Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff of Shepherd Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Lela Ruth Lemming, age 85, of Summerville, GA, passed away Saturday April 25, 2015, at her residence.

Mrs. Lemming was born March 7, 1930, in Jamestown, AL, the daughter of James and Julie Deering Tucker. She was a member of New Hope North Baptist Church, retired from Best Mfg, and preceded in death by her husband, James Billy Lemming, brother, Walter Tucker, Lewis Tucker, sister, Bobbie Purcell. 

Survivors, children, Frank & Kim Lemming, Billy Joe Lemming, Gary & Sue Lemming, Brenda  & Richard Baty, Dean & Nikki Ramey, brothers, Tom Tucker, Jack Tucker, sisters, Glenda Gass, Mary Jo Guffey, Anne Mae Jennings, Mildred Cooper, 15 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and a number of great-great-grandchildren.
