Mr. Hubert “Sam” Pruitt Obit (M)

Mr. Hubert Almon “Sam” Pruitt, age 83, of Mentone, AL passed away Sunday, May 27, 2012 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Pruitt was born in Jamestown, AL on September 4, 1928, son of the late General Filmore Pruitt and Gladys Cavin Pruitt. He was a member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and prior to retirement, was employed with Riegel Textile Mill and was a farmer. Mr. Pruitt was preceded in death by a daughter, Ellen Pruitt; a brother, Leon Pruitt and a sister, Eloise Magnusson.

Mr. Pruitt is survived by his wife; Louise Pruitt; son and daughter-in-law, Hershel and Sandra Pruitt; daughters and son-in-law, Kathy Kerce and Vickie and Gary Carlisle; sister and brother-in-law, Ludain and Mack Gilreath; grandchildren, Heather Pruitt, Renee Pruitt, Katie Kerce, Christopher Kerce, Sarah Kerce, Katie Smith, Allen Gray, Kelsey Carlisle, Garrett Carlisle, Gary Carlisle, Jr., and Kim Bishop; great grandchildren, Joseph Ellis, Macey Gray, Isaac Gray, Ellie Bishop, and Wyatt Bishop.

Funeral Services for Mr. Pruitt will be held Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Green officiating. Interment will follow in the Little River Church Cemetery.

Mr. Pruitt will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 P.M.

Mrs. Johnnie Lynne Hillman Obit (M)

Mrs. Johnnie Lynne Hillman, age 54, of Rock Run, Alabama died Saturday,
May 26, 2012, at Redmond Regional Medical Center.
 
Mrs. Hillman was born March 16, 1958 in Trion, GA, the daughter of the
late John H. Thomas and Kay Hale Thomas.  Mrs. Hillman was a senior
and an honor student at Jacksonville State University.   She was a graduate
of Trion High School in 1976 and a graduate of Walker Tech.  Mrs. Hillman
was former owner of Tiers of Joy.  Other than her parents, she was preceded
in death by her daughter, Katie Lynne Bradley; and a mother-in-law;
Connie Bowen Hillman.
 
Survivors include her husband, Steven Mark Hillman; father-in-law,
Joseph Hillman; step-daughter and husband, Jennifer and Robert Whatley; step-grandchildren, Caleb Whatley, Zoe Whatley, and Eden Whatley; brother, John Henry Thomas, Jr; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Gwyn & Alfred Crabtree, and Robin and  David Burkhalter; nieces, Christy Windle, Melinda Wallin, Ginger Wofford, Lauren Burkhalter, Ramsie Keen, Rese Wofford, and Lillie Beth Witt; nephews, Roy Witt, Dale Witt, Asa Windle, Chandler Keen, Dexter Witt, Will Witt, Bradden Madux, and Kellen Anderson.
 
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon (EST) on Wednesday, May 30,
2012 at Union Grove Methodist Church in Rock Run, Alabama, and at
2:30 p. m. (EST) at Mason Funeral Home in Summerville, GA.
Pastor Angela Teel will officiate with 2:30 chapel service at Mason Funeral
Home with Roy and Toni Clark giving eulogy.  Burial in West Hill Cemetery
with Rev. Tommy Pledger.  Active pallbearers will be Robert Jackson, Roy Witt,
Dale Witt, Asa Windle , Robert Whatley, Graham Grimes, Casey Murray,
and Chandler Keen.  Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Spring
Garden Fire Dept.

Mr. Thomas Fredrick (Tommy) Beech, age 59, of Summerville, GA, passed away Saturday May 26, 2012 at his residence.

Mr. Beech was born Nov. 25, 1952, in Athens, TN, the son of the late Valmond and Lucille Collins Beech. He was formerly employed with Mt. Vernon Mills, a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, and preceded in death by twin daughters, Donna & Dianna Beech, sister, JoAnn Dentmond, brother, Larry Beech.

Survivors include his wife, Cathy Walker Beech, sons, Matt Beech, and Mark Beech, step-daughters, and step-son-in-law Felicia Walker, Heather and Brian Collette, brothers, Robert (Bob) Beech, Valmond Beech, JR, sister, Gail Beech, grandchildren, Lorianna Beech, Kenzlee Collette, Jacob Whitaker, Angel Walker, Joey Walker, Tyler Owens.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday May 31, 2012 from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Bryant officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. Thursday until the service hour at Mason Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Billy Joe Croy, Sr. Obit (ER)

MR. BILLY JOE CROY, SR., age 74, of Espy Street-Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, May 26, 2012, afternoon following an extended illness. A native of Trion, Georgia, He was born to the late Allen Lester and Mary Frances Bailey Croy on June 12, 1937. Mr. Croy was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church , a Veteran of the U. S. Army serving in Korean Conflict, and was a retired truck driver. He was preceded in death by a son the late Billy Joe Croy, Jr.

Surviving are His wife, Betty Jo Croy; sons & daughters-in-law, Randy & Wanda Croy of Trion and James & Lucy Croy of Calhoun; sister-Maggie Fox of Trion; brother-Earl Croy of Summerville; grandchildren-Joseph Croy, Kevin Croy, and Amanda & Justin Brown; great granddaughter-Ella Brown.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 29th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Sumner and Rev. Jessie Bankson officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Karey “Kay” Reynolds Tallent Obit (M)

Mrs. Karen “Kay” Reynolds Tallent, age 48, of Summerville, passed away Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Kindred Hospital in Rome, Georgia following an extended illness.

Mrs. Tallent was born in Rome, Georgia on September 17, 1963, daughter of Cecil Reynolds and June White Reynolds. She was a member of the Four Mile Baptist Church, and was a homemaker. Mrs. Tallent was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Lon and Alice Reynolds and her maternal grandparents, Rev. A.N. and Linda White, and a nephew, Daniel Tyler Reynolds.

Mrs. Tallent is survived by her husband, David Tallent; daughter, Courtney Tallent; son, Chris Tallent; parents, Cecil and June Reynolds; brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Zeta Reynolds; and a number of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, May 28, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Doyle Kelley, Rev. Joel A. Smith, and Mr. Jeff Greenway officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Bethel Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth “Beta” Greenwood, age 84, of Trion, GA died Sunday, May 20, 2012 at her home.

Mrs. Greenwood was born August 19, 1927 in Teloga, GA, the daughter of the late James Elbert Hayes and Lottie Christol Hayes. She was retired from the Trion School System. Mrs. Greenwood is a member of Trion First Baptist Church and the Trion High School Alumni Association.

Mrs. Greenwood is survived by her husband, J. W. Greenwood; son, Robin and wife, Donna Greenwood; daughter , Ginger and husband, Stephen Lanier; brother, Billy B. Hayes; grandchildren, Drew Lanier, Laci Lanier, and Grace Greenwood; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Mike Woods, Sis. Donna Shireman, and Dr. Floyd Roebuck officiating. Mrs. Sylvia Frances Bobbitt Byars, age 88 of Ramsey Road, Summerville, GA passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012 at her residence.  Mrs. Byars was born October 11, 1923.   Mrs. Byars was a homemaker and a member of the New Antioch Baptist Church.

   Mrs. Byars was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Byars, Sr.; son, Robert Lee Byars, Jr.; brothers, Ray Bobbitt and Junior Bobbitt

Mrs. Eula Louise Mitchell, age 85, of Summerville, GA died Monday, May 14, 2012 at her residence.

Mrs. Mitchell was born February 14, 1927 in Huntsville, AL, the daughter of the late John Bryant and Lillie Ivey. She was a homemaker and a member of Berryton Church of God. Other than her parents, Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyt Dewitt Mitchell.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Jane Brown; sons, John Hoyt Mitchell, Anthony Dewayne Mitchell, and Scott Mitchell; sisters, Rose King and Audrey Rial; brother, Johnny Ivey; 6 Grandchildren; and 8 Great Grandchildren.

Mrs. Ruby Doris Dyer, age 84 of Evans, GA formerly of Trion, GA passed away Monday, May 14, 2012 at Lake Crossings Health Center.  Mrs. Dyer was born  May 16, 1927 in Tallapoosa, GA.  She was an Administrative Assistant at WWG Industries and was a member of The Church of God Northside.  

   Mrs. Dyer was preceded in death by her father and mother, Elijah and Alice Smith Kilgore; sisters, Ida Bowling, Ola Bowling, Agnes Coley, Myra Dyer, and Etta Stiles; and brother, Isaac Kilgore.

   Mrs. Dyer is survived by husband, Paul Dyer of Evans, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Kathy Dyer of Grovetown, GA; granddaughters and husband, Amber and Justin Flynn of Grovetown, GA and Stephenie and Kevin Mixon of Milledgeville, GA; grandson and wife, Andrew and Leigh Dyer of Grovetown, GA; great-grandchildren, Katie, Caleb, and Brent; several nieces and nephews.
