Mr. Larry Ralph Bowman (EP)

Mr. Larry Ralph Bowman, age 65 of Union Street, Summerville, GA went to meet family members in Heaven on February 10, 2012.  He was born in Trion, GA on May 14, 1946. to the late Mearley and Joseph Bowman.
   

Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sadie Tucker, Ellar Smith, and  Billie Jean Ross; brother, James Bowman.
    

Mr. Bowman attended Sonrise Community Church. Mr. Bowman is survived by one son, Scott (Tammy) Bowman; and one sister, Hazel Tucker; grandchildren, Ciara Bowman, Anna Bowman, Olivia Bowman, Ashley Barnard, and Holly Barnard.

Visitation will be Monday, February 13, 2012  from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home. Graveside and Interment services will be at 2:30 p.m. from Needmore Cemetery, Blanche, AL with Rev. Chip Smith officiating.Pallbearers will be Larry Weesner, Eddie Wilborn, Mike "Pete" Thomas, and Ricky Wilborn.Honorary Pallbearers will be the Adult Sunday School Class of Sonrise Community Church.

Mr. Eugene Denny (ER)

MR. EUGENE DENNEY, age 74, of Orchard Hill Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, February 9, 2012, evening at his residence following an extended illness. A native of Huntsville, Alabama, He was born on July 26, 1937. Mr. Denney was a Veteran of Korea serving in the U.S. Navy and was retired from law enforcement and the security industry. Surviving are His wife-Mary Carol Knowles Denney; daughters & sons-in-law-Teresa & Jimmy Collette of Lyerly and Sandra & Sherman Rutledge of Summerville; granddaughter-Salley King; brother-Art Denney of Huntsville, Al. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 12th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Russell officiating, interment in Greenhills Memory Garden. Mrs. Charlotte Elsie Williams Obit EP

Mrs. Charlotte Elsie Williams, age 67 of McGinnis Circle, Summerville, GA passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at her residence.  Mrs. Williams was born August 31, 1944 in Summerville, GA.  She had been employed as an LPN at Northwest Regional Hospital.  Mrs. Williams was Baptist by faith.
   Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Ray Williams, Sr.; her father and mother, Charles Richard Echols, Jr. and Ella Francis Edwards Echols; and her brother, Howard Echols.
   Mrs. Williams is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy R. and Crystal Williams, Jr. of Pikeville, NC; daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Chris Blanks of Summerville, GA; brother, Charles Richard Echols, III of Summerville, GA; and grandchildren, Trevor Jamieson Williams, Jimmy Ray Williams, III, Tufton Blanks, and Shelby Williams.
   Memorial services will be conducted Thursday, February 9, 20122 at 7:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Johnson officiating. 
   Visitation will be Thursday, February 9, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home.

Mr. Donald Leon McNeese (M)

Donald Leon McNeese, age 63 of Lyerly, GA, passed away Sunday in Redmond Regional Medical Center. Mr. McNeese was born Nov. 19, 1948, in Trion, GA, the son of the late Walter Lee and Mary Grace McWhorter McNeese. He was retired from Mohawk, veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Vietnam, was a member of the New Faith Tabernacle, and preceded in death by a brother, Lamar NcNeese, and a grandson, Larry Dewayne Martin, Jr. Survivors include his wife, Betty McNeese, son & daughter-in-law, Nathaniel & Tammie McNeese, daughters & sons-in-law, Teresa & Terry Busbin, Cletta & Pete Farrow, Sherry & Jon Mitchell, Becky & Shawn Edwards, Catrina Salgado & Jose Castro, sisters, Ann Bullard, Nancy Harris, Faye Fhigpen, brothers, Jerry McNeese, Leroy McNeese, David McNeese, Lawayne McNeese, Greg McNeese, 16 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday Feburary 8, 2012, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Walter Morgan and Rev. Jerry Rutledge officiating with interment in the AMI Cemetery, with military rite conducted by the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard. Mr. Hillard Leo Tillman (M)

Mr. Hillard Leo Tillman, SR, age 79, of Cedar Bluff, AL, passed away Saturday February 4, 2012, in Gadsden Regional Medical Center. Mr. Tillman was born January 13, 1932, in Madison, TN, the son of the late Leon and Loevisa Allen Tillman. He was formerly employed with Mohawk Carpet and served in the U.S. Army, and was preceded in death by a daughter Mitzi Moore. Survivors include his children, Hillard Leo Tillman, Jr, Willard Thomas Tillman, Charles Michael Tillman, Kathy Lynn Holloway, step-children, Marty Rogers, and Patrica Adams, 16 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren. Graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday February 7, 2012, at the Summerville Cemetery with Rev. Sanford Deberry officiating with interment in the Summerville Cemetery with military rites. Active pallbearers, Donald Filinuk, Donald Crane, Charles Latty, Jimmy Hitchcock, Dean Bailey, Brian Bagley. Mr. Tillman will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:00 noon until the service hour.

 

Mrs. Betty Jean Powell (ER)

MRS. BETTY JEAN POWELL, age 78, of Mentone, Alabama passed away Saturday, February 4, 2012, in the local nursing home. A native Chattooga Countian, She was born to the later Dewey Karl and Susie Ann Rodgers Mitchell on October 8, 1933. Mrs. Powell was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, retired from the spinning department of Riegel Textile Corporation, and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by husband the late Lawrence W. Powell, Sr.

Surviving are daughter-Patsy McGarty of Rex, GA; sons-Sam White of Dallas, GA, Dennis White of Odgen, KA, LaVon White, Jr. of Memphis, TN, and Douglas Powell of Mentone; sisters-Orleane Miller of Flint, MI, Ann Brown of Trion; brothers-D.C. Mitchell, Jr. and Malcolm Mitchell both of Menlo, Glenn Mitchell of Trion, and Larry Mitchell of LaFayette; 15 Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 5th, at 4:00 P.M. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Shores and Greg Ledford officiating, interment in Ami Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 P.M. until the service hour.

Mr. John Grady Rodgers Obit (R)

MR. JOHN GRADY RODGERS, age 85, of Trion, Ga. Passed away Friday afternoon in the local Nursing Home. Mr. Rodgers was born in Broometown, Alabama March 17, 1926, a son of the late John Newton and Verdie Beatrice Gardner Rodgers. Mr. Rodgers was a Deacon and member of Central Avenue Baptist Church, a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Navy, and a retired self-employed Carpenter. He was preceded in death by siblings: Jessie Rodgers, Don Rodgers, Wayne Rodgers, Bill Rodgers, Evelyn White, Winnie Robinson and Susie Mitchell.

Survivors include his wife Willie Bell Rodgers; A sister Luckie Bynum of Chattanooga, TN; A brother J. E. Rodgers of Colonial Heights, VA.

Funeral services will be held Sunday (February 5, 2012) at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. John Leatherhead officiating, interment in Howell Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be deacons of Central Avenue Baptist Church. Visitation will be Saturday from 4 – 6 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

Mrs. Stella Mae Thomas obit (R)

MRS. STELLA MAE THOMAS, age 88, of Rome, Georgia, formerly of Summerville, passed away Wednesday evening in a Rome hospital. A native of Walker County, Georgia, She was born to the late William P. and Zora Mae King Oliver on September 5, 1923. Mrs. Thomas was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and was retired from sewing department of Best Mfg., and was preceded in death by her husband the late Rev. Hugh C. Thomas, a daughter the late Sandra Annette Thomas, and a number of Siblings.

Surviving are daughters-Carol Magnusson of Rome and Faye Elrod of Gaylesville, AL.; son-Roger Thomas of Summerville; seven Grandchildren; ten Great Grandchildren; two Great Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 4th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Odom officiating, interment in Trinity Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Grandsons. Visitation will be Saturday at the Funeral Home from 12 noon until the service hour.

Mrs. Melba Butler Tinney Obit M

Mrs. Melba Butler Tinney, 89, of Rome, passed away on January 31, 2012 at her residence
with her children by her side. Mrs. Tinney was born on July 22, 1922 at Round Mtn., AL,
to Robert and Mae Arthur Butler. She spent the early years of her life in Alabama and
Trion. She met her husband, Raymond Hoyt Tinney in Trion who preceded her in
death in 2005. Mr. Tinney was a WWII veteran, having served aboard the USS Mervine.
Mrs. Tinney was a member of the Rome Church of Christ.
Beside her husband, she was preceded in death by a great grandson, Landon Drew
Dasher; a brother, “Sonnie” Butler; and two sisters, Syble Purcell and Mildred Brewster.
She is survived by two children, daughter, Phyllis (Ron) Dasher, Rome, and a son, Victor
Tinney, Rome; four grandsons, Drew ( Jessica) Dasher, Lincoln, NE, Mark ( Chandise) Dasher,
Charleston, SC, Neil (Linda) Tinney, Huntsville, AL, and Ben Tinney, Rome, GA; three
great grandsons, Logan Dasher, Liam Dasher, and Chason Tinney. Also many nieces and
nephews survive. Her immediate family would like to include with them, Frankie and
ImogeneVaughn, and Wayne and Leola Winslett who helped her in so many ways
during the last years of her life. Mr. And Mrs. Vaughn not only were available at all hours,
but provided nutritious meals every day. Mr. And Mrs. Winslett brought fresh vegetables
all summer. We could not have left our mother in her home if it had not been for these
special neighbors who we will always consider as part of our family. Christian attributes
abound in them.
Mrs. Tinney was a kind, gentle, and caring person who always put herself last. She
never lost her temper, but sought peaceful solutions to all problems. She spent the
greater part of her life taking care of her family by canning and freezing food from
her garden. She enjoyed quilting and needle work as well as growing flowers in her yard.
She was the woman God described in the Bible and a Christian example to all who
knew her.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 3, 2012 from 1:00 until 3:00 p. m.
at Mason Funeral Home in Summerville, GA. The funeral will follow at the funeral
home with Ministers David O’Connell, Steve Rogers, and Robby Eversole officiating.
Interment will follow at the family plot at Howell Cemetery in Summerville.
Pallbearers include Danny, Daryl, & Dennis Murdock, Ed, Mark, Tim, & Mike Tinney.

Mr. Robert C. Ellenburg, age 87, of Trion, GA died February 1, 2012 at Oakview
Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.  Mr. Ellenburg was born September 9, 1924 in Summerville, GA, the son of the late Lon and Emma Meeler Ellenburg. He was a self-employed automobile mechanic and a veteran of the United States Army, having served during WWII.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Verdie Forrest Ellenburg.
Mr. Ellenburg is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Eugene and Peggy
Ellenburg; grandsons, Robert Eugene Ellenburg and Jeffrey Allen Ellenburg;
and 5 Great Grandchildren; 3 Great Great Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, February 5, 2012 at Mason
Funeral Home with Rev. David Pettyjohn officiating. Burial will follow in
West Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Ellenburg, Jeffrey Ellenburg, Nicolas Ellenburg, Allen Ellenburg, Jerry Forrest, Randy Pirkle and Lee Narramore.
