Mrs. Gracie Ruth Hall Obit (C)

Mrs. Gracie Ruth Hall, age 85, of Trion, Georgia, passed away Monday, February 10, 2014 at her residence.

Mrs. Hall was born in Crossville, Alabama on November 8, 1928, daughter of the late Archie Baldwin and Ruth Barnes Baldwin. She was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills where she worked in the office of the Shipping Department. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hall was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Faye Broom, and her first husband, Herman Broom.

Mrs. Hall is survived by her husband, Ralph Hall of Trion; daughters, Gayle Mitchell of East Ridge, TN, Pam Hall of Summerville and Becky Davis of Cedartown; sons, Ronnie Hall of Ringgold and Kenneth Hall of Trion; brother, Russell Baldwin; 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside and Interment services for Mrs. Hall will be held Friday, February 14, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in the Green Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Owen “Bud” Davis, Mr. Lee Wilcox and Mr. Max Baldwin officiating.

Pallbearers will be Cole Wilcox, Lee Wilcox, Jeff Mitchell, Jason Hall, Dustin Davis, Eric Hall and Ronnie Hall.

Mrs. Hall will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Friday morning from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour.

Mrs. Jewell Rogers Ellenburg, Complete Obit (M)

Mrs. Jewell Rogers Ellenburg, age 96, of Summerville, GA, passed away Saturday February 8, 2014, at the residence of her son.
Mrs. Ellenburg was born March 31, 1917, in Piedmont Alabama, the daughter of the late Colquitt and Hannah Parker Rogers.  She was also preceded death by her husband, James Harold Ellenburg, SR, and a son John Kenneth Ellenburg.
Survivors include her son, James Harold Ellenburg, Jr, sister, Bessie Couy, grandchildren, Debra Chance, Lisa Ellenburg Matthews, Beth Ellenburg Bright, 9 Great-grandchildren.

Mr. Frank Edward “Eddie” Jones, age 65 of Trion, 
GA, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2016 at his residence.

Mr. Jones was born in Atlanta, Georgia on April
 25, 1948, son of the late James Monroe Jones
 and Lula Mae White Holt.  He was a member of
 the Harrell Street Church of God and prior to 
retirement, was employed as a truck driver.  Mr.
 Jones loved to work and in his spare time,
 loved to build scale model ships.  He will be 
fondly remembered for his sense of humor.

Mr. Jones is survived by his children, Shea and
 Ken Czernik of Grandbury, TX, Frankie Jones of
 Summerville, Robbie Jones of Demorest, GA, Mike 
and Toni Jones of Trion, and Greg and Tera Jones 
of Trion; brothers, Jimmy Jones, Bill Holt, Ricky 
Jones and Johnny Holt; sisters, Judy Johnston, and
 Nancy Payne; BEST FRIEND, BRENDA JONES; grandchildren,

Mr. Robert “Bob”Smithson Obit (M)

Mr. Robert “Bob” Smithson, age 94,of Summerville, GA died Tuesday, February 4, 2014  at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Smithson was born September 5, 1919 in Berryton, GA, the son of the late Harry and Nellie Stokes Smithson.  He was the owner of Modern Cleaners for a number of years.  Mr. Smithson was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in WWII.  He was the oldest member of South Summerville Baptist Church, having become a member in 1938. He served for many years as a deacon of the church.  He was also a member of Gideon’s International.  Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Smithson; and a daughter, Sandra Morrison.

 Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Danny Wyatt; sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Narlene Smithson, Terry and Linda Smithson, Steve and Marcia Smithson; brothers, James Smithson and Billy Smithson; 10 Grandchildren; 18 Great Grandchildren; and 4 Great Great Grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jimmy Bryant officiating.  Graveside rites will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens conducted by Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 Honor Guard.  Active pallbearers will be Grandsons.  Honorary pallbearers will be all Deacons of South Summerville Baptist Church.

 

Mr. Smithson will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the service hour on Thursday.

Mrs. Barbara Carolyn Duke Obit (C)

Mrs. Barbara Carolyn Powell Duke, age 74, of Summerville, passed away Monday,
 February 3, 2014 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Duke was born in Summerville Georgia on November 21, 1939,
daughter of Frank Bowers and the late Mildred Nelson Bowers.  She 
was a member of the Perennial Springs Baptist Church and prior to
 retirement was employed with the Georgia Department of Transportation 
as a secretary and dispatcher.  Mrs. Duke loved to garden, planting 
flowers and spending time with her grandchildren.  In addition to 
her mother, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Vernon 
Cordell “Buck” Powell.

Mrs. Duke is survived by her husband, Charles Duke of
Summerville; sons, Barry Ross Powell and his companion, 
Helen, of San Fernandina Beach, FL, and Tyra Bryan Powell 
and his wife, Annie of Trion; daughter, Dawn Renee Anderson of Summerville; 
Father, Frank Bowers of Summerville; stepson, Alan Duke; 
stepdaughter, Amy Snipes; grandchildren, Shane Reece, 
Lacey Clark, Shay Polcheck, Christopher Powell, Skyler Powell, 
Estin Powell, Aydin Powell, Dakota Powell and Bryson Powell; 
great grandchildren, Gage Reece, Gavin Reece, Asher Clark, 
Briar Clark and Aaliyah Currelley.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Duke will be held Thursday,
February 6, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of 
the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Waydell Howell 
and Rev. Larry Scoggins officiating.  Interment will follow
 in the Green Hills Memory Gardens.

MR. GEORGE FLOYD DAWSON, age 80, of Gore-Subligna Road, Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday at his residence. Born in the Gore Community on July 4, 1933, was a son of the late Frank Jennings and Frances Elizabeth Floyd Dawson. Mr. Dawson was a well known cattle farmer and logger, a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, and a veteran of the U.S. Army
 
Surviving are His wife, Betty Dawson; daughter and spouse, Kay and Lawrence Broome of Summerville; grandson, John (Becky) Broome; granddaughter, Laura (C.J.) Cady; sisters-Frankie (Harold) Gordon of Gore and Jan (Harold) Ragland of Lyerly; Gene Dawson, Joe (Mary Frances) Dawson of Gore; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Mr. Rickey Louis Peek Obit (ER)

MR. RICKEY LOUIS PEEK, age 61, of Sizemore Road-Trion, Georgia passed away Friday, January 31, 2014, in a Rome hospital. He was born in Ft. Payne, Alabama on December 4, 1952, a son  of the late Billie Brewster Peek. He was a member of Springcreek Baptist Church, and was retired from the finishing department of Mt. Vernon Mills. Mr. Peek was an avid music lover, singing and playing in numerous bands for most of his life. He was preceded in death by step father, the late Robert Stancil.

Surviving are wife-Patsy Peek; step mother-Linda Stancil; son-David (Sherri) Peek of Calhoun; grandson-Brett Peek; sisters-Darlene Henderson of Ft. Payne, AL., Jan (Randy) Prince and Lynn (Steve) Evans all of Summerville, Gayle (Mark) Waycaster of Calhoun; brother-Michael (Cathy) Stancil of Adairsville; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Mrs. Bessie Irene Allen, age 90, of Summerville, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at her residence.

Mrs. Allen was born in Gaylesville, Alabama on August 23, 1923, daughter of the late William Harbin Coker and Cora Kate Kennedy Coker. She was member of the Summerville First United Methodist Church, and the Quarter Century Club. Mrs. Allen was an avid reader and was employed with Riegel/Mt. Vernon Mills for over 49 years, spending most of that time as a secretary in the bleaching department of the finishing plant. Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband, “Jim Allen”; sisters, Ophelia Chestnut, Louise Pearce, Pauline Hix, and Kathryn Payne; brothers, Fred Coker and Kennedy Coker.

Mrs. Allen is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Scott Bell of Summerville; sons and daughter-in-law, Tim and Nancy Allen of Casselberry, FL and Neal Fulton of Calhoun, GA; daughter-in-law, Cindy Fulton of Trion; brother, Billy Coker of Rome; Long-time Friend, Iris Plummer; grandchildren, Ryan Smith, Dee Fulton, Allyson Smith, Clint Bell, Scott Fulton, and Stephanie Fulton Cromer (Cody); great grandchildren, Jackson Herod and CJ Cromer; and a number of nieces and nephews.

MRS. BETTY DIANE LEONARD, age 58, of Shinbone Valley Road-Menlo, Georgia passed away Thursday, January 30, 2014, in a Rome hospital. Born in Trion, Georgia, She was a daughter of the late John C. Bandy and Betty June Green Bandy Pope who survives. She was a member of Chelsea Baptist Church and employed in the knitting department of Best Mfg. Company. Mrs. Leonard was preceded in death by a brother, the late John Duel Bandy.

Surviving are husband-Jimmy Leonard; mother and step father-Betty and Wayne Pope of Menlo; daughter-Connie Geimer of Centre, AL.; son-Jams Michael Leonard of Menlo; SPECIAL FRIEND-BECKY GABLE; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 1st, at 2:30 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, interment in Bandy Cemetery. The Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Friday from 6 until 8 P.M.
