Mr. Dewey Henry Hoskins obit (willis)

Mr. Dewey Henry Hoskins- age 82 of Summerville, GA passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at his residence.  He was a member and Deacon of New Bethel Baptist Church in Summerville, A US Army Veteran of Korean Conflict, A member of Masonic Lodge #47, a City Councilman, and formerly employed with Farmers and Merchant Bank, Modern Cleaners, and General Electric Plant.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Dock  and Alice Hoskins, brother, Charles Hoskins, Sister, Cora Hoskins.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Willie Ruth Hoskins of Summerville, GA; two daughters, Alice and Larry Lee of Port St. Lucie, Fl; Karen Hoskins of West Palm Beach, FL; Son Dewey Dewayne and Bobbet Hoskins of Florence, KY; five grandchildren; seven sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law; two aunts and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Homegoing services will be Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 1 pm at New Bethel Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin Roach and other ministers officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church Friday evening from 7 pm til 8 pm with Masonic Rites.

Interment will be in the Summerville Cemetary.  Arrangements are by Willis Funeral Home, Inc, Dalton.

MRS. FAYE WAITS OZMENT, age 76, of Rockmart, formerly of Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011, in Rockmart, Georgia following an extended illness. A native Chattooga Countian, She was born on May 16, 1936 to the late Stanley and Effie Coker Waits. Mrs. Ozment was retired from the Sample Department of Mohawk Industries and a member of Four Mile Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by husband, the late Billy Joe Ozment on January 4, 2003, a son, the late Terry Ozment on January 21, 2005, and a sister the late Carol Baker. Surviving are son-Joel Ozment of Rockmart; sisters-Eddie Tinney of Rome, Ruth Howell of Summerville, and Edith McGraw of Cedartown; brother-Dudley Waits of Rockmart; Five Grandchildren, Seven Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 13th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Smith officiating, interment in Greenhills Memory Garden. MR. ERNEST LEE JACKSON, age 80, of Harrisburg Road (Teloga Community) Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday , October 8, 2011, evening at his residence. He was born in Chattooga County, Georgia on February 27, 1931, a son of the late Rufus and Velma Simmons Jackson. Mr. Jackson was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 21 years serving during Korea and Viet Nam and retired from Roper Corporation after 21 plus years of service. He was a member of the Beersheba Presbyterian Church, and was preceded in death by his wife the late Joyce Elaine Jackson on July 1, 2011. Surviving are daughters & sons-in law-Christy and Danny Blackwell and Elaine & Richard Stowe all of Summerville; son & daughter-in-law-Jerry & Sue Jackson of Lander, Wy.; grandchildren-Justin Stowe, Morgan Stowe, and Adam Blackwell; great grandchildren-Jaxon Stowe, Claire Stowe, Peyton Stanton, and Blayke Stanton; sister-Maybell Broyles of Summerville; brother-Gene Jackson of Rossville; several Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins also survive.. Mr. Kenneth Carter Payne obit (M)

Mr. Payne was born June 23, 1931 in Sylvania, AL, the son of the late Herbert Clayton Payne, SR and Viveen Warren Payne. He was a member of the Harrell Street Church of God of the Union Assembly. Mr. Payne was retired from Caron Yarn. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force . Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Myra Payne Tanner; and 4 brothers, Cledith Payne, Oscar Payne, Melford Payne, and Herb Payne.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lula Mae Payne; children, Felicia Rena Payne, Buford Wayne Payne, Kenneth Carter Payne, II, Herbert Clayton Payne, III.; sisters, Johnnie Lewis, Gwendelyn Thompson, and Virgie Buffington; 18 Grandchildren; and 12 Great Grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Sunday, October 9, 2011 at Harrell Street Church of God of the Union Assembly. Rev. Houston Eaton and Rev. Denny Smith will officiate.

The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday, October 9, 2011 from 2:00 p. m. until the service hour.

 

Mr. Tom McCollum Obit (M)

Mr. Thomas C. (Tom) McCollum, age 87, of Augusta, died Thursday October 6, 2011. Mr. McCollum was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon. He was a custom architectural mill worker, using his trade in the mission field to build pulpit furniture for many churches across the country and in many parts of the world. He served in the United States Army during WWII and received a Purple Heart.

Survivors include his wife of more than 64 years, Ruth B. McCollum, daughter, Elizabeth “Betsy” Newman, of Chattanooga, TN, brother,& sister-in-law, Gordon D. & Jennie McCollum Summerville, GA, nephew & wife Jimmy & Lillian McCollum, of Augusta, niece, Judy Love of Summerville, GA. great nephews, Ian McCollum, Aaron McCollum, Wes Love.

Graveside service will be held 3;00 p.m. Monday October 10, 2011 from the West Hill Cemetery, with Dr. L. Gordon Robinson officiating. Interment in the West Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 2;00 p.m. until the service hour at the Mason Funeral Home. At other hours the family will be at the residence of the niece Judy Love, 384 Ballinger Road Summerville, GA, in the Gore Community.

Mrs. Geraldine E. Rowe, age 100, of Trion, GA, formerly of Lewistown, PA, passed away Monday Oct 3, 2011, in Redmond Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Rowe was born Sept. 17, 1911, in Wagner, Decatur Township, PA, the daughter of John L. Ernest, and Eva D. (Snyder) Ernest Ream. She was employed as a secretary for Pennsylvania Department of Health in Lewistown, for 11 years, retiring in 1978. Geraldine was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Lewistown where she was a member of the Loyal Daughter’s Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Ladies of the Eastern Star in Lewistown and the Lewistown Mother’s Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward P. Rowe who died in 1959, daughter, Janice K. Blessing and 2 brothers.
Survivors include her sons, Leon E. Rowe and wife Mary Louise of Palermo, Maine,
Timothy E. Rowe and wife, Darlene, of Trion, GA, 3 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, a brother, Jay Ream and his wife, Peg, of Lewistown, PA.
Funeral service will be held 11;00 a.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2011 at the Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 North Main St. Lewistown, PA, with Reev Karen McCachren officiating with interment in the Mt. Rock Cemetery.

A native Chattooga Countian She was born to the late Daniel J. and Katie Floyd Grimes on May 26, 1940. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church and was preceded in death by husband, the late Guy Earl Kellett, Sr. in August, 1991 and siblings Janet Shull, Billy Grimes, and Randy Grimes. Surviving are daughters-Beth Kellett of Rome, Tina Sitton of Rome, Sandra Wilson of Summerville, and Mary Ann McDonald of Alabama; son-Dr. Earl Kellett, Jr. of Rome; sister-Roxie Jones of Ft. Oglethorpe; brother-Phillip Grimes of Virginia; Nine Grandchildren, Nines Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Mrs. Madora Medeline White of White Road, Lyerly, Ga. passed away Friday, September 30, 2011 at her residence. She was born December 10, 1923 in Chattooga County Georgia daughter of the late W.O. & Emma Carroll Allmon. She was retired from the Needling Department of Georgia Rug Mill and was a member of New Hope South Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maxwell White and a number of brothers & sisters.

Survivors include daughter & son-in law, Nancy & Dave Johnston, Lyerly; son & daughter-in-law Richard & Frances White, Lyerly; sister-in-law Frances White Lyerly; 5 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren. several nieces & nephews survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, October 2, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. from New Hope South Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny Roach officiating. Burial in the Church Cemetery.
