Mr. Malcolm Lewis Payton Obit (M)

Mr. Malcolm Lewis Payton, age 62, of Summerville, GA, passed away Monday December 23, 2013, in Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

 

Mr. Payton was born July 10, 1951, in Trion, GA, the son of the late Lewis and Mittie Allen Payton. He was a veteran of the United States Navy.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Mark Payton.

 

Survivors include his children, Amanda Payton and Efren Fonceca,  Carrie Payton; brothers, Wayne Payton, Marvin Payton, Steve Payton, Anthony Payton, and Tim Payton; sisters, Sheila Hayslip, Janice Sink, Kathy Marbutt, and Sharron Gabriel; grandchildren, Kaidus

Fonceca, Tyleah Fonceca, and Donna Kincade.

 

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Mason

Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Malcom Harris and Rev. Gary Howell officiating.

Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Allen

Marbutt, Chris Payton, Randall Payton, Kevin Gorham, Jacob Smith, and Eric Brock.

Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center,

F Hall.

Mr. Robert “Rocky” Gordon Lane Obit (M)

Mr. Robert “Rocky” Gordon Lane, age 85, of Summerville, GA, died Sunday, December 22, 2013, at his residence.

 

Mr. Lane was born September 30, 1928, in Summerville, GA, son of the late Charlie and Dolly Payton Lane.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, was a member of the New Antioch Baptist Church, and prior to retirement, was employed with Mohawk.  He also operated Rocky’s Woodcrafts.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wilene Lane whom he married on December 23, 1954; daughter, Debbie Lane; and sisters, Velma Lane, Verna Adams, Edna Pritchett, and Aileen McConkey.

 

Mr. Lane is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Kim Lane of Summerville, GA, Charles and Kristi Lane of Dallas, GA; brother and sister-in-law; Clarence and Ozena Lane of Henagar, AL; sister, Mildred Wilkerson of Trion, GA; grandchildren, Brandy and Mark Jackson of LaFayette, GA, Lacey and Shaun Wooten of Summerville, GA, Matthew Lane and Chase Lane of Dallas, GA; great-grandchildren, Jared and Lane White of LaFayette, GA, Selena Watkins of Summerville, GA, and Makenzie Dean of Dallas, GA; and special friends, Cheryl Hyatt, Buddy and Sheila Gentry, and Laura Dean.

 

Funeral services for Mr. Lane will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, December 23, 2013, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harold Helton officiating.  Burial will follow in the Summerville Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Buddy Gentry, Paul Purcell, Shaun Wooten, Mark Jackson, David Dean, and Matthew Lane.  Honorary pallbearers will be the member of New Antioch Baptist Church, the residents of the Saratoga Apartments, and the employees of the Mount Berry Hospice.

Mrs. Dorothy Loggins Griffith Obit (M)

Mrs. Dorothy Loggins Griffith, age 87, of Summerville, GA, passed away Thursday December 19, 2013, in Carterville Medical Center.

 

Mrs. Griffith was born Feb. 17, 1926, in Trion, GA, the daughter of the late Frank and Ola Littlejohn Loggins.  She was a member of the Ridgeway Baptist Church and was formerly employed with Fuller Jewelry.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Griffith, SR., and a daughter, Anna Jane Griffith.

 

Survivors include her son, Troy Griffith, JR and wife, Tammy Griffith, of Adairsville, GA, grandchildren, Troy “Tripp” Griffith, III, and Traci Griffith; sisters, Pauline

Loggins and Irene Lancaster.

 

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Sunday, December 22, 2013, at Mason

Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Norton officiating.  Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Tripp Griffith, Kenneth Blansit, Waymon Blansit, Sean Maxwell, Wayne Lancaster, Billy Dewayne Cline, Elliott Rountree, and Delane Blansit.  Honorary pallbearers will be Joe McDonald, and all residents and staff of Star

Mrs. Clara Susanne “Sue” Floyd Obit (M)

Mrs. Clara Susanne “Sue” Floyd, age 69, of Cumming, GA, (formerly of

Summerville, GA,) died Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Embracing Hospice.

 

Mrs. Floyd was born August 8, 1944 in Miami, FL, the daughter of the late

Weldon and Lillian Hooper Dickson.  She was a homemaker.  Other than her parents, Mrs. Floyd was preceded in death by her husband, Emerson Eugene Floyd; and a son, Duane Roberts.

 

Survivors include a daughter, Angela Stratford; son, Greg Roberts; step-sons,

Jerry Floyd, James Floyd, and Gary Floyd; sister, Hilma Tune Ardito; a number

of Grandchildren; and several Great Grandchildren.

 

Graveside and interment services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Oakhill Cemetery with Rev. Jack Gillespie officiating. 

 

Mrs. Floyd will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends

Mrs. Cindy Campbell Brown Obit (C)

Mrs. Cindy Campbell Brown, age 48, of Trion, Georgia, passed away Friday, December 13, 2013 at her residence.

Mrs. Brown was born Trion, Georgia on February 17, 1965, daughter of Tony Campbell and the late Charlene Steele Campbell. She attended the Teloga Baptist Church and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Prior to ill health, Mrs. Brown had been employed as a cosmetologist, and a sales associate of the Family Dollar, but is most remembered for working in the lunchroom of Summerville Middle School.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, Scott Brown; daughters and sons-in-law, Jessica Brown Grimes and her husband, Joshua, and Mashell Lashai Willis and her husband, Jimmie C. Willis, Jr.; father, Tony Campbell; Brother, Anthony “Zipper” Campbell; sisters, Angela Camp and Nicole Campbell Howard; grandchildren, Maddox Willis, Maverick Willis, Memphis Grimes, Peyton Grimes, and Olivia Grimes; and dear friends, Dicey and Ken Staton and Tina and Paul Powers.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Brown will be held Monday, December 16, 2013 at 3:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Donnie Carver officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Fred Wedgeworth (W)

Mr. Fred Wedgeworth, age 66, of Summerville, Ga passed away Tuesday,

December 10, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Edward

and Mae Ella Wedgeworth, one sister Ollie Mae Hudgins, and six brothers, Harvey,

Matthew, L.C. Felton, Robert Jr., and Steve Wedgeworth.

He is survived one sister, Ella Wedgeworth; three brothers and spouses, 

Andrew and Ruby Wedgeworth, Harry and Susan Wedgeworth, and Henry and

Christanater Wedgeworth, all of Summerville; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,

other relatives and friends.

Homegoing Service will be held Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. from

the West Fifth Street Church of Christ with Bro. J.J. Bankston and Pastor John Lewis

officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church one hour before the service.

Mrs. Patricia Ann Smith Obit (M)

Mrs. Patricia Ann Smith, age 60P, of Summerville, GA died Wednesday,

December 11, 2013, at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

 

Mrs. Smith was born August 3, 1953 in Leesburg, AL, the daughter of Bertie

Malinda Gayler and the late Doyle Gayler.  She was a homemaker, wife, mother,

and Grandmother.

 

Survivors include her husband, Jerry R. Smith; children, Shawn Rubi and Jerry

E. Smith; daughter, Freedom Nabors; mother, Bertie Gayler; brothers, Milton

Livingston and Robert Gayler; and 10 Grandchildren.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be held at 2:00 p. m. Friday, December 13,

2013 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne Killian officiating.

Mrs. Freda Jean Elrod Obit (M)

Mrs. Freda Jean Elrod, age 74, of Summerville, GA, passed away Tuesday December 10, 2013, at Floyd Medical Center.

Mrs. Elrod was born August 26, 1939, in  Dyersburg, TN, the daughter of the late Alvin Dennis and Ollie Bernice Ramsey Inman. She was a loyal member of the Berryton Church of God for 72 years, serving as Sunday School Secretary for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Elrod, son, Dwight Elrod, sister, Judy Majors. Jean loved her family and friends. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved life so very much. She was devoted to the Lord and spent much of her time with her church family. She had many special friends. She loved people so much and never met a stranger. She was a precious, joyous and loving soul that made the world a brighter place.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Randy & Michelle Elrod, Dennis & Peggy Elrod, grandchildren, Jeremy & Crystal Elrod, Brittany Elrod, Justin Elrod, Taylor Elrod, Chelsa Chambers.  Great-grandchildren, Ramsey and Addison Elrod.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday December 8, 2013, from the Berryton Church of God with Rev. Bill Cox and Rev. Jason Lee officiating with interment in the West Hill  Cemetery. Mr. Brinkley was born in Tunnel Hill, Georgia on March 27, 1934, son of the late Robert Andrew Brinkley and Daisy Plott Brinkley. He was 9 year veteran of the United States Army, attended the Old Way Baptist Church and prior to retirement, was employed as a mechanic with Mohawk Industries. In addition to his parents, Mr. Brinkley was preceded in death by a daughter, Becky Brinkley; brothers, Tom Brinkley, Jim Brinkley, and Jerry Brinkley; and sisters, Mary Cummings and Janie Holbrook.

Mr. Brinkley is survived by his wife, Betty Brinkley; sons and daughter-in-law, Terry Brinkley and Randy and Julie Brinkley; brothers, Robert Brinkley and David Brinkley; sister, Louise Cummings; brothers-in-law, Winston Renfroe and Herman Wilbanks; one granddaughter, Brianna Hill and her husband, Matt; special niece, Patty Lee; special young man, Casey Smith and a number of nieces and nephews.
