Mr. Russell Clayton Veatch Obit (M)

Mr. Russell Clayton Veatch, age 89, of Summerville, GA died Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Veatch was born May 18, 1925, in Trion, GA, the son of the late Gordon Lee Veatch and Naomi McWhorter Veatch. He was retired from the Chattooga County Transfer Station. Mr. Veatch was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mayron Murtis Bryan Veatch; and a son, Hershel Veatch.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Larry & Diane Veatch, and Ricky & Beverly Veatch; daughter-in-law, Brenda Veatch Haynes; 8 Grandchildren; and 15 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p. m. Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Dustin Veatch, Lee Veatch, Casey Veatch, Brandon Veatch, Stacey Mitchell, and Jackie Moore. Honorary pallbearers will be all Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Nurses of G Hall.

Mr. Veatch will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Mrs. Frances Jeanette Smith Obit (M)

Mrs. Frances Jeanette Smith, age 78, of Summerville, GA, passed away Saturday June 14, 2014, in Floyd Medical Center.

Mrs. Smith was born July 4, 1936, in Blue Ridge, GA, the daughter of the late Robert and Fannie Dyer Craig.  Mrs. Smith was retired from Oak View Nursing and Rehab Center.

Mrs. Frances Thomas Hardeman Incomplete Obit (ER)

MRS. FRANCES THOMAS HARDEMAN, age 89, of Allen Street-Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014, in a Rome health care. A lifetime resident of Chattooga County, Georgia, She was born on February 2, 1925, a daughter of the late John Newton and Julia Elizabeth Johnson Thomas. Mrs. Hardeman was a member of Summerville First Baptist Church and was retired accounts payable clerk for the former Georgia Rug Mill. She was preceded in death by her husband the late R.C. (Rod) Hardeman, Sr. and a son the late Rodney C. Hardeman, Jr.
Surviving are son-Gary R. Hardeman of Summerville; three Grandchildren, two Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews.

Mr. Franklin D. Messer Obit (M)

Mr. Franklin D. Messer, age 81, of Cedar Bluff, AL, died Friday, June 13, 2014, at his residence.

Mr. Messer was born February 15, 1933 in Cedar Bluff, AL, son of the late George and Lila Brown Messer.  Prior to his retirement, he was a supervisor with Ledbetter Brothers for over 30 years, and had also worked at Florida Rock Industries.  Mr. Messer was also a cattle farmer.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Messer, Jr., and a sister, Sue Messer Peace.

Mr. Messer is survived by his wife, Dixie Messer; daughters, Shelia Messer Hurley and Cindia Messer Peoples; a sister, Tressie Hanks; grandchildren, Michelle Wilkins, Kristen Bobo, Katie Peoples, Collier Peoples, and Meagan Hurley; great-grandchildren, Angel Bare, Danny Bare, Tristan Bare, and Will Bare, great-great-grandchildren, Madelyn Bobo and Brinlee Mobbs.

Funeral services for Mr. Messer will be held at 2:00 P.M. (E.S.T.) Monday, June 16, 2014, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Melvyn Salter officiating.  Interment will follow in the Unity Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Mike Hurley, Bryan Peoples, Collier Peoples, Jeff Grace, Paul Peace, Dennis Peace, Cole Peace, and Michael Peace.  D. Miss Taylor Sipes (M)

Miss Taylor Sipes, age 18, of Menlo, GA died Wednesday, June 11,2014 from
injuries received in an automobile accident.    
 
Miss Sipes was born September 27, 1995, in Rome, GA, the daughter of Maxwell
Sipes, and the late Tina Renee Croy Goodwin.  Taylor was employed with McDonald’s.
Other than her mother, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ciera Nicole Key;
and great-grandparents, Beatrice and Glenn Burton, and Curtis and Bertha Van Pelt.
 
Survivors include the love of her life, Kody Jacome; father, Maxwell Sipes; brother,
Gabriel Sipes; sister, Gabrielle Sipes; grandparents, Nora Croy and William Gibson,
and William T. Croy.
 
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Mason Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev. Shane Gibson and Rev. Bucky Brown officiating.  Burial

Mrs. Lois Elvenia DeBerry, age 84, of Trion, GA, died Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at her residence.

 

Mrs. DeBerry was born February 14, 1930, in Chavies, AL, daughter of the late Clifford Shankles and Ada Ann Reeves Shankles.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Emanuel Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. DeBerry was preceded in death by her sisters, Maxine Lumpkin, Doris Payne, Faye Miller, and Mary Wade; brothers, George Wesley and Kelly Shankles; and a son-in-law, Rick Grosjean.

 

Mrs. DeBerry is survived by her husband, Rev. Sanford DeBerry; a son and daughters-in-law, Larry and Roni DeBerry; daughters and son-in-law, Sandi and Dale McCollum, Tracie Grosjean; Renita Chambers and Tony Carnes; a sister, Mae Morgan; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. DeBerry will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 14, 2014, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Norton and Rev. Mr. Murl Lester Lloyd Obit (M)

Mr. Murl Lester Lloyd, age 73, of Trion, GA, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at his residence.

 

Mr. Lloyd was born March 19, 1941, in Jamestown, AL, son of the late James David Lloyd and Daisy Octovia Hartline Lloyd.  He was retired from the Tennessee Army National Guard and had served with the 196th Field Artillery Brigade and the 1-181st Field Artillery Battalion.  He was a veteran of Vietnam and Desert Storm. 

 

Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-law, David Earl and Darlene Lloyd, Wayne L. Lloyd; a sister, Sue Coker; grandchildren, Jessica Aycock, Chase Francisco, Haley Lloyd, Jakub Lloyd, and Lucas Lloyd; great-grandchild, Presley Aycock.

 

Funeral services for Mr. Lloyd will be held at 3:30 P.M. Friday, June 13, 2014, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Norton officiating.  Interment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens.  Active pallbearers will be Jason Tucker, Ricky Tucker, Randy Bagley, Tim Coker, James Humphrey, and Brandon Brown.  Honorary pallbearers will be the 1-181st Field Artillery Battalion and special friends, Ryan Willingham, Charles “Blue” Willingham, Sandy Willingham, Michael Tinney, “Bear” Blackmon, and Barry Tapp.

Mr. Grady Emory Cochran, JR, age 80, of LaFayette, GA, (formerly of Summerville) died Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at his residence.

 

Mr. Cochran was born December 5, 1933 in Trion, GA, the son of the late Grady

Emory Cochran, SR and Elvie Cochran Martin.  He was retired from the Trion

School System.  Mr. Cochran was a veteran of the United States Army, having

served in the Korean Conflict.  Other than his parents, he was preceded in death

by his wife, Allene Millican Cochran and a son, James “Cha Cha Bug” Cochran.

 

Mr. Cochran is survived by two grandchildren, Taft Cochran and Abby Cochran;

and one great-grandchild, Austin Cochran.

 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2014 at Mason Funeral

Home Chapel, with Rev. Joel Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Charles Everett “Cadillac” McSears Obit (M)

Mr. Charles Everett “Cadillac” McSears, age 78, of Summerville, GA , formerly of LaFayette, GA, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Kindred Hospital, Rome.

Mr. McSears was born June 9, 1935 in Walker County, GA, the son of the late Charles McSears and Lueolllie Powell McSears.  His parents, two brothers, and seven sisters have preceded him in death.

Mr. McSears attended school in the Walker County School System.  He was known and loved greatly.  He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist and was helpful to all who knew him.  We will remember him for his love for hats and how dignified he wore them.  He was inducted into the United States Army in 1953 and was honorably released from active duty in 1959.

He was married to the former and late Mrs. Ruby McSears.  As a dear husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. McSears loved his family.  For many years he was employed with General Motors where he retired in 1990.

Those who now remain and are devoted to his memory are his daughters and son-in-law, Mrs. Quby (Cornel) Brinkley, of Atlanta, GA, Ms. Linda Lawrence, of Summerville, GA; brother, Mr. Richard McSears, of Cleveland, Ohio; grandsons, Tommy (Denise) Lawrence and Charleston Brinkley; granddaughters, Rosie (Robert) Williamson and Selena (Melvin) Jones; Great grandchildren, Tommy Dakota Lawrence, Damaris Christopher, Shawn Lawrence, Johnathan Mayes, Josh Wells, and Jeremy Wells; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Mason Funeral Home with Bishop V. T. Harden officiating.  Burial will be in the Chattanooga National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Tommy Dakota Lawrence, Damarius Christopher, Shawn Lawrence, Johnathan Mayes, Josh Wells, and Jeremy Wells.  Flower Bearers will be Granddaughters.
