Mrs. Mattie Maxey, age 94, of Summerville, GA died Friday, July 27, 2012 at Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Maxey was born May 3, 1918 in Smithville, TN, the daughter of the late George Cantrell and Cora Ervin Cantrell. She was a housewife. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Smith, a son, Jerry Branch, a brother, Rev. James Cantrell; sisters, Pauline Tracy and Audrey Sullivan; and a grandson, Dennis Cooper.
Mrs. Maxey is survived by a daughter, Barbara Knowles; 6 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside and interment services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, July 29, 2012 at West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Lavon Humphries officiating.
Mrs. Maxey will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family willreceive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Saturday, July 28, 2012.
Mr. Charles Darrell Patterson, age 60, of Menlo, GA died Thursday, July 26, 2012, at his residence.
Mr. Patterson was born February 16, 1952 in Rome, GA, the son of Lillie Nix and the late Dexter Patterson. He was employed with Mt. Vernon Mills and was a member of the Summerville Pentecostal Worship Center. Mr. Patterson was a very talented Artist, Musician and Songwriter.
Mr. Patterson is survived by his wife, Nancy Patterson; children, Jurome Patterson, Crystal Patterson Tucker and husband, John Tucker; brothers, Steve Patterson, Ricky Patterson, and Timothy Patterson; grandchildren, Leanna Porter and Zack Tucker; and a number of nieces nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 29, 2012 at 3:30 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Andy Hutchins and Rev. Kevin Woods officiating. Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Steve Woodman, Mike Burnley, Sammy Dean, W M Parker, Kip Vaughn, and Brad Patterson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Greg Gipson, Aaron Simpson, Sr., Aaron Simpson, II, David Simpson, and Quinton Watson.
Mr. Patterson will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.
Mr. William Floyd “Billy” Noles, age 72, of Summerville, GA died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Noles was born October 25, 1939 in Gaylesville, AL, the son of the late Archie Lee Noles and Mary Love Noles. He was retired from the City of Summerville and he attended Four Mile Baptist Church. He participated in and coached youth sports activities. He was also an umpire for many years, and he played in the Men’s Softball League. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Other than his parents, Mr. Noles was preceded in death by a brother, Dean Noles.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Smith Noles; sons and daughter-in-law, Gene and Shelia Noles, Andy Noles, Mike Noles; daughters and sons-in-law, Beth Noles Peace and Bruce Peace, Tammy Noles Wallin and Casey Wallin; step-mother, Jeanette Noles; step-children, Lance Corporal Ethan Saylors and Ashley Wilson; brothers, Bud Love, Lloyd Noles, Archie Noles, Bobby Arp, and Larry Arp; sisters, Belle Bailey, Mary Faye Denney, and Cathy Gorham; 10 Grandchildren; 6 Great Grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Friday, July 27, 2012 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Joel Smith and Rev. Jerry Rutledge officiating. Burial will follow in Mill Creek Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Gene Noles, Tony Noles, Shane Noles, Chris Noles, Heath Noles, and Ethan Saylors. Honorary pallbearers will be Sewell Cash, Fred Lawson, City of Summerville Employees, and all Personal Friends.
Mr. Noles will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Thursday.
Mrs. Emmadeane Brison Garner, age 82, of Morrow, GA (formerly of Summerville, GA) died Saturday, July 21, 2012.
Mrs. Garner was born September 30, 1929 in Holland, GA, the daughter of the late Rufus Paul Brison and Julia Paralie High Brison. She attended West Georgia College and the University of Georgia, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She began her teaching career at Sand Hill Elementary in Carrollton, GA. In 1956 she transferred to Fulton County, GA, teaching at Parklane Elementary School, The Meadows Elementary School, Bethune Elementary School and McNair Middle School Until she retired in 1991, after spending 40 plus years in education. Mrs. Garner was a member of the Morrow First United Methodist Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Bishop Garner, Jr.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Julia Charlene Bruce, Stockbridge, GA, and Angela and Curtis Seelhammer, McDonough, GA; Grandchildren, Anna and Noah Seelhammer.
Graveside and interment services will be held at 4:00 p. m. Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at New Hope South Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Bill Jackson officiating. Active pallbearers will be Alex Brison, Paul Brison, Bo Brison, Roger Brison, Ethan Brison, and Phil Clack.
Mrs. Garner will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p. m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to New Hope South Baptist Church or the United Methodist Children’s Home.
Mr. W. A. Winters, age 63, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Friday, July 20, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Winters was born in Summerville, Georgia on November 2, 1948, son of the late E. E. Winters and Jessie Mae Fincher Winters. He was employed in the Maintenance Department at Mohawk Industries and was a building contractor. He was preceded in death by a sister, Evie Lee Holt.
Mr. Winters is survived by a son, William Jason Winters; daughters and sons-in-law, Faith and Steve Guello and Hope and John Sells; brothers, Grady Winters, Charles Winters and Raymond Winters; sisters, Sarah Duckett, Hattie Dentmon, Mary Studdard, Mamie Carroll and Marie Broyles; five grandchildren, Dameon Winters, Brock Guello, Cash Guello, Dylan Sells and Payton Sells; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Winters will be held Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Odom officiating.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Edmondson, Wesley Duckett, Willie Holt, Gary Broyles, Ronnie Winters, and DeWayne Yarbrough. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Maintenance Department of Lyerly Mohawk.
Mr. Winters will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.
Mrs. Henrietta Elizabeth Murphy McCary, age 90, of Summerville, passed away Monday, July 16, 2012 at the Shepherd Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in LaFayette.
Mrs. McCary was born Chattooga County, Georgia on July 22, 1921, daughter of the late Roe Murphy and Angelo Kellett Murphy. She was a retired home care provider and was of the Baptist Faith. Mrs. McCary was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph McCary; daughter, Linda Thayer; sister, Betty Jo Reynolds and a granddaughter, Kimberly Ann Demaline.
Mrs. McCary is survived by a son, Daniel “Danny” McCary; daughters, Nancy Edgeworth and Diane Rosson McCary; brother, Kellett Murphy; 7 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. at the residence, 2323 Hair Lake Road, Summerville. A private graveside will be held later in the week at Garrett Cemetery.
