Mr. Merl Rogers Incomplete Obit (M)

Mr. Merl Rogers, age 85, of Summerville, GA, died Sunday, September 14, 2014, at Redmond Regional Medical Center.
 
Mr. Rogers was born January 2, 1929, in Fulton, MS, a son of the late Eston Rogers and Myrtle Cleo Swindile Rogers.  He was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, he was employed as a Tree Cutter with N. G. Gilbert.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Estelle Jones Rogers; and his second wife, Eva Barnes Rogers.
 
Mr. Rogers is survived by his sons, Donald Rogers and David Rogers; daughters, Sue Burdick and Jan Fricks; 14 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and special friend, Bea Ellis.

Mrs. Pamela Jean Pursley Johnson Obit (M)

Mrs. Pamela Jean Pursley Johnson, age 55, of Summerville, GA, died Saturday, September 13, 2014, at her residence.
 
Mrs. Johnson was born November 30, 1958, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late Billy Ray Pursley and Edna Jean Gorham Pursley.  She was a member of the Perennial Springs Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, she was employed with Redmond Regional Medical Center as an X-Ray Technologist.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Jerryl Johnson Smith.
 
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband, Dennis Johnson; a son, Matthew Johnson; a daughter, Hannah Johnson; and a granddaughter, Raine Myla Harrison.
 
Memorial services for Mrs. Johnson will be held at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 16, 2014, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Pledger officiating. 
 
There will be a gathering of family and friends from 6:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Tuesday.

Mrs. Carrie Bell McCutchins, Updated Obit. (M)

Mrs. Carrie Bell McCutchins, age 71, of Summerville, GA, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2014, at her residence.

 

Mrs. McCutchins was born December 14, 1942, in LaFayette, GA, daughter of the late D. L. Careathers and Louella Morton Careathers.  She was a member of The Holiness Church, and prior to her retirement, she was employed with Mount Vernon Mills.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank McCutchins Sr.; brothers, Donald E. Careathers, Charles Careathers, and George L. Careathers; and a sister, Gloria J. Careathers.

 

Mrs. McCutchins is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Eddy and Oneitha Wooten, Charles Leon Wooten, and Randy Lewis Wooten; a daughter, Carrie Frances Wooten; brothers, Kenneth Careathers and L. D. Careathers; sisters and brother-in-law, Ella Cleveland, Linda and Jefferson Davis; 5 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

 

Graveside and interment services for Mrs. McCutchins will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 14, 2014, from the Summerville Cemetery with Min. Jesse Bankston officiating.  Pallbearers will be friends and family.

 

Mrs. McCutchins will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Sunday.

Mr. Vincent Thomas “Tom” Brazelle, Jr. Obit (C)

Mr. Vincent Thomas "Tom" Brazelle, Jr. age 51 of Fort Oglethorpe, GA passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2014 in Hospice of Chattanooga, TN.  Mr. Brazelle was born January 24, 1963 in Washington, DC.   He was PC Technician with Chattanooga Technical Community College and was a Radio Show Personality with WAAK in Ringgold, GA.  He loved to play the Bass Guitar in Blues Bands.  Mr. Brazelle was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Oglethorpe, GA.

Mr. Brazelle was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent Thomas Brazelle, Sr. and Virginia Jo Styles Brazelle.

Mr. Brazelle is survived by his brother, Patrick (Susan) Brazelle of Hixson, TN; aunt, Frances Brazell of Hershey, PA; and many cherished cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Coffman Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Thomas officiating.  Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Jimmy Ronald Dooley Obit (ER)

MR. JIMMY RONALD DOOLEY, age 67, of Nashville, Tennessee, formerly of Columbia, South Carolina and Summerville passed away, Saturday, September 6, 2014, in Nashville. He was born in Summerville, Georgia on March 26, 1947 to the late Earl and Drucilla Dodd Dooley; he was also preceded by a brother the late Glen Earl Dooley.

Surviving are sons-Harrison (Brittany) Dooley Ryan Dooley of Nashville; granddaughter-Roslyn Dooley; sister-Carolyn (Doug) Jones of Summerville; nieces-Sarah (Adrian) Crawford-Cacuir and Eme Crawford.

Graveside service will be held Saturday, September 13th, at 11:00 A. M. from the South Carolina Campground Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Mr. Grady W. Wesson, age 97 of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, September 09, 2014 at the Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Wesson was born in DeKalb County, Georgia on April 25, 1917, son of the late Luther C. Wesson and Era Stephens Wesson. He was employed with Best Manufacturing working as a leather cutter. Mr. Wesson was preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine Wesson, his second wife, Ethel Shields Wesson; and a number of brothers and sisters.

Mr. Wesson is survived by a son, Waymon Wesson; sister, Pauline Mason; several step-children, and a number of grandchildren.

Graveside and Interment Services for Mr. Wesson will be held Thursday, September 11, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the family plot of the Summerville Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Pace officiating.

Pallbearers will be Larry Wesson, Gene Wesson, James Wesson, Patrick Wesson, Thad Jolly and Tim Wesson.

Mrs. Sue Burma Reynolds, age 87, of Summerville, GA, died Monday, September 8, 2014 at her residence.
 
Mrs. Reynolds was born August 15, 1927 in Fiffe, AL, the daughter of the late William
Broyles, and Bessie Dean Broyles.  She was retired from Best Glove Mill. Mrs. Reynolds
was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church.  Other than her parents, she was
preceded in death by her husband, Junior Reynolds; and a son-in-law, Gordon
Cochran.
 
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Jo Ann Cochran and Martha and Jackie Tucker; sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Frances Reynolds and Johnny and Elizabeth Reynolds; grandchildren, David Peek Casey Reynolds, Angela Reynolds, and Christy Harris; great-grandchildren, Brett Peek, T J Reynolds, Justin Reynolds, Collin Reynolds, Connor Reynolds, Danielle Reynolds, Isaiah Reynolds, and Anastasia Reynolds.
 
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Mason
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Holman and Rev. Bradley Battles officiating.

Mrs. Thelma Frances Walker Ward, age 91, of Summerville, GA, died Friday, September 5, 2014, at the Golden Living Center in Rome, GA.
 
Mrs. Ward was born August 10, 1923, in Rome, GA, daughter of the late James Lewis and Plinie Pauline Jackson Walker.  She was a homemaker, a gardener, and an active member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton Ward; brothers and sisters, Daisy Gentry, Irene Walters, Buster Walker, Walt Walker, Ethel Roper, Clara Belle Chapman, Hairm Walker, and Henry Walker; and her son-in-law, Nick Sweatman.
 
Mrs. Ward is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary “Pinky” and Betty Ward; a daughter, Pat Sweatman; grandchildren, Annette and Joe Lanham, Tracy and Darryl Ivy, Bradley and Kim Ward, Dee Shedd, Michele and Britt Copeland; great-grandchildren, Eston Burdick, Devin Burdick, Tabitha Burdick, Jesse Crider, Jasmine Crider, Tripp Lanham, Garyson Lanham, Kyla Ward, Nicholas Copeland, Noah Copeland, Mason Shedd, Braden Shedd, and Chloe Shaw.

Mrs. Ward will be in state at the Ebenezer Baptist Church and the family will receive friends from 3:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Sunday.  At other hours, the family will receive friends at the home of Gary and Betty Ward.

Mrs. Mizzie Cleghorn Brown Obit (C)

, age 97, of Trion, Georgia, passed away Saturday, September 06, 2014 at the Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Brown was born in Trion, Georgia on August 8, 1917, daughter of the late Oliver Dillard Maddux and Lula Bailey Maddux. She was a member of the East Trion Church of God and was employed as a seamstress for many years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Joe M. Cleghorn; second husband, Richard Alan Brown; daughter, Joyce Hill; sons, Jerry Cleghorn and James Cleghorn; step-son, Jack Brown; sisters, Margie Railey, Mattie Ruth Broyles, Grace Burck and Roberta Padgett; and brothers, Lawson Maddux and William Maddux.

Mrs. Brown is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Tina Cleghorn of Chatsworth; daughters and sons-in-law, Edna Edenfield of Summerville, Elsie and Dockie Earnest of Brinson, GA and Linda and Jerry Brumfield of Cumming, GA; stepchildren, Janet Scott, Sue Miscal, Debra Calloway, Frank Brown, Cliff Brown and David Brown; 17 grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 8, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in the New Generation Christian Church with Rev. Danny Harkins and Rev. O.C. McCane officiating. Interment will follow in the Trinity Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mrs. Brown’s grandsons and include: Tony Hill, Darryl Hill, Wayne Boggs, Joey Earnest, Brian Brumfield, Kevin Brumfield, Daniel Marvel and Jamie Cleghorn.

Mrs. Brown will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 4 until 6 P.M. On Monday, Mrs. Brown will also lie in state at the New Generation Christian Church from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.
