Mr. Rickey Dale Avans Obit (Wallis Wilbanks)

RICKEY  DALE  AVANS,  age  55,   of  LaFayette  passed  away  Monday,  January  12,  2015.  He  was  a  member  of  the  New  Hope  North  Baptist  Church  for  22  years  and  was  plant  manager  at  Hayes  State  Prison  in  Summerville,  Ga.
He is  preceded  in  death  by  his  parents,  Johnny  and  Sarah  Joyce  Avans;  One  brother,  Robin  Avans.
He  is  survived  by  a  loving  wife  of  38  years,  Sonia  Avans;  Daughter,  Amy  (Chris)  White,  of  LaFayette;  Son,  Bryan  Avans,  of  LaFayette;  Sisters,  Regina  Matthews,  of  Cloudland,  Ga,  and  Rhonda  Adams,  of  Chattanooga,  Tn;  Brothers,  Rev.  Randy  (Donna)  Avans,  and  Roger  (Phyllis)  Avans,  both  of  LaFayette;  Grandchildren,  Chyanne  Avans,  Alex  White,  Megan  White,  Hunter  Stills,  and  Spencer  White;  Several  nieces  and  nephews  also  survive. 
Funeral  from  the  Wallis  Memorial  Chapel  Thursday,  January  15,  2015  at  3:00   P.M.  with  the  Rev.  Ricky  Clark  officiating. 
Pallbearers  will  be  Jimmy  “J.C.”  Chandler,  Dale  Pack,  John  Smith,  Randy  Hunter,  Kevin  Smith,  and  Steve  Kaylor.
Interment  to  follow  in  the  Avans  Family  Cemetery.

Mrs. Teresa Broome Schrader Obit (M)

Mrs. Teresa Broome Schrader, age 61, of Summerville, GA, died Monday, January 12, 2015, at her residence.

Mrs. Schrader was born September 28, 1953, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late Hoyt and Betty Jean Wilson Broome.  She was a member of the Spring Creek Baptist Church where she served as pianist for several years, and was retired from Lookout Mountain Community Services.  Mrs. Schrader attended Chattooga High School and was the Chattooga County Rodeo Queen in 1969.  She was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, and grandmother.  She loved God, her family, and her church family.  She was a part of the Annie Lee Circle at Spring Creek Baptist Church.

Mrs. Schrader is survived by her husband, Mark William Schrader; son and daughter-in-law, Mark Anthony and Amanda Schrader; daughter and son-in-law, Christie and John B. Williams; brothers, Rickey Broome, Randy Broome; a sister, Elaine Pettyjohn; grandchildren, Dakoda Willingham, Belle Williams, Emily Schrader, and Cole Schrader; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Schrader will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 15, 2015, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Holman and Rev. Derick Hall officiating.  Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Dakoda Willingham, Lynn Broome, Stacy Evans, Shawn Pettyjohn, Tony Lively, and LaBranne Willingham.

Mrs. Brenda Annette Cooper Obit (M)

Mrs. Brenda Annette Cooper, age 50, of Gaylesville, AL died Saturday,
January 10, 2015, at Cherokee Medical Center.
 
Mrs. Cooper was born July 23, 1964 in Summerville, GA, the daughter of
Willie Mae Tallent Cooper and the late Mack Cooper.  She had previously
worked at Hardin Manufacturing. Mrs. Cooper was a member of Berea
Church of Christ.  Other than her parents, she was preceded in death
by grandparents, Ola Mae Tallent Sprayberry, William “Bill” Tallent, Frances
and Jack Cooper.
 
Survivors include her mother, Willie Mae Cooper; daughters and sons-in-law,
Amanda Avery and Gilbert Moreno, and Ashley Avery and Jonathon O’Neal;
sister, Maxine Cooper; grandchild, Caytlyn O’Neal; nieces and nephews,
Katy Cooper, Jessie James Cooper; special aunt Vaudean Donovits; and pet’s, Lucy and Ricky.
 
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p. m. (EST) Thursday January 15, 2014
at Berea Church of Christ with Minister Berlin Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until the service hour on Thursday at the church.

Mrs. Nola Alice Palmer Obit (M)

Mrs. Nola Alice Palmer, age 88, of Summerville, GA, died Sunday, January 11, 2015, at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Palmer was born March 1, 1926, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late Hershel DeWight and Emma Jean Bryson Dover.  Prior to her retirement, she was employed with Bigelow-Sanford.  She also sat with the elderly.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, L. T. Palmer; a son, Hershel Gordon Veatch; brothers, Bob Dover, H. T. Dover, and Grady Thomas Dover.

Mrs. Palmer is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky Lee and Beverly Veatch, Larry Clayton and Diane Veatch, Brenda Veatch – Haynes; a brother, Hubert Dover; sisters, Betty Dover, Helen Ponder, Doris Patterson, and Anne Cook; 9 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Palmer will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday, January 12, 2015 from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Odom officiating.  Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Casey Veatch, Lee Veatch, Dustin Veatch, Chris Cook, Brandon Veatch, Jackie Moore, and Stacy Mitchell.  Honorary pallbearers will the Staff of Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Ms. Betty Jean Himes Obit (C)

Ms. Betty Jean Himes, age 59 of Centre, AL passed away Wednesday, Januaryt 17, 2015 at her residence.  Ms. Himes was born May 2, 1955 in Batesville, Indiana.  She was a self-employed entreprenauer; very giving and kind caregiver, and loved to cook.  Ms. Himes was Methodist by faith.

  Ms. Himes was preceded in death by a  brother, Victor Himes; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Himes.

 Ms. Himes is survived by father and step-mother, James Himes, Sr. and Joyce Himes; son, Byron Becker (Tammy Morrow); brother, James Himes, Jr.; sister, Donna Bosserman; uncle and aunt, Harold and Edna Himes; special aunts and uncles, Bob and Joyce Peppers, Pam and Charles Himes, and Bob and Sandra Himes; step-brothers, Butch and John Paul Ramey; step-sister, Faye Marton; cousins, nieces and nephews.

 Memorial service will be held Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the Anne Kresge United Methodist Church, 15 Booger Hollow Road, Cedartown, GA with Rev. John Giglio officiating.

Mrs. Betty Fay Cooper, age 67, of Summerville, GA passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Cooper was born in Collinsville, Alabama on February 23, 1947 daughter of the late Houston Richard Rape and Eva Jewel Copeland Rape.  She attended the Harrell Street Church of God and enjoyed working in the garden.  She was a homemaker.  Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by a son, Steven Richard Trammell; sister, Doris Rape and two grandsons, A.J. Trammell and Rocky Trammell. 

Mrs. Cooper is survived by her husband, Clayton Cooper; her children, Kenny Trammell, Billy Trammell, Tony Trammell, Jessie Trammell, Anthony Trammell, Chris Trammell, Bret Trammell, Richard Bingham, Ponda Trammell and Tammy Trammell; brothers, Lamar Rape and Gary Rape; sister, Louise Rape; grandchildren, Jessie Trammell, Dakoda Trammell, Jason Elders, Kasey Trammell, Alex Trammell Sabrina Christine Bingham, Latasha Fowler, Betty Fowler, Chasity Holcomb, Dustin Walker, Patsy Trammell, Mandy Trammell, Samantha Trammell, Courtney Trammell, Destiny Trammell, Brandon Trammell; a number of additional grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ruth W. Ratliff Obit (ER)

MRS. RUTH W. RATLIFF, age 89, of Holland, Georgia passed away Tuesday,
 January 6, 2015, at Her residence.  A native of Mendocino, California, She 
was born to the late Chester R. and Susie Gordon Walbridge, on January 30, 
1925.  During WW II, She worked for Georgia/Pacific helping supply wood 
products to our Military for the war effort.  She married her late husband, 
Bolling Ratliff, in 1943, while he was serving in the military.  Later returning to 
Chattooga County where She was long time secretary for the Lyerly School 
system.  Mrs. Ratliff was of the Presbyterian Faith.

Surviving are daughter-Cindy Fulton of Trion; sons-Doug Ratliff of
 Holland and Dr. Larry Ratliff of Anderson, S.C.; grandchildren-Stephanie 
Cromer of Lyerly, Dee Fulton of Albany, GA., Scott Fulton of Calhoun, 
Arden Ratliff of Charleston, S.C., and Lauren Givillo of Seattle, Washington.

Ms.  Jacqueline Nannette Sammons, age 53, of Fort Oglethorpe, GA, passed away Sunday January 4, 2015, at her home.

Ms. Sammons was born October 1, 1961, in Tampa, FL, the daughter of Helen Vine and the late Milburn Teems.  She was a homemaker and member of the Chesterfield Baptist Church.  Ms. Sammons was preceded in death by her father Milburn Teems and step-father Ernest Purcell.

Survivors include her mother Helen Vine, son Jason Sammons, daughters Shannon Langston and Casey Bice, brothers Charles “Buddy” Purcell and William Purcell, sisters Linda Lawson, Charlotte Flood, Wanda Hunnicutt-Styles, Dorothy Thompson, Debra McCary, grandchildren Sean and Mason Sammons, Kaite Richiez and Ayvah and Mia Langston.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday January 10, 2015, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Greg Ledford officiating.

Mr. Thomas Dale Adams, age 62, of Trion, GA, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015, at his residence.

Mr. Adams was born March 8, 1952, in Rome, GA, the son of Gladys Catherine Crozier Adams and the late Miriam Thomas Adams.  He was employed with Chattooga Tank and Pipe as a truck driver.

Survivors include his mother, Gladys Adams, daughters, Jennifer Lynn Palmer, Missy Darlene Hamby, sisters, Patricia Little, Brenda Allen, Beverly Fortenberry, 7 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 6, 2015,  from the Floyd Memory Gardens with Rev. Terry Shores officiating.   Active pallbearers will be Scott Palmer, Sammy Hamby, Sonny O’Berry,  Albert Little, Cody Harmon, and Matthew Cantrell.

Mrs.  Martha Fannie  Rogers, age 74, of Tunnel Hill, GA, passed away Friday January 2, 2015, in Erlanger Hospital.

Mrs. Rogers was born February 22, 1940, in Summerville, GA, the daughter of the late Thomas Lee and Nellie Jane Craig Helton.  She was retired from Mohawk Carpet Mill.

Survivors include her husband , William Eugene Rogers, sons, Troy Davis Rutledge, Randy LaDon Warren, Luther Eugene Rogers, daughter, Lois Helton, brother, Robert Helton, 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren.
