Mr. Guy Harold Toles Jr. Obit M

Mr. Guy Harold Toles, JR, age 90, of Menlo, GA, passed away Tuesday December 6, 2011, in Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Toles was born November 29, 1921, the son of Guy Harold Toles, SR and Eunice Cavin Toles. He was retired Post Master after 30 years service with the Menlo Post Office, a World War II veteran having served with the First Marine Division in the South Pacific, being awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during the Battle of Guadalcanal. He was the first from Chattooga County to be wounded during WWII. Mr. Toles was a member of the Alpine Masonic Lodge #211 in Menlo for more than 60 years, having served as Worshipful Master.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Evelyn
Greenwood Toles; a daughter, Sarah Beth Toles; a brother, Charles Fletcher
Toles, SR; and a sister, Daphne Joan Toles.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Smith Toles, step-son, Bruce Daniel, step-daughters, Barbara Daniel, Linda Guthrie and Debbie Rich, brother, Lee L. Toles, sister Iris J. Toles, 3 nephews, 3 great nephews, 4 great nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Thursday, December 8, 2011 at
Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Elliott and Rev. Billy Dempsey
officiating. Interment will follow in Alpine Cemetery with Masonic Rites.
Active pallbearers will be Charles Toles, Guy Toles, Conrad Toles, Perry Vaughn, John Toles, Jimmy Evans, and Ricky Stoner. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Crowe, Faye Maxey, C Hall Nurses at Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center,

Mrs. Lillian Mae Blackmon, age 93, of Trion, GA, passed away Tuesday December 6, 2011 in Henry Medical Center.
Mrs. Blackmon was born September 12, 1918, in Buchanan, GA, the daughter of the late Gus and Etter Morris Evans. She was a member of the Ridgedale Unity Church of God. She was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Harrison Rufus Blackmon, 2nd husband, James Harper Blackmon, children, Alma Burrels, Jerry Blackmon, Gary Blackmon, Wayne Blackmon, Chester Blackmon, sister, Sarah Grant, brothers, Dee Evans, and James W. Evans.

Mr. Harold Eugene Taylor, age 59, of Trion, GA died Sunday, December 4, 2011
at Redmond Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Taylor was born January 5, 1952 in Atlanta, GA, the son of Mada Stiles
Taylor and the late Drew Taylor. He was self-employed in dry wall construction.
Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife, Shelia Taylor; mother, Mada Stiles Taylor;
children, Harold Eugene Taylor II, Deana Taylor, and Tanya Criswell;
brother, Jim Taylor; sisters, Debbie, Rhonda, and Carol.
Graveside and interment services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, December
8, 2011 at Criswell-Taylor Cemetery with Bro. Tony Crow officiating. Pallbearers
will be David Criswell, Harold Taylor II, and Tanya Criswell.

Mr. Billy Johnson Obit (M)

Mr. Billy Joe “Lige” Johnson, age 65, of Summerville, GA departed this life
Friday morning, December 2, 2011.
Joe was famous for his big smile, unique laugh, comedic sense of humor,
and his sharp-as-a-tack fashion sense. Joe was born on February 12, 1946 in
Chattooga County, GA. He was the youngest son to the late Elijah and Annie
Laura Robinson Johnson.
Joe was a student of the A. C. Carter Consolidated School. He was employed at
several local businesses such as Image Carpet, Best Manufacturing, and Mt.
Vernon Mills, where he later retired. Although Joe was employed at various
places, he was a true entrepreneur at heart.
Joe was preceded in death by a companion, Dorothy Ann Stewart. They shared
three children, Laura Johnson, Duncan Eric Johnson, and the late baby, Melissa.
Joe later married Barbara Harris and they shared one son, Dennis Johnson.
Joe left behind several family members to share his precious memories, one
daughter, Laura Johnson (Thomas Mostiller) of Rome, GA, two sons, Duncan
Johnson, Rome, GA. Dennis (Raquel) Johnson, Bremen, GA; brother, Herbert
(Jeneal) Johnson, Rossville, GA; sisters, Dessa Richardson, Rossville, GA, Opal
Moore, Summerville, GA, and Vanessa Fain, Suwanee, GA; 11 Grandchildren;
7 Great-grandchildren; aunt, Sally Morton, Rossville, GA, a dear friend, Lardine
Knowles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Joe will be missed by everyone that knew him. He always had a joke for every
occasion. Joe loved God, people, his family, golf, fishing, and his Church of
Christ Family. He often participated in leading songs, prayer, and the reading
of the Scriptures during services. Joe truly left his mark in the Earth.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at
the West Fifth Street Church of Christ with Bro. John Lewis officiating. Joe will
be in state at West Fifth Street Church of Christ and the family will receive

Mr. Taylor Leonard Ash JR M

Mr. Taylor Leonard Ash, JR, age 61, of Summerville, GA died Saturday, December 3, 2011 from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Mr. Ash was born January 5, 1950 in Whitwell, TN, the son of the late Taylor Leonard Ash, SR and Willie Wofford Ash. He was a self-employed used car dealer. Mr. Ash was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Vietnam. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jeanette Thompson and Helen Baggett; and a brother, Horace Edward Ash.

Survivors include his wife, Myra Ash; children, Jeremy Taylor Ash and Julie Elizabeth Ash; sisters, Bobbie Henry, Jo Ann Crizzort, and Rebecca Price; and brothers, Billy Wayne Ash and Deward “Bud” Ash.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, December 5, 2011 at Garrett Cemetery with Rev. Tommy Pledger officiating. Active pallbearers will be Bub Cooper, Terry Day, Larry Coley, Mike Barnes, Mark Ballard, Tim Hegwood, Earl Bramlett, and Gary Talley. Mrs. Merline H. Ballard obit (M)

Mrs. Merline H. Ballard, 69, of 8 Saddle Horne Dr, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2011 at her residence.

Mrs. Ballard was born on May 28, 1942, in Brunswick , GA, the daughter of the late Clyde and Alice Mae Johnson Hickox.

Mrs. Ballard formerly owner and operated Herbs for Health in Central Plaza, and was a member of the Second Avenue Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 48 yrs, Don Ballard; daughters, Donna Mincey and Debbie Ballard Moon; son, Bryan E. Ballard, all of Rome, GA. five grandchildren, Danielle Mincey, Jonathan Mincey, Kara Mincey, Bria Moon and Jackson Moon; one brother, David Hickox, and sister-in-law, Jeanette Hickox, Snellville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec 4, 2011 at 3 PM at the Second Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Monty Stallins officiating.  Interment will follow in the Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Therian Smith, Jim Pinson, Bob Bryant, Mike Bennett, Fred Moore and Terry Crider.

Ms. Wilma Dean Hudgins Patterson, age 79, of LaFayette, GA died Monday, November 28, 2011 at her home. Ms. Patterson was born April 6, 1932, the daughter of the late Major and Maude Rooks Hudgins. Ms. Patterson was a retired weaver at Mt. Vernon Mills. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Patterson. Ms. Patterson is survived by a daughter, Peggy Gaston; grandchildren, David Steven Henderson, Sherry Henderson Allen, John and Tina Blackwell; great grandchildren, David Steven Henderson II, William Tyler Suits, Jacob Ashmore Allen, Joshua Miles Allen, Jackson Curt Blackwell, John Rilley Blackwell, Thomas Ryan Blackwell; and a great great granddaughter, Ashlynn Lei Burkhalter. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2011 graveside at Summerville Cemetery with Rev. Rickey Studdard officiating. Interment will follow. Ms. Angela Lynn Green, age 43, of Lyerly, GA died Saturday,November 26, 2011 at Floyd Medical Center.

Ms. Green was born November 14, 1968, the daughter of the late Leon and Linda Whitten Anderson. Ms. Green was a homemaker and a member of the Trion First Baptist Church.

Ms. Green is survived by her fiancé Conley Martin; daughters, Hannah and Haley Elrod; and grandchildren Anslie Deberry, Jaxon Deberry and Jace Elrod.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p. m. Wednesday November 30, 2011 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Floyd Roebuck officiating. Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Mr. Fred Haskell Barbare, age 74, of LaFayette, GA died Monday, November 28,2011 at his residence.

Mr. Barbare was born April 19,1937 in Summerville, GA, the son of the late Cleveland and Lena Mann Barbare. He was a retired security gaurd at Bunge Oils. Mr. Barbare was preceded in death by a son, Fred “Kim” Haskell Barbare, sister, Joyce Ferguson and brother, Buck Barbare.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Ann Reynolds Barbare; son, Shane Barbare;daughter, Tricia “Jody” Gilreath; brothers, Harold Barbare, Vernon Barbare, Mike Barbare,Jeff Barbare; sisters, Bobbie Thompson, Sue Woodard; granddaughter, Breanna Gilreath; grandsons, C.J. Barbare, Stephen Barbare and Alex Barbare.

Mr. G. C. Pickle Obit (M)

Mr. G. C. Pickle, age 80, of Lyerly, GA passed away on Friday, November 25, 2011 at Roman Court, in Rome, GA.

Mr. Pickle was born January 18, 1931 in Cherokee County, AL, the son of the late Grover and Lilly Loveless Pickle. He was retired from GTE Telephone Company, was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, and attended Lyerly United Methodist Church. He was a third degree master mason with Lyerly Masonic Lodge # 338.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Cook Pickle; daughter and son-in-law,Debbie and Ronnie Floyd; grandchildren, Kelly & Michelle Floyd, Jonathan & Lee Floyd; and a great grandchild, Tyler Floyd.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, November 26, 2011 from the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. J. B. McNeil and Rev. Marshall Bryan officiating. Interment will be in Lyerly Cemetery with Masonic Lodge Rites. Active pallbearers will be members of Lyerly Masonic Lodge #338.
