Mr. Johnnie Russell Gentry, Sr Obit (M)

Mr. Johnnie Russell Gentry, Sr., age 88, of Trion, GA, died Friday, December 12, 2014, at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Gentry was born August 9, 1926, in Little Sand Mountain, GA, son of Mary Elizabeth Gentry.  He was a member of the Harrell Street Church of God of the Union Assembly, and also served as a Deacon for over 50 years.  He was retired from Mount Vernon Mills and was a member of the Trion Lodge # 160 F&AM.  In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Eddie Jones.

Mr. Gentry is survived by his wife, Esther Gentry; son and daughter-in-law, Johnnie R. Jr. and Brenda Gentry; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda Jones, JoAnn and Charles Toles, Jean and Danny Hester; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Gentry will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, December 15, 2014, from the Harrell Street Church of God with Rev. Denny Smith and Rev. Freddie Bell officiating.  Interment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens.  Active pallbearers will be grandsons and include Frankie Jones, Jeremy Gentry, Robbie Jones, Mikie Jones, Greg Jones, D. J. Hester, Tanner Hester, and Zack Smith.  Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Trion Lodge # 160 F&AM and the Deacons of the Harrell Street Church of God of the Union Assembly.

Mr. Gentry will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. Sunday, December 14, 2014.  He will also lie in state at the Harrell Street Church of God from 12:30 P.M. until the hour of service on Monday.

Ms. Denise Eldridge Obit (M)

Ms. Denise Eldridge, age 54, of Gaylesville, AL, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2014, in Cherokee Medical Center.

Ms. Eldridge was born April 20, 1960, the daughter of the late Leonard and Ruby Gamble Crane.  She was formerly employed with Mohawk Carpet Mills and was preceded in death by a son, Terry Lee Eldridge, and a sister, Barbara Abbott.

Survivors include her son, Samuel Eldridge, brothers, Leo Crane, Calvin Crane, and Dennis Crane.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. (EST) Monday, December 15, 2014, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Mayo officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Hill (Need More) Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Calvin Crane, Leo Crane, Dennis Crane, Michael Crane, Wayne Crane, and Matthew Crane.

Mrs. Mary Lou Wilkerson Incomplete Obit (M)

Mrs. Mary Lou Wilkerson, age 100, of Summerville, GA, passed away Thursday December 11, 2014, in Golden Living Center.
 
Mrs. Wilkerson was  born Jan. 14, 1914, in Jacksonville, AL, the daughter of the late Henry and Ida Mae Sheffield Bramlett.  She was a homemaker, a member of the Highland Avenue Church, and preceded in death by her husband, Gus Marcus Wilkerson.

Mrs. Sarah Jane Edwards, age 86 of Summerville, GA passed away 
Wednesday, December 10, 2014 in Oakview Nursing & Rehab. Mrs. Edwards 
was born January 20, 1928 in Canton, GA. She was a homemaker and loved to fish. 
 
Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by daughter, Maureen Dolbow; parents, Grady Smith and Ora Mozelle Moss; siblings, Leon Smith, Peggy Sue Smith, Mae Hamilton, and Gladys Deering. 
 
Mrs. Edwards is survived by children; brother, Melvin Smith; sister, Faye Spears; grandchildren, Angela Harris, Tony Pinion, Laura Ray, Lisa Venable, Wayne Venable, Adrianna Venable, Alexa Whitney, and Ashley K Edward; and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. 
       
There will be a private graveside at Macedonia Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2014

Mr. Billy Clarence Henderson Obit (C)

 

Mr. Billy Clarence Henderson, age 93 of Trion, GA passed away Thursday, December 11, 2014 in Redmond Regional Medical Center.   Mr. Henderson was born November 22, 1921 in Gaylesville, AL.  He was a Veteran of the United States Army Airborne.  He was a member of the VFW.  Mr. Henderson enjoyed spending time with his family.

Mr. Henderson was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne Henderson and his second wife, Katherine Henderson; daughter, Toni Tudor; and son, Chuck Henderson.

Mr. Henderson is survived by grandchildren, Jeff Mason, Robbie Mason, Billy Mason, and Melissa Lowrance; step-children, David Griffin and Carolyn Brady; step-grandchildren, Susan, Jeremiah, Billy, Rocky, Kerri, Cindy, and Marcia; 12 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Graveside and Interment services will be Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. from the Greenhills Memory Gardens with Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 providing military honors.

Mrs. Vicky Darlette Sweet Gill Obit (C)

Mrs. Vicky Darlette Sweet Gill, age 49, of Trion, Georgia passed away Monday, December 8, 2014 at her residence.

 

Mrs. Gill was born in Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia on January 13, 1965, daughter of Mrs. Georgia Anne Brown Sweet and the late Charles Jefferson “Bud” Sweet.  She was a member of the Harvest Worship Center in Trion and loved to sing, play with her granddaughter, fish and was very creative with arts and crafts.  Mrs. Gill was preceded in death by her father, Bud Sweet; a daughter, Caressa Darlette Gill, and two grandchildren, Carter Allen Gill and Hunter Douglas Gill.

 

Mrs. Gill is survived by her husband, Doug Gill; sons and daughter-in-law, Jesse and Pamela Gill and Adam Gill; mother, Anne Sweet; sisters, Rebecca Sweet, Cathy Ingle and Charla Forrester; her granddaughter, Callie Anne Gill; and a number of nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for Mrs. Gill will be held Friday, December 12, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in the Pettit Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Minter and Bro. Jeff Ford officiating.  Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Charles W. Spraggins Obit (ER)

 MR. CHARLES W. SPRAGGINS, age 75, of Berry Ridge, Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at his residence following an extended illness. A native of Chattooga County, Georgia Mr. Spraggins was born to the late Julius James and Bonnie Gardner Spraggins on May 18, 1939. For several years He was telegraph operator for the Southern Rail Road, afterwards was supervisor, welder, and pipe fitter for Inland Container, retiring after 35 years of service. Mr. Spraggins was also an Amateur Radio Operator for 40 years and following retirement was a member of The Southern Baptist Association Disaster Relief Service serving as a ham radio operator in disaster areas. He was a member of Summerville First Baptist Church.

Surviving are His wife of 54 years, Carolyn Spraggins; daughter, Penny Headrick of Armuchee; son, Chad Spraggins of Summerville; grandchildren, Ryan Headrick, Whitney Headrick, Sierra Campbell, and Jacob Spraggins.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 13th, at 1:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Bryant and Rev. Mr. Frank M. Ledford Obit (ER)

MR. FRANK M. LEDFORD, age 81, of Kellett Street, Summerville, Georgia passed away Monday, December 8, 2014, at his residence following an extended illness. Born on October 12, 1933, in Chattooga County, a son of the late Charlie M. and Ora Mae Smith Ledford, He was retired from Mohawk Industries, and a member of Summerville First Baptist Church, and Baraca Sunday School Class. Mr. Ledford was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in the Korean War, a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., the Mohawk Elite 25 Year Club, and the Georgia Power Ambassadors, Rome Chapter. He was preceded in death by two sisters- Violet White and Flossie Wooten, and two brothers- Charles “Jack” Ledford and Bobby Ledford. 

Surviving are: Wife, Frances Kellett Ledford; son- Frank Coleman (Debra) Ledford of Chattanooga, TN; Granddaughter- Frances (Jason) Lewis; Grandson- Frank Judson Ledford; Great Granddaughter- Callista Rose Butner, Great Grandson- Elijah Joe Butner all of Chattanooga. Sister-Winnie L. (Donald) Chandler of Summerville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 10th, at 1:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, with Dr. Paul Mason and Dr. David Hunter officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Mrs. Barbara Ann “Bonnie” Jones Obit (M)

Mrs. Barbara Ann “Bonnie” Jones, age 61, of Summerville, GA, died Tuesday, December 9, 2014, at her residence.

Mrs. Jones was born February 5, 1953, in Winder, GA, daughter of the late James William and Dorothy Gaddis Blackmon.  She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Charlie and Fannie Blackmon.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband, Michael Jones; son, Rodney Jones; brother, Johnny Greene; sisters, Vickie Deering and Charlene Trammell; and grandchildren, Holley Jones and Brittany Shigekawa.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jones will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 11, 2014, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mr. Robert Grady Jenkins Obit (M)

Mr. Robert Grady Jenkins, age 65, of Summerville, GA, died Friday, December 5, 2014, at his residence.
 
Mr. Jenkins was born October 9, 1949, in LaFayette, GA, son of Robert Henry Jenkins and Margaret Inez Millican. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Vietnam where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Two Overseas Bars, and the Expert Rifleman’s Badge.  Mr. Jenkins was a member of the New Antioch Baptist Church as well as the Western Lodge # 91 F & AM.  Prior to his retirement, he served as the Chief of Security for Mount Vernon Mills.  He was preceded in death by a sister, June Elizabeth Stinnett; maternal grandparents, Charlie and Tinney Henderson Wilson; paternal grandparents, James Ollie and Alice D. Jenkins; and a great-grandson, Bryson Lee Jenkins.
 
Mr. Jenkins is survived by his wife, Brenda Diane Wofford Jenkins; sons, Wiley “Butch” Jenkins, Robert Brian Jenkins; parents, Robert Henry Jenkins and Margaret Inez Millican; brothers, John Henry Jenkins, Charles Jenkins, and David Jenkins; sisters, Margie Jenkins and Stella Jenkins Kilgore; 9 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
