Mr. William Gardner Fountain Obit (M)

 

Mr. William Gardner Fountain, age 67, of Summerville, GA died Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at his residence.

Mr. Fountain was born January 24, 1945 in Trion, GA, the son of the late James Austin Fountain and Flora Gardner Fountain. He had formerly worked at Best Manufacturing. Mr. Fountain was a member of Big Sky RC Club. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Billy Wayne Fountain, Raymond James Fountain, and Gary Len Fountain; and a grandson, Steven James “ Jamie” Fountain.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Steven Gardner and Stacy Fountain, Jeffery Len and Tara Fountain; daughter, Kimberly Dawn Rogers; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and J V Morris; 8 Grandchildren; and a number of Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Friday, December 7, 2012 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Russell officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Butch Gardner, David Gardner, Stewart Toles, Larry Stephens, Jerry Crabtree, and Marlin Bowling. Honorary pallbearers will be all members of Big Sky RC Club, Ronnie Spraggins, and Jerry Spears.

Mr. Fountain will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m Thursday, December 6, 2012.

 

Mr. Gerald Henry Boss Obit (EP)

Mr. Gerald Henry Boss, age 85 of Oak Hill Drive, Trion, GA passed away Monday, December 3, 2012 at Hutcheson Medical Center.  Mr. Boss was born in LaFayette, GA on January 14, 1927.  He was a Veteran of the United States Army, was retired from Mount Vernon Mills with 45 years of service, was a member of the Quarter Century Club, and was a member of the Trion First Baptist Church.

   Mr. Boss was preceded in death by father and mother, Roy Lee and Biddie Lee Lawrence Boss; sister, Frances Anderson; and brothers, LeBron Boss and Clint Clifford Boss.

   Mr. Boss is survived by wife, Bobbie Scoggins Boss; Daughters and Sons-in-law, Linda and Ricky Gilreath, Jo and Clita Boss-Etris, and Cheryl and Terry Adams; grandchildren, Crystal Clark, Jason Clark, Nathan Clark, Justin Clark, Kimberly Arnold, Carrie Allmon, and Keeta Redcay; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Florence Burrell and Patricia Boss.

   Funeral services will be Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Dr. Warren Moorehead officiating.  Interment will be in Greenhills Memory Gardens.  

   Visitation will be Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Pallbearers will be Janssen Redcay, Chris Arnold, Justin Clark, Steve Boss, Justin Allmon, and Charles Boss.

Ms. Laura Lynette Dotson Obit (M)

Ms. Laura Lynette Dotson, age 39, of Lyerly, GA passed away Friday November 30, 2012 in Hollywood, AL. Ms. Dotson was born August 1, 1973, in Cornelia, GA, she was a health care giver and a member of the West Berryton Faith Temple. Survivors include her sons, Sean Dewight Dotson, Zachary Allan Dotson, mother, Ellen Robinson, father, Stanley Crawford, brother, Kevin Wayne Crawford.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday December 4, 2012 from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Mann and Rev. Steve Barnes officiating with interment in the Johnson Cemetery. Active pallbearers, Mack Burke, Nathan Bailey, Kevin Crawford, Drake Crawford, Jacob Jones, Corey Crawford. Mrs. Geneva Henley Obit (M)

Mrs. Geneva S. Henley, age 86, of Summerville, GA died Saturday, December 1, 2012 at her residence. Mrs. Henley was born December 19, 1925 in Cave Spring, GA , the daughter of the late John R. Stephens, SR and Ethel Gertude Sills Stephens . She was a retired High School Teacher from the Chattooga County School System, a member of the Summerville Presbyterian Church, Two-Time S.T.A.R. Teacher, Faculty advisor to student council, Order of Eastern Star. Where she served as Worthy Matron, member of Kappa Kappa Iota, where she was past president. she loved to sew and to play bridge. She was preceded in death by her husband, D. P. Henley and a sister Sally Coulliette. Mrs. Henley is survived by son and daughter-in-law, David P. & Susan Henley, of Rome, GA, daughter, Ginger Henley, Summerville, GA, granddaughter, Maura Henley, Rome, GA, brother and sister-in-law, John R. and Carol Stephens, Maxeys, GA, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Monday, December 3, 2012 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ken Terrell officiating. Burial will follow in Summerville Cemetery. Mrs. Henley will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 2:00 p. m. until 5:00 p. m. Sunday, December 2, 2012.

 

Ms. Teresa Ann (Terry) Gentry Obit (ER)

MS. TERESA ANN (TERRY) GENTRY, age 52, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday morning, November 30, 2012, in a Rome hospital. She was born in Summerville, Georgia on April 11, 1960, a daughter of the late Robert Joseph Gentry and Sarah Ann Wells Gentry who survives.

Besides her mother Ms. Gentry is survived by a sister and brother-in-law Sherrie and Steven Helton of Summerville; Brother and sister-in-law John and Teresa Gentry of Cartersville. Nephew Will Gentry and Niece Eryn Gentry. Several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 2nd, at 3:00 P.M. from graveside in West Hill Cemetery with Jeff Burns and John Paul Burns officiating. Active Pallbearers will be John Gentry, Steven Helton, Michael Herring, Brian Payton, Jeff Burns and Charles Gentry. The Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Sunday from 1:00 until the service hour.

Mr. Huston Joseph “Joe” Layman Obit (M)

Mr. Huston Joseph “Joe” Layman, age 95, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at the Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Layman was born in Durrant, Oklahoma on January 27, 1917, son of the late Thomas Milton Layman and Florence Jolly Layman.  He was a member of the Trion First Baptist Church, the VFW, and was a veteran of WWII, having served in the United States Army, and prior to retirement, was employed with Reigel Textile for 33 years.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Layman was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Christy Lynn Thackerson.

Mr. Layman is survived by a son, Thomas J. Layman; daughter, Betty Lou Brown; and two grandchildren, Beth Thacker and Beckey Patterson.

Graveside and Interment Services will be held Friday, November 30, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the West Hill Cemetery with Pastor Edward Skoretz officiating.

Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Mitchell Blackmon, II, Dylan Connelly Hatcher, Michael Putnam and Michael Raines.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Employees and Staff of Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Dr. Earl Beatty Jr. Obit (ER)

DR. EARL BEATTY, JR., age 92, of Fort Valley, Georgia passed away Monday, November 26, 2012. Born in Summerville, Georgia on December 11, 1919 to the late Dr. Earl Beatty, Sr. and Addie Willard Beatty. A graduate of Darlington School and Emory University School of Dentistry, He was a Veteran of WW II serving in the Army as Regimental Dental Surgeon of the 508th Parachute Infantry. He saw combat in Europe and served as General Eisenhower’s Honor Guard at USFET Headquarters in Germany after the war ended in 1945. He remained in the Reserves and was transferred to the Air Force with service in Korea and Viet Nam until retirement in 1973 with the rank of Colonel. Dr. Beatty was a member of numerous dental associations, serving as President of the Central Dental Society in 1967. He was an elder in the Fort Valley Presbyterian Church, a Mason, Shriner, and member of many other civic organizations. He was preceded in death by first wife, Martha Rackley Beatty and second wife, Nita Wilder Graham Beatty. Surviving are son and wife, Earl (Jean) Beatty, III; stepson, James E. Graham; four Grandchildren and two Great Grandchildren. Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 1st, at 11 A.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, interment in the Family lot of Summerville Cemetery with full military honors. Mr. Nicholas “Nick” Ledbetter (Perry)

Nicholas Lee “Nick” Ledbetter, age 18 of Centre, passed away Sunday, November 25th at Floyd Hospital in Rome, GA.

Funeral services will be 1:PM Saturday, December 1st at Perry Funeral Home Chapel; burial will follow in Cherokee Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:PM Friday.

Pallbearers include Bill White, Robert Vanco, Bobby Stone, Jacob Peek, Vernon Ash and Michael Fuller.

Memorials may be made to a trust fund for his daughters or they will accept flowers.

Survivors include daughters, Kaitlee Ledbetter and Gracie Ledbetter both of Centre; parents, Sean Ledbetter of Mentone; mother Tammy Ledbetter of Centre; step-mother, Lynn Ledbetter; brothers, Derrick Ledbetter of Plainville, GA and Bill White of Mentone; sisters, Robi Ledbetter of Centre and Carrie Ash of Lafayette, GA; grandparents, Tommy & Barbara Vines of Centre and Euberta Ledbetter of Centre.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather Robert Ledbetter.

Mr. Ledbetter was born in Jackson, AL. and was of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Emma Ruth Shropshire Obit (M)

Mrs. Emma Ruth Shropshire, age 79, of Summerville, GA went home to be with her Lord on Friday, November 23, 2012.

 Mrs. Shropshire was born March 8, 1933 in Chattooga County, GA, the daughter of the late Archie Guy Stewart and Lucille Todd Stewart. She was a member of the New Spirit and Truth of Jesus Christ Church. Mrs. Shropshire was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Randolph Shropshire, SR; and a son, Randolph Shropshire, JR.

Survivors include a son, Jimmy Ray Shropshire; daughters and son-in-law, Betty Jean Shropshire & Milton McDaniel, Partick Ann Shropshire, Jeanette Shropshire Glenn, and Aletha Michelle Shropshire; brother, Robert Earl Miller; sisters and brother-in-law, Rosie Lee and James Stamper, and Bessie London; Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.

 Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at New Spirit and Truth of Jesus Christ with Bishop V. T. Hardin officiating. Burial will follow in Lyerly Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alex Haynes, Duran Shropshire, Rapheal Shropshire, Micheal McDaniel, Perez Shropshire, Taylor Shropshire, Mark McDaniel, and Tovy Shropshire. Flower bearers will be granddaughters, Tameesha Shropshire, Carmen McDaniel, Nicole Shropshire, Crystal McDaniel, Cherie McDaniel, and Aiesha Ashley.

Mrs. Mary Lina Fletcher Obit (M)

Mrs. Mary Lina Fletcher, age 78, of Summerville, GA died Monday, November 26, 2012 at her residence.

Mrs. Fletcher was born September 20, 1934 in Summerville, GA, the daughter of the late Henry A. and Doreen Seargeat Powell. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church PCA. Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Fletcher, SR.

Mrs. Fletcher is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Herman and Alison Fletcher, David and Karen Fletcher, and Alan and Jeffney Fletcher; grandchildren, David Fletcher, JR, Ashley Fletcher, Maci Fletcher, Allie Fletcher, Jamie Fletcher,and Jessica Fletcher; great grandchildren, Evan Fletcher and Callie Fletcher.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 3:30 p. m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Summerville Cemetery. Rev. Greg King will officiate.
