Mr. Kenneth Lebron Bowman, age 75, Trion, GA, passed away June 29, 2012, at his home following a lengthy battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He was born September 27, 1936, in Trion, GA, son of the late Fred B. Bowman and Emma Lee Grogan Bowman. He was a graduate of the 1955 Trion High School and attended the University of Georgia. He served 2 years in the US Army in the continental United States and Soul, Korea. He graduated with a Business Accounting degree from Greenleaf Business College in 1961 in Atlanta, GA. He worked in the garment business for 22 years in management, setting up and running distribution centers, returning to Trion in 1993, working in sales of furniture and mobile homes until retirement age. He was an active member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Trion Highway, Lafayette, GA. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane Crow Lancaster, a brother, Joe (Betty) Bowman of Fort Payne, AL, step-son, Chris (Amy) Lancaster, McGregor, Texas and three step-granddaughters, Kaila, Klemson, and Haley, all of Texas, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday July 2, 2012, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tracy Bass and Rev. Jennifer Bates officiating. Interment in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Lafayette, GA. Active pallbearers, Frank Bomar, Frank Buchanan, Roy Huston, Troy Keith, Greg Harris, Sean Osowski. Mrs. Margie Dyer, age 69, of Trion, GA, passed away Friday June 29, 2012 in Sheperd Hill Nursing and Rehab. Mrs. Dyer was born Feb. 11, 1943, in Trion, GA, the daughter of the late Charlie and Viola Smith. She was retired from Mt Vernon Mills having worked for over 30 years in the weave department. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Louise Stephens and Betty Butler, 6 brothers, James, Frank, Ray, Bill, Gene, and Wayne Smith.
Survivors include her sister, Joyce Ashworth, Calhoun, GA, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday July 2, 2012 from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mrs. Nellie Mae Lawson, age 88, of Summerville, GA, formerly of Atlanta, GA, passed away Friday June 29, 2012, in Floyd Medical Center. Mrs. Lawson was born March 15, 1924, in Atlanta, GA, the daughter of the late Charles and Nannie Leathers Young. She was a home maker and preceded in death by her husband, William Lawson. Survivors include her grandchildren, Monique Bush, Cindy Wilson, Corinne DeVita, Special care giver her nephew and his wife, Bobby and Ann Ergle, sister, Margie Ergle, Summerville, GA, brother, Jewell Young, Atlanta, GA, and several other nieces and nephews also survive Mrs. Nellie Mae Lawson. Graveside and interment service will be held Monday July 2, 2012, 12:00 noon from the Hillcrest Cemetery in East Point, GA, with Rev. Greg King officiating. Mrs. Sarah Ann Greene, age 71, Woodstock, GA (formerly of Summerville, GA) died Monday, June 25, 2012 at Well Star Kennestone in Marietta, GA.
Mrs. Greene was born, December 31, 1940 in Trion, GA, the daughter of Bertha Mae Wilson Jackson and the late Paul Edward Jackson. She was a member of the South Summerville Baptist Church. Other than her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Quinton Jackson.
Survivors include her husband, Fred Greene; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Andrew West and Angela and Todd Hughes; mother, Bertha Jackson; grandsons, Joshua Shadrick, and wife, Michele Shadrick, Justin Hughes, and Jonathon West; granddaughters, Whitney Hughes and Andrea West; great-granddaughter, Sydney Shadrick; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Robert Greene; sister-in-law, Molly Greene; brother-in-law and wife, Dan & Melissa Greene; and several Nieces and Nephews.

Mrs. Nellie Louise McWhorter, age 90 of McWhorter Drive, Trion, GA passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at her residence. Mrs. McWhorter was born November 24, 1921 in Whitfield County, GA. She was retired from Mount Vernon Mills and was a member of the Berryton Church of God.
Mrs. McWhorter was preceded in death by her father and mother, Jackson C. and Mary Browder Stinnett; brothers, Elmer Stinnett, James Stinnett, Eugene Stinnett, Buster (Buck) Stinnett, Leon Stinnett, and Harold Stinnett; sisters, Mary Sue Cook, Margie B. Knowles, and Christine Sneed.
Mrs. McWhorter is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Paul Michael and Kathy McWhorter of Trion, GA; daughters and son-in-law, Sara Joe Eller and Paula and Houston Marks of Summerville, GA; sisters, Clara Mae Smith of Cave Spring, GA and Beatrice R. Ward of Summerville, GA; grandchildren, Terry, Kimberley, and Brittney McWhorter, Michael Stallings, Mike Stallings, April McWhorter Thomas, and Tesa Campbell; great-grandchildren, Jordan Stallings, Shyanne Sky LaRose McWhorter, Jay Stallings, Hunter Goss Stallings, Shawna Sword, Hope Nettles, Dezja Cronier, and Destiney and Brooke Lowe.

MISS MARGARET FRANCES OWENS, 92, of Allen Street-Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday in a Rome nursing home. A native Chattooga Countian, She was born on February 25, 1920 to the late Parks and Elsie Ward Owens. Miss Owens was a member of Summerville First Baptist Church and was retired knitting mill hand and school lunchroom service. She was preceded in death by sisters-Agnes Rosser and Myrtle Presley, niece-Virginia Johnston, nephews-Lamar Rosser & Vernon Rosser, and great nephew-Geoff Rosser.
Surviving are niece -Brenda (Windle) Bishop of Kingston; nephew-Winston (Sharon) Pressley of Albany; great niece-Jan (Mark) Sams of Lindale, Lauren Denning of Roswell, Patricia Pressley of Albany; great nephew-Alan (Candie) Rosser of Heflin, AL, Walter Pressley of Birmingham, AL; 1 great great niece; 3 great great nephews; 1 great great great niece; 3 great great great nephews.

MRS. DOROTHY ANN “DOT” JOHNSON, age 73, of Dickeyville Road-Trion, Georgia passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012, morning in a Rome hospital. She was born in Trion, Georgia on August 28, 1938, a daughter of the late John Wesley Kitchens and Gladys Sitton Kitchens Martin. Mrs. Johnson was a member of North Summerville Baptist Church, a long established hair dresser, and had served on the Chattooga County School Board of Eduaction for 20 plus years. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Tom Johnson and brother, the late Bill Kitchens. Surviving are daughters and spouse-Pamela Guthrie of Sarasota, FL. and Amy & Jonathan Parker of Calhoun; son and spouse-Jimmy & Jill Nicholson of Summerville; step children-Kati Peck of Knoxville, TN., Sandra Bockley and Randy Johnson of Atlanta; grandchildren-Sarah Nicholson, Michael Nicholson, Brandon Garner, Ashley Garner, Alechia Garner, Madison Bockley, Molly Bockley, Alex Johnson, Nicole’ Johnson, and Anna Caroline Parker; great granddaughter-Molly Nicholson; several Nieces and Nephews. Mr. Gerald Davis Dempsey, age 73, of Summerville, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Dempsey was born in Trion, Georgia on December 18, 1938, son of the late G.D. “Datch” Dempsey and Annie Ruth Lawson Dempsey. He was a member of the Oakhill United Methodist Church in Lyerly, Georgia and prior to retirement, worked at Bigelow-Sanford Rug Mill, as a Deputy with the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, a truck driver, and heavy equipment contractor.
Mr. Dempsey is survived by his wife, JoAnn Parker Dempsey; daughter and son-in-law, Arlene and Gary Hardeman; sisters and brothers-in-law, Maxine and Lee Majors and O’Bera and Melvin Keen; grandchildren, Brooke and Chris Jarrett, Marc Hardeman; great grandson, Reed Jarrett; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Dempsey will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Gillespie, Rev. Doyle Waters, Dr. Kenneth Summey and Rev. Bill Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Hill Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Doug Moseley, Ronnie Winters, Winston Chadwick, Gary McConnell, Jon Payne, Jack Ledford, Jason Winters, Johnny Bass and Joe Reed. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jackson Powell, the Congregation of Oak Hill United Methodist Church, and all personal friends.
