Mr. Archie Herman “Humpy” Hegwood Obit (M)

Mr. Archie Herman “ Humpy” Hegwood, age 87, of LaFayette, GA died Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Heritage Health Care.

Mr. Hegwood was born February 10, 1925 in LaFayette, GA, the son of the late William Perry Hegwood and Emma Cornelia Curry Hegwood. He was retired from Riegel Textile. He was a lifelong member of Second Baptist Church LaFayette, and he was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church, Chickamauga. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Parker Hegwood; sisters, Thelma Montgomery and Eula Bauchum; and brothers, Fred Hegwood, Bill Hegwood, Roy Hegwood, Alton Hegwood, and Walton Hegwood.

Mr. Hegwood is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Linda Hegwood; grandson and wife, Neil and Joella Hegwood; great grandchild, Abbigail Hegwood; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Tuesday, November 13, 2012 in LaFayette City Cemetery. Rev. Mike Peterson and Rev. Chuck Romaine will officiate. Active pallbearers will be Randall Cagle, Lloyd Mitchell, Jerry Keown, Buddy Day, Bob Chapman, and Barry Hollis.

Mr. Hegwood will be in state at Second Baptist Church and the family will receive friends from 11:30 until 12:30 on Tuesday, November 13, 2012.

Mr. Clyde Wiley McGraw Obit (M)

Mr. Clyde Wiley McGraw, age 90, of Summerville, GA died Thursday, November 8, 2012, at Floyd Medical Center.

Mr. McGraw was born November 2, 1922 in Trion, GA, the son of the late Clyde Walker McGraw and Lula Yeardy McGraw. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he earned the following ribbons and stars: The American Area, the Asiatic-Pacific with two bronze stars, the Philippine Liberation Campaign with one bronze star. He was also a trusted Shellback in the Ancient Order of the Deep and a member of the Domain of the Golden Dragon. In addition to his parents, Mr. McGraw was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth McGraw.

Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-law, Tony and Peggy McGraw, and Garner C. McGraw.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, November 11, 2012 in the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Falkner, MS. Rev. Rickie Lockart will officiate.

Mr. McGraw will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 5:oo until 6:00 p.m. Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Mason Funeral Home, Summerville, GA and from 1:00 until 2:00 p. m. on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church in Falkner, MS.

Mrs. Bertha Mae Jackson Obit (EP)

Mrs. Bertha Mae Jackson, age 97, a long time resident of Trion, GA died at the home of her daughter in Summerville.  Mrs. Jackson was born on September 8, 1915, in Haralson County, GA, to the late Rev. L. D. Wilson and the late Omie Frances Robinson Wilson.  She was married for 52 years to the late Paul Edward "Ed" Jackson who died February 3, 1986.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Edward Quinton "Jack" Jackson; her daughter, Sarah Ann Jackson Greene; her granddaughter, Susan Lynnette "Lynne" Greene; her grandson, Darrell Wayne Jackson; sisters, Minnie Lahrman, Ruth Robinson Phillips, Velma Stephens, Bernice White, Alma Connell; brothers, Denman Wilson, and Albert Wilson.

Mrs. Jackson was the oldest member of Mountain View Baptist Church.  She loved her church very much and before her health began to fail, she attended every service.

Survivors include:  her daughter and sons-in-law, Evelyn Sue Jackson Greene and Robert J. "Bob" Greene and Fred V. Greene of Woodstock, GA.  Grandchildren:  Roger Jackson of Heflin, AL, Thomas Jackson of Oxford, AL; Granddaughters: Karen and Andy West of Carrollton, GA, Angie and Todd Hughes of Woodstock, GA; Great-grandchildren:  Joshua and Michele Shadrick of Athens, GA, Kyle Jackson and Sydney Jackson of Heflin, AL, Wayne and Mitchell Jackson of Oxford, AL, Justin Hughes and Whitney Hughes of Woodstock, GA, Andrea West and Jonathan West of Carrollton, GA and great great granddaughter, Sydney Shadrick of Athens, GA;  sister, Eleanor Sudduth of Waco, GA and brother, Elbert Wilson of Jacksonville, AL.  Also, a very special caregiver, Lacy Wooten.

Services will be in the funeral home chapel Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Jerry Mahan and Rev. Kevin Norton officiating.  Interment will be in West Hill Cemetery.  The family will be receiving friends from 12:30 p.m. until the hour of service on Saturday.

Pallbearers will be grandsons:  Joshua Shadrick, Justin Hughes, Jonathan West, Todd Hughes, Andy West,  and Danny Greene.

Mr. Deforest Eugene Hogg

Mr. Deforest Eugene Hogg, age 86, of Summerville, GA died Sunday, November 4, 2012 at Floyd Medical Center.

 Mr. Hogg was born May 30, 1926, the son of the late Marcus Judson Hogg and Maggie Thomas Hogg.  He was retired from the United States Army with 10 years of service, the United States Air Force, with 12 years of service and was retired from the Civil Service. Mr. Hogg served in WWII, Vietnam, and Korea.  Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Kazue “Betty” Hogg; his second wife, Violet Lee Hamby Tate Hogg; sister, Madelyn Young; and brothers, Hugh Hogg and James Thomas “Tom” Hogg.

 Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Gil Takemori; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Mike Lanier; brother, Morris Hogg; grandchildren, Madeline Takemori and Nathan Takemori; special friends, Shirley Pope and Thomas Cole; nieces, nephews and cousins.

 Memorial services will be held at 7:30 p. m. Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Macedonia Chapel at Camp Hamby with Rev. Neale Lanigan officiating.

Burial will be in Sanger Cemetery in Sanger, California.

 The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p. m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at the Main Cabin of Camp Hamby.

Mrs. Carolyn Jeanette Shore

Mrs. Carolyn Jeanette Shore, age 84, of Trion, Georgia passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at her residence. Mrs. Shore was born in Trion, Georgia on September 4, 1928, daughter of the late Roy Dow Clifton and Lilly Belle Barnett Clifton.  She was a retired salesperson with Stanley Home Products.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shore was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Zell Shore; son, Cliff Shore; sister, Margaret Clifton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dee Troy and Johnnie Bean Clifton and Roy Zell Clifton, Jr. and Oleeta “Little Head” Clifton.

Mrs. Shore is survived by a sons and daughter-in-law, Dow and Kelley Shore and Montage Choate; 2 grandchildren, Breann Shore and Brittany Helms; a great granddaughter, Heaven Helms; special cousin, Marie Jones; special friends, Louise Tapp and Jim and Reba Long; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Shore will be held Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. John Leatherwood officiating.

 Mrs. Shore will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 4 until 6 PM.
