Dort Brown, age 89, of Summerville, GA died Wednesday, December 28, 2011
at Redmond Regional Medical Center.
Dort was born July 16, 1922 in Subligna, GA, the son of the late Henry
Clinton and Bonnie Lynn Hamilton Brown. He was retired from Sears and
Haney Supply Company. Dort was a veteran of the United States Army,
having served in WWII in the European Theatre.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Syble Scoggins Brown; sons and daughters-
in-law, Jerry and Gail Brown, Piedmont, SC, Ronnie and Pat Brown, Ricky and
Cheryl Brown, all of Subligna, GA; grandchildren, Kevin Brown, Scott Brown,
Autumn McDonald, Angie Law, and Rance Brown; great grandchildren, Jake
Nelson, Cameron Brown, Amanda Brown, Jordan DeJesus, Nikki Brown,
Carson McDonald, and Lucas McDonald.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, December 31, 2011 at
Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Scoggins and Rev. Mark Smith officiating.
Burial will follow in Subligna Methodist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers
will be Scott Brown, Rance Brown, Cameron Brown, Jake Nelson, Jordan
DeJesus, and Eddie Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Scoggins, Jimmy
Stewart, Frank Ward, Melvin Plunkett, Ray Sutton, Mike Sutton, Roy Joe Thomas,
Jimmy Walker, and Kevin Brown.
Dort will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive

Kenneth Paul Estus died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011. He was 71.

He was a member of Bethel Memorial Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Marie Young Estus; sister, Doris Blevins; and brother, Ronald Estus.

Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Tressie Williams Estus; father, Paul Jefferson Estus; daughters, Theresa (Greg) Latta, Debra (Michael) Taylor, all of Trion, and Marcella (Jose) Cabrera of Trion; sisters, Charlotte Collis, Kathy Jones, Paula Worley, all of LaFayette; brothers, Donnie Estus of LaFayette and Leonard Estus of Texas; grandchildren, Andy Latta, Ben Latta, Philip Cabrera, Nina Cabrera, Faith Cabrera; great-grandson, Knox Latta; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service: Friday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m. at the Bethel Memorial Baptist Church conducted by Revs. Bud Martenn and Tim Jones. Burial: West Hill Cemetery. Visitation: Thursday, Dec. 29, from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements: Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home, LaFayette.

Mrs. Erveen Searels Obit EP

Mrs. Erveen Lee Searels, age 95 of Bandy Dairy Road, Trion, GA passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2011 in Memorial Health Care System.  Mrs. Searels was born in Subligna, GA on  August 16, 1916.  Mrs. Searels was a member of the Pennville Church of Christ.  She was retired from Riegel Textile Corporation and a member of the Quarter Century Club.

Mrs. Searels was preceded in death by her husband, Horace J. Searels; her father and mother, Homer H. and Jessie Beatrice Pruitt Broome; her son, Harold Wayne Searels; her son-in-law, Frank Bandy; her sisters, Catherine Landers and Hazel Williams; her brothers, Harold Broome and J. L. Broome.

Mrs. Searels is survived by her daughter, Faye Nell Bandy of Trion, GA; and her daughter-in-law, Maxine Searels of Trion, GA; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 30, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. from the Chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Minister Robbie Eversole and Minister Jim Lewis officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be Friday, December 30, 2011 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

MR. TOMMY MORRISON, age 68, of Lyerly, Georgia passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at his residence following an extended illness. Born in Chattooga County, Georgia on September 15, 1943 to the late Paul and Jewell McCollum Morrison. Mr. Morrison was retired from heat and air conditioning and a Veteran of Viet Nam serving in the U. S. Army. He was preceded in death by a brother the late Mike Morrison. Surviving are His wife-Jody Morrison; daughter-Robin Brown; son-Toby Morrison; granddaughter-Brecklyn Brown all of Lyerly; sister-Paula Cleveland and Carrie Morrison both of Lyerly, and Donna Ponder of Orange Grove, FL.; brothers-Ed Morrison and David Morrison both of Louisiana; several Nieces and Nephews. Mr. Daniel Lee Hayes, age 76, of Knoxville, TN died Saturday, December 24, 2011 at Ft. Sanders Hospital, Knoxville, TN.

Mr. Hayes was born June 27, 1935 in Trion, GA, the son of the late James Elbert and Lottie Christol Hayes. He was a graduate of Trion High School, having played football, baseball, and basketball. Mr. Hayes was a member of Trinity Chapel Church. He was a graduate of Tennessee Technical College. He had worked at Genesco Shoe Company, U. S. Census Bureau, and Levi Straus. He was a retired electrical engineer. Mr. Hayes was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean War.

Survivors include his children, Timothy Hayes, Theresa Verge, and Renee Brown; sisters and brothers-in-law, Beta and J. W. Greenwood; brother and sisters-in-law, Gerald and Loretta Hayes, Billy and Joyce Hayes; and several Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Neil Silverberg and Curtis Phillips officiating. Mrs. Lola Mae Mathis, age 88, of Little Sand Mtn. Community, Armuchee, GA died Sunday, December 25, 2011 at Floyd Medical Center.

Mrs. Mathis was born October 17, 1923 in Little Sand Mtn., GA, the daughter of the late Huston and Mamie Ward Cargle. She was a homemaker and former employee of the Glove Mill at Trion. Mrs. Mathis was a member of Little Sand Mt. Baptist Church, the Homemaker’s Club, and the Knitting Club. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel D. Mathis; sister, Dorothy Cargle Milam; brothers, Huston Cargle, JR, and Billy Cargle.

Survivors include sisters Thelma Ruth Rench and Carolyn Geneva Gentry,and her husband, James Gentry; brothers, James Oliver “Shorty” Cargle, Hugh Carlton Cargle, and his wife, Gumelda Cargle; Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces, and Great Nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Little Sand Mt. Baptist Church with Rev. Max Carver, Rev. Larry McCoy, and Rev. Larry Scoggins officiating. Burial will follow in Little Sand Mt. Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tim Mathis, Roger Mathis, Allen Ridge, Terry Cargle, Eddie Gentry, Tony Rench, Tommy Cargle, and Jeff Cargle.

MRS. ILEEN BOWLING, age 92, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, December 24, 2011, morning in a Rome hospital. A native of Randolph County, AL, She was born to the late Milford Green and Viola Henderson Overton on March 10, 1919. Mrs. Bowling was a Charter member of Pentecostal Worship Center and was preceded in death by her husband the late Joseph Lemuel Bowling on September 26, 1996 and a grandson the late Luke Grogan. Surviving are daughters-Shirley Grogan, Brenda Martineau, and Dorothy Hutchins, Rebecca Dyer, and Marlene Watwood all of Summerville; son Dwight Bowling of Lyerly; Ten Grandchildren, Twelve Great Grandchildren;; sister & brother-in-law, Mary & Randall Slater of Rising Fawn, GA.; sisters-in-law, Lillian and Louise Overton; special cousin, Ola Bowling; several Nieces and Nephew also survive. Mr. W.A. Latta Obit (M)

Mr. Latta was born December 22, 1935 in Centre, AL, son of the late Edd C. and Cynthia Ida Godfrey Latta. He was a member of the Central Avenue Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. Latta was a veteran of the United States Air Force and prior to his retirement, was employed with Mt. Vernon Mills.

Mr. Latta is survived by his wife, Martha Anderson Latta; sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Theresa Latta, Gary and Melinda Latta and Grant and Kendra Latta; brother, Otis Latta; sister, Ellen Garmon; grandchildren, Andy Latta and Ben Latta; one great grandchild, Knox Latta.

Funeral Services for Mr. Latta will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. in the Central Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor John Leatherwood, Rev. Scott Quinn and Rev. Owen “Bud” Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.
