Mrs. Joanne Sumner Hill Obit (EP)


   Mrs. Joann Sumner Hill age 74, of  Harrisburg Road, Summerville, GA                                                                passed away Thursday,  December 12, 2012 at Heritage Healthcare at  Shepherd

Hills.  Mrs. Hill was born June 16, 1938 in Summerville, GA to the late Elmer

“Pete” Sumner and Maggie Chappelear Sumner.  She was married to the late

William M. “Bill” Hill.  In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a

brother, Charles Sumner, Sr.; her niece, Eleanor “Cissy” Sumner; and a very

special cousin, Renae Money.

 

    Mrs. Hill was a member of New Hope North Baptist Church.  She was retired

from the Cloth Room at Mount Vernon Mills.

 

   Survivors include 3 wonderful nephews, Charles “Butch”, William, and Richard

Sumner; 2 nieces-in-law, Melanie and Melody Sumner; 3 great-nieces, Charis, Caitlan,

and Margelen Sumner; 3 great-nephews, Kencade, Cole, and Raeden Sumner; 2 step

great-nephews, Justin Wilbanks and Drake Cabe; sister-in-law, Peggy Sumner; and

aunts, Edith Studdard of LaFayette, GA and Myrtis Chappelear of Chamblee, GA;

 and several cousins.  Her family was her life.

 

   Graveside and interment services will be conducted Saturday, December 15, 2012

at 2:00 p.m. from the West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Ralph Sumner officiating.

 Interment will be in West Hill Cemetery.

 

   Visitation will be Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home

 where the family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to  2:00 p.m.

 

    Pallbearers will be family.

Mrs. Maria Lynn Steele Obit (M)

Ms. Maria Lynn Steele, age 36, of LaFayette, GA died Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Erlanger Medical Center.

 

Ms. Steele was born July 21, 1976 in Fort Oglethorpe, GA, the daughter of Jerry Garland “Babe” Steele and the late Kathrine Pendergrass Steele.  Other than her

mother, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Suzanne Steele.

 

Survivors include her father, Garland “Babe” Steele; step-sister, Carie Latham;

step-brother, Adam Trammell; and several Uncles, Aunts, and Cousins.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, December 15, 2012 at

Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Autry officiating.  Burial will

follow in LaFayette Memory Gardens.  Active pallbearers will be Rick Deberry,

Joe Steele, Larry Steele, Doug Beliakoff, Douglas Steele, and Bobby Hannah.

 

Ms. Steele will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive

friends from 12:00 noon until the service hour on Saturday.

Mrs. Willie Mae Hogg Obit (M)

Mrs. Willie Mae Hogg, age 96, of Menlo, Georgia, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Ross Memorial Healthcare in Kennesaw.

 

Mrs. Hogg was born in Alpine, Georgia on May 16, 1916, daughter of the late Tom Carter and Maude Chappelear Carter.  She was a member of the Menlo Church of Christ.  Prior to retirement she was employed by Tri County Hospital and Hutcheson Medical Center.  Mrs. Hogg was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Hogg; daughter, Winifred Hogg, and a sister, Clara Nell Hester.

 

Mrs. Hogg is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Jerrel Hogg and Flora Cook, Loran and Nancy Hogg; 7 Grandchildren; 12 Great grandchildren; 3 Great-great grandchildren.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Hogg will be held Sunday, December 16, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Minister Emerson Blythe officiating.  Interment will follow in the Alpine Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Kenny Hogg, Mike Hogg, Brian Hogg, Barry Hogg, Bill Kinzy, and Tim Willingham.

 

Mrs. Hogg will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.

 

The family respectfully asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Alpine Cemetery Fund.

Mr. Tommy Lee Cameron Obit (Wright)

Mr. Tommy Lee Cameron age 88 of 1991 Sling Rd., Aragon, GA passed on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Redmond Regional Medical Center. He was born in Sylacauga Alabama on May 14, 1924 son of the late Hodges Cameron and Emma Lou Cameron.
 
Survivors include one brother, Lourie Cameron; children, Hazel Smith, Emma Chaney, Annie Lois Owens, Tommy R. Cameron, Cheryl Beedles, Annie Bray, Pearline Willingham, Betty J. Johnson, and Janice Billingslea; 39 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends also survive.
 
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 2 PM at New Spirit and Truth of Jesus Christ, Summerville, GA with Rev. James Loveless officiating. Interment will follow in AMI Cemetery.

RENEA  GAIL   RUSSELL  age  62  of  LaFayette  died  Saturday  December  08,  2012  at  her  home.
Preceded  in  death  by  her  father  Robert  Baker, Jr.  and  a  brother  Terry  Lee  Baker.
Survived  by  her  husband  John   Russell  of  LaFayette,  daughters  Teena  Wesson,  Regina  Fitzgerald-Ellis,  both  LaFayette,  Terra  Jackson,  Chickamauga,  mother  Barbara  Cordell  Baker,  Chickamauga,  sister  Janet  Everett,  Canton,  brothers  Bobby  Baker,  Eddie  Baker  both  Rock  Spring,  six  grandchildren,  three  great  grandchildren,  several  nieces  and  nephews  also  survive.
Funeral  from  the  Wallis  Memorial  Chapel  Tuesday  at  11:00  A. M.  Service  conducted  by  Rev.  J. D. Gibson  and  Rev. Malcolm  Harris.
The  family  will  receive  friends  at  the  Funeral  Home  Monday from  6:00  to  9:00  P. M.
Interment  in  Corinth  Baptist  Church  Cemetery.

Mrs. Willadean “Nanny” Womack (Obit) M

Mrs. Willadean “Nanny” Womack, age 81, of Summerville, GA died Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Summit Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

 

Mrs. Womack was born May 29, 1931 in Pikeville, TN, the daughter of the late

Ira Brock and Dora Hickbottom Brock.  She was a homemaker and a member

of Subligna Baptist Church.  Other than her parents, she was preceded in

death by her husband, Millard Womack; and 11 Brothers and Sisters.

 

Survivors include her children, Glenn Womack, Jack Womack, Shirley

Baugh, Kathy Grigsby, and Margie Cooper; 12 Grandchildren; and 39 Great Grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, December 13, 2012 at

Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carlos Brock officiating.  Burial

will follow in Subligna Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Steven Womack,

Tim Womack, Jeffery Womack, Stacey Womack, Chris Cooper, and

Mrs. Lois Marie Hitt Obit (M)

Mrs. Lois Marie Hitt, age 73, of Thomaston, GA, formerly of Summerville, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2012 at the Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Hitt was born in Savannah, Tennessee on March 9, 1939, daughter of the late Willie Leonard Hunt and Mamie Jewell Butler Hunt. She attended the Lyerly First Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Mrs. Hitt was preceded in death by sister, Jina Jones; brothers, Chester Hunt, Lester Hunt, Kenneth Leon Hunt, Billy Wondell Hunt, George William Henry “Pete” Hunt, and W.R. Hunt; and a grandson, Preston Allen Austin.

Mrs. Hitt is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Angel Marie and Chuck Garner and Amanda Gina and David Locke; brother and sister-in-law, James W. and Irene Hunt; sisters and brother-in-law, Reba Clark, Joyce Johnson, Judy Klimp and Paulette and Toby Worley; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Hitt will be held Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. James Baird officiating. Interment will follow in the Lyerly Cemetery.

Mr. Bill Don “Pop” Gilley Obit (M)

Mr. Billy Don “Pop” Gilley, age 69, of Menlo, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the Floyd Medical Center.
 
Mr. Gilley was born in Menlo, Georgia on November 14, 1943, son of the late O.E. “Zeke” Gilley and Jessie Ethel Willingham Gilley.  He was a member of the Chelsea Baptist Church, the AMI Cemetery Committee and prior to retirement was employed with T.I.C. Electrical Contractors. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gilley was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Gilley Hogg.
 
Mr. Gilley is survived by his wife, Sue Bailey Gilley; sons, Tony Gilley and Randy Gilley; brother, G.H. “Bud” Gilley; sister, Dot Cavin; 2 grandchildren, Brandi Gilley and Granville Gilley; and three Great grandchildren, Alyson Christol, Coby Gilley and Kendyl Gilley.
 
Funeral Services for Mr. Gilley will be held Monday, December 10, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Wilborn officiating. Interment will follow in the AMI Cemetery.

Mrs. Hilda Imogene Brown Obit (M)

Mrs. Hilda Imogene Reece Brown, age 87, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Friday, December 7, 2012 at her residence.

Mrs. Brown was born in Lyerly, Georgia on January 9, 1925, daughter of the late Pless E. Reece and Ollie Bell Dempsey Reece. She was a member of the New Antioch Baptist Church and was a retired homemaker. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her first husband, James Clarence Brown, Jr., second husband, Preston McSpadden; sons, Stacy Wayne Brown and Steven Elbert Brown, and sisters, Gladys Hall, Leatha Pledger, and Jewell Copeland, and brothers, Hollis Reece, and Hope Reece.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her children, Zachery Trent and Brandi Brown, Mike and Sue Brown, Marcia Parish and Bryan Aldridge, and Vicki and Mike Hargrove; sister, Lloyd Sentell; sister-in-law, Suzan Brown; 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 10, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Pace and Chaplain Alan Fuller officiating. Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery.

Mrs. Buel P. Hawkins Obit (ER)

MRS. BUELL P. HAWKINS, age 93, of Turner Road-Rome, Georgia passed away Saturday, December 8, 2012, in the local nursing home. A native of Chattooga County, She was born to the late Ralph David and Vera Cox Pickle on July 1, 1919. Mrs. Hawkins was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church, retired house keeper from Northwest Georgia Regional Hospital, and was preceded in death by her husband the late Ralph David Hawkins, also several Sisters and Brothers. Surviving are daughters-Judy Touchstone of Rome and Kay Ellen Turner of Augusta; sons-Robert William (Bob) Hawkins of Lyerly and Hugh David Hawkins of Augusta; brother-Frank Pickle of Summerville; Ten Grandchildren; several Great Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews also survive. Memorial service will be held Sunday, December 9th, at 4:00 P.M. from the Oak Hill Cemetery, Honorary Pallbearers the Nurses and Staff of Oak View Nursing & Rehab. Center.
